"Orcs Must Die!" Catch-All

Got to play this yesterday thanks to a gift from Strangleblades/LocknLoad - easily the most I've had with a tower defence game in quite a while. Love the sense of humour, and setting up a meat grinder with traps never gets old. Apparently I need to go back with upgraded traps in order to get a high score, but I don't quite understand how to get more points anyway.

Defend the void thingie and avoid taking damage. Every time I've done that I've gotten 5 skulls.

He's talking about the high point scores you get from combos (multiple traps + hero weapons hitting the same enemies) and kill streaks (lots of kills in a row without stopping). As noted earlier in this thread, protecting the void and going for points are at times contradictory, so getting 5 skulls and a lot of points don't often happen together.

Finally loaded this after buying on the Thanksgiving sale. Are you telling me this game does not allow me to change key binds away from WASD? Really?

I wish I'd have known this before hand, I might not have bought it. Guess I'll use my 360 controller.

Grumble.

Yeah that was a grumble for me too. I have to admit I completely forget about it most the time though because the game is just that good.

Well, I love it but I'm just failing on Chaos Chamber (Warmage) for some reason. I think I'll 5-skull it soon, but it's really baffling me, especially the last waves with the Ogre/Gnoll Hunter combo.

Anyway, I'm experiencing a bug (I think) where my current weapon will change without me doing anything. i'll be in combat and my bladestaff will change to a trap, or when I'm hurriedly setting traps it will turn to the crossbow. Anyone else have this happen on the PC?

Thanks!

I had bought OMD during Steam's autumn sale, but didn't get around to trying it out until now. What a terrific game. I'm going to pick up a few more copies and gift them to some friends, I guess - I feel almost ashamed for having paid only 4 bucks for this.

According to Steam, I have 27 friends who own/play OMD. Plenty of them in the friends leaderboards in the standard campaign. Four made it to finish Finale. (So did I.) However, there isn't a single person in the DLC campaign's leaderboards - not even the first level. Makes me wonder if I wasn't the only one too dumb to figure out how to access the DLC content. I totally ignored some of the UI cues of this game. Hell, I even completed the standard campaign while still wondering what these 'weavers' are supposed to be that I had been granted. It wasn't until one of my 5-skull runs that I noticed that little text that asked me to push the 'V' key.

@Natus: Did you already made some progress past that level in the campaign, thus being able to access stuff like the mace and barricades?

I'm not sure I know how to access the DLC levels, now that you mention it...

Yeah I thought DLC was just items.

When you get to the level selection screen there are arrows at the top that allow you to change the campaign.

It's a Change Campaign button. I always assumed that was just talking about the difficulty level. Wow.

This was punishment for failing to friend me up on Steam.

I'm on there. Throw me a friend req.

I haven't used them but there are ways to change the keys...

Having a lot of fun but now I am trying to maximize scores, unfortunatelly the way it works makes you force to play in a certain way. Basically creating a chokepoint of multiple types of traps to increase the combo, too many metagame conditions that take a lot of the fun... Also the first places in the leaderboards seems to be taken by cheaters, I am talking about 100 or 1000 times better score than the rest of the players.

Going for a high score has nothing at all to do with getting 5 skulls. Its about maximizing score combos, which is a TOTALLY different game. The point ceiling for a perfect 5 skull playthrough is very low compared to most high scores. So its not really cheating, they are just working really hard to get hundreds of times more points-per-ork than you are.

Actually, some of the first places are most definitely cheaters. I don't care how many combos you have, a billion points just isn't mathematically possible.

Oh I see what you mean now. I haven't played the game in a while and last I checked the scores followed a pretty clear curve. I wonder if they will be doing any trimming on the leaderboards?

Pfff. That's your failure!

So, I got 5 skulls on War Mage on every map now, DLC campaign inclusive. I beat the first four or five maps on Nightmare, but don't really feel tempted to go beyond that. Yes, I've seen videos of people finishing Finale with 5 skulls on Nightmare, but the game is a bit too hectic and twitchy on that difficulty level for me. Maps with several entrances become a real annoyance now that you don't get any kind of breaks.

Why on Earth did it take me this long to pick up Orcs Must Die!? What a spiffin little game. Of course, it was only typical that I bought it at -40% on the last day of the Steam summer sale, only to find it at a -75% discount on the first post-sale weekend. But provided that part of the higher price I paid went into Robot Entertainment's coffers (and not only Valve's), it doesn't matter one bit.

I just picked it up this weekend to find out what all the fuss is about. For $3.24, what is one more game on the pile anyway?

Is there a Steam group for Orcs Must Die 2 yet? I was wondering if anyone would like to play coop. Endless mode is lots of fun!

I'm available for OMD2 Co-op and leaderboard nemesis-ing.

Could I grab an invite to said group?

Also, anyone who wants to friend me up to compare scores in OMD and OMD2, please go ahead! I consistently score badly, so it'll pad the bottom of your scoreboard nicely.

Edit: What typo?

Same here.

Also, I got to wave 40 the other day using a variant on this setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvrn... There's really instructive OMD stuff on Nananea's channel.

I bought a 2 pack of OMD2 for my son and I to play. The campaign works OK but in endless mode we can't make it past the teens due to getting disconnected from each other for some reason (seems to happen when a lot of stuff is on screen) and then the game just drops out. Hope they fix this soon with a patch!

It's a shame that it won't just use our LAN connection... the 2 PCs are sitting on the same switch on my 1GB home LAN. Sign of the times I guess.

I'd also be up for some co-op of OMD!2.

It's such a relief to have something new and fun to play to take me away from my part-time job of Diablo 3 gold farming.

I know this is off-topic, but... what's it like gold farming in Diablo 3? Just wondering since I happened to see this video on how to make money in Diablo. It was on a Orcs Must Die video channel too, of all places.

Alienware is giving away these snazzy Orcs Must Die skins. All you need to do is click "get key" and register on their site. http://www.alienwarearena.com/giveaw...

I was about to call you a filthy skimmer. But actually you're just in the wrong thread.

OMD2 over here.

I don't know why that thread didn't come up when I searched for it a few weeks ago. Derp.
