Smite Catch All

The only reason I know about Smite is because it is developed by Hi-Rez Studios. Hi-Rez recently released Tribes Ascend which is amazing, check it out if you haven't, and they released Global Agenda. Both games I enjoyed and for that reason alone I am anxious to play Smite. Honestly, I don't know too much about Smite. It looks to be a MOBA with a third person camera instead of the typical isometric camera. Here's their link https://account.hirezstudios.com/smi...

Beta is starting soon so sign up.

The action looks interesting, though I'm not a fan of MOBAs. Tribes is certainly well loved on this site, so interesting pedigree.

Is anyone else in the Smite beta? I've had horrible experiences with LoL and DOTA 2 but I'm finding Smite to be much more newbie friendly.

I "pre-ordered" to get access. I've had so much fun with tribes that I figured it was a safe bet.

This is currently my favourite game. Steam me up, I'm awake in the wee hours in the US (I work a 9-5 in Japan).

I signed up for the beta but I didn't get in.

I finally got beta access, enjoying it so far (Even though I'm terrible). Add me: ImNickson

I've got some extra beta keys if anyone is interested.

I'll take it! PM me!

I kind of like this more than the big name mobas right now. The direct "wasd" control and third person perspective make the combat so much more interesting. I feel like Smite is the better option for those of us who don't have the high "apm" style of play that DOTA clones feel like they require sometimes.

I'm sure you already played it, but Super Monday Night Combat does the same. I'm looking forward to see how Smite plays out though.

I've been really into smite lately. If someone wants to queue just add Unholyone in game. I can also send beta keys if you need.

I got a beta key for this from a friend at work. I watched him play for a few minutes the other day and it looked fun, so I'm hoping to fire it up soon.

I need to come back to check this out again since the last time I fired up the beta was last summer.

Seems entirely competent. Not to keen on locked "lords" model though. Immersive perspective though. Is there an over the head views for casting?

I didn't care for this when I first checked it out, but it's come a long way. I'm hooked, but like any moba, playing with randoms sucks. Friend me up in Smite (Harkonis) if you want to play. I'm splitting time with a few games, but would love to stick to this one. I bought the all gods unlock now and forever pack.

Anyone still playing? Came across this yesterday for the first time, seen a preview of the new 'All Random, All Mid' mode which looked like good fun.

I'm generally awful at MOBAs but fancy giving this one a go.

I've just rediscovered it again as well.

My in game name is andondn

I'd like to group up with some fellow GWJ for matches. I find this to be a little more accessible for the less DOTA skilled.

I'm still playing. Harkonis is IGN

This feels like a great mix between a shooter and a moba. No z axis makes it a bit odd, but also simplifies things in a way that doesn't hurt imo.

Myself and 2 other been having a blast with this for the past few days.

New patch and God released today. I'm liking this more and more. Might just spring for the $29.99 full unlock option.

It's a great deal if you enjoy the game

Streaming this on my twitch and putting vids on youtube more often now. send me an invite in game anytime, I'm determined to get to level 30 asap and get that free skin.

Oh, Im on as Videoheadsystem

Oh, Im on as Videoheadsystem

Arise ye thread of the Gods! Doth thoust reborn!

So my buddy suggest we give this a try and we instantly fell in love. So much so that we bought the Ultimate God Pack for $30. Also negates the need to purchase their currency as it states that all future gods come with this.

I don't like competitive games. I barely like online games. I get stressed from it. Somehow, Smite has alleviated that anxiety. The mechancis are fun as hell. Being in 3rd person and aiming your attacks makes me feel more in control of my character's actions. I've found that I am playing classes, and doing well, that I typically wouldn't play. I've had a lot of success with a slow moving Tank character where I usually would be playing as a ranged type. My friend, who is admittedly terrible at games, loves it and does incredibly well.

It does have a problem that most competitve games have, sometimes there is a guy that is just way better than everyone else and the match is over before it began. There doesn't seem to be an effective player ranking system such as the ones used by SC2 or the other MOBAs. Overall, I am 9-8 which I feel is very fair.

There are about 4 modes but I've only played three of them. The main is a standard MOBA set-up but from the 3rd person perspective. Same tropes and concepts.

There is also another version of this that is only the middle lane, all 5 players, random character select, and you can't go back and buy items until you die. I've only played one match of this mode since I am not comfortable with most of the characters. Luckily it was with the character I know the best (and is built to lock down a lane).

My favourite mode is called Arena. It's essentially tower defence without the towers. Minions spawn and try to reach the other side of a big open arena. All players (5 vs 5) start at level 3 and with 2000 gold. Both teams start with 500 points. Each minion that is killed or reaches the end knocks 1 point off the opposing team's counter. Killing a rival God nets your team 5 points. There's a bit of strategy but it usually devolves into a massive team battle with everyone launching their ultimate attacks. These matches are usually only 15 minutes long and even when I've lost, I felt like I did well.

In addition to these modes, there are 3 practice modes against bots. You can do these co-op. Great for testing out a new god and item builds.

Speaking of item builds, leveling skills and purchasing items can be set to automatic. You can customize it before a match or use the default set. Either way it means I spend more time playing that sifting through menus.

The game uses the League of Legends system of weekly free character rotation.

What the game lacks is a good sense of progression. I'm not sure what my character level or God level actually does. You gain "honor", from matches, which can be used to purchase Gods or skins but this moves slowly. A typical match will earn you 30 "honor" and each character level you gain is 500. The cheapest, and usual price, for skins is 9500. Most of the skins are just palette swapping as well. Gods, however, are much cheaper but since I have all of them I have no idea what their prices are. The game needs something akin to DOTA 2's loot system or LoL's character progression idea. Playing the game is great but I wish there was more sense of a reward at the end of matches.

I'm on as Vectortheangel. I hold weird hours ('cause, you know, Japan) but if I'm on send me an invite.

And that was my stream of consciousness pitch for Smite.

I'm following their stream on Twitch once in a while. Looks fun. http://www.twitch.tv/smitegame

I am necro'ing this thread to see if anyone is still active? I recently decided I like this and reached level 9.

The gods cost on average 5500 honor with skins costing upwards of 15500 honor. I've got almost ten levels and only have 5300 honor. So it'll take from level 1 to level 30 to afford one skin.

Kind of silly how slow that progression is. You reach max cap and run out of levels to gain for bonus honor with only enough to buy one gold skin OR 2.5 gods.

Well, if you can get everything just by playing, then you don't have to pay any money.

I am but the internet where I'm at is so poor that I don't want to try. Occasionally just cuts out.

I hate free-to-play as much as you do, but I don't go around posting in threads where people just want to talk about the game...during beta they had a pretty damn good deal, though. $30 and it unlocks all the currrent characters and all future characters. I wish they kept that instead of making it only available before the beta. It's a lot of fun trying out the different gods.

I was into it during beta, then one day I launched Tribes: Ascend (Another Hi Rez game) and no one was playing it. I check the forums, and everyone was complaining that HiRez basically abandoned the game. I'll be weary of HiRez, even though I have liked all their games.
