Boston, MA Area GwJr's

Is anyone busy this weekend? Looks like 40% chance of rain/thunderstorms and mid-eighties for temperature. I want to get some Pandemic in, and try seven player 7 Wonders.

My schedule for this weekend is clear.

My weekend has a 50% chance of clearness.

Going to be busy packing this weekend

Depends on the day and time. My weekend's looking fairly booked, but I'd love to meet some Goodjers in person.

Does anyone know of a good board game shop that provides playspace. The one local to me "Battlegrounds" has space in the store specifically for playing but I don't know what thier policy is for random gatherings. I can find out.

Pandemonium Books & Games (in Central Square, Cambridge) has space in the basement. However, you should check their website to see when they're running events. The space tends to fill up when they host M:tG events.

The New England Comics in Coolidge Corner opened up their basement last year and hosts M:tG events as well. They might provide general play space too, but it seems less likely than Pandemonium.

This weekend is Gameday for MtG, so most stores will probably be packed.

You should absolutely check with them, but I don't think Derrick would have a problem with a GWJ slap and tickle.

I don't know about the Abington location, but the Plainville Battlegrounds is overly friendly towards these sort of gatherings (with maybe the exception of when there's a Magic tournament, but it doesn't look like there's one there this coming Saturday).

Maybe we should just rain check 'til next weekend to avoid magic.

I enjoy that sentence out of context.

Or find a not- game shop to congregate. What exactly are our potential numbers? I've seen board gamers in the Panera near Coolidge Corner. I'm sure we could do something similar. Or do something crazy like play....dun dun dun....outside on the esplanade or something.

I'm down for Battleground Plainville

So this is a sort of shameless selfish bump that isn't about arranging any playdates. However, I would much rather ask the local Goodjer community than trust Yelp on this...

Can anyone give a recommendation (or two) for moving companies in either the Boston or MetroWest areas? Tomorrow, Demyx and I are signing a lease on our new apartment so we need to start planning the logistics and neither of us have vehicles that are equipped to move furniture.

I used Boston and Beyond Moving twice, was the same guys both times but I rented the truck. I found them on emove.com and they were pretty good.

Both of these would totally work for me. Coolidge is my neighborhood, and I've played Race for the Galaxy there with my wife before. I'll also be out on the Charles Saturday, and could probably meet up on the Esplenade afterwards, although I'll stink really badly of river water and sweat.

What 'hood will you be in? You moving in from out of town and want a tour or such?

Just moving up the street, but Demyx is moving in, so no tour necessary

We tried Precision Movers but they were booked solid and suggested we use Gentle Giant so we're going with them.

I'll be very busy Saturday with the two soccer games at Gillette so I am out.

I was thinking that Saturday mornings would be cool. There is a big Panera in Plainville off of Rt 1 that I know hosts a book club once a month so I am guessing a game club wouldn't be too outrageous.

I was thinking Sundays but I'll be starting out door soccer soon so that wouldn't work for me.

The idea of having my morning coffee while engaged in some card/board games feels very appealing.

EDIT: Just noticed that the Panera in Needham on Highland Ave advertises that they have a Community Room. You need to reserve it but thats cool.

I'm going yard-sale hunting for retro games on Saturday, but Sunday is wide open.

Took the liberty of calling around today. Battleground in Plainville will be free tomorrow. New England Comics in Brookline will have a Magic draft but it probably won't be more than 10 people (maybe less seeing as it's gameday). Battleground in Abington and New England Comics in Brookline are both open on Sunday. All of these places would welcome us.

I'm down for some time in Brookline.

So, talk about LTTP, but I will randomly be at the Pinball Arcade in Pelham, NH with my family for 4 hours tomorrow, from abotu 12-4. We have BBQ after that. I can't promise I'll be great company other than playing games, but I will promise to buy people lots of games on classic, well maintained pinball machines.

Does 1 at New England Comics in Coolidge work for people?

I'm in the Coolidge Corner area...not sure if I can make it at 1 though. No idea what my day is going to look like tomorrow. Probably going to be doing something with my daughter, but if I can, I'll pop in and put faces to names!

Will unfortunately have to pass. I've got morning/early afternoon plans for tomorrow. Next time!

Are we still on? My block lost power last week. If we're still on, I'll be there. With my Atomic Shirt. Otherwise, I'll see about setting something in Pandemonium next sunday.

Sounds good to me. I will bring 2 starter packs of Dungeon Command, Lords of Waterdeep, 7 Wonders, Smallworld and Castle Panic.

Turns out that I can go, so I'll be there. I'll probably bring Race for the Galaxy along.

That's right by that Trader Joes. Awesome snack foods time go!

Also worth noting that that particular Trader Joe's is one of the only ones in the state that sells alcohol. They have a decent selection of reasonably-priced beers. Too bad you probably can't have them while gaming.

I miss living around there sometimes.
