Drox Operative Catch-All

I'll be in my bunk.

win conditions that might be in the next Drox Operative build: Military, Diplomatic, Economic, Fear, and Legend

New patch with a bunch of fun stuff!

I think that the recent changes that they’ve made have really improved the game. One of those is adding an additional two slots to every ship, a crew slot which takes a crew member of only your race, and an equipment slot that takes only your race’s signature equipment. I am the Drakk, and it turns out that their signature equipment is fighters, which is lucky because I have been using them for some time.

All in all this accomplishes two things, first of all it adds a little bit more of customizability and hence skill choices, which I have mentioned I thought was a little lacking. It also serves as a way to make your race choice more important, and I don’t think that that was previously the case. Your race choice had stat changes that were reasonably important when you first started, but once you get a bit of a chance to make your own choices it’s completely unimportant, as your race doesn’t affect the cost of increasing certain stats on an ongoing basis. The only affect it may have had is that I have noticed that every time I upgrade my ship size I also gain a bit of helm, perhaps that is because helm is supposed to be more important to the Drakk (I can’t remember) or perhaps it is just to offset the increased mass a bit and all races get this bonus.

I’m not sure how much crew skills are based on their races, but I am guessing that there is at least some amount of relation, more importantly, however, that extra slot for racial equipment is very important, especially if you are not planning on heavily investing in the ”Command Skill” you’ll really want to make sure that your race is going to give you an equipment type that you will be comfortable with.

Version 0.911 is now available. It doesn't sound like I can post a link yet, but the patches and changes are in the usual place.

0.913 is out.

Haven't played in a while, but a lot of these recent changes sound great.

So the game is now up to 0.925. I hadn't played it for a while, since 0.913, so I fired it up last night to see what had changed, and realized why I had taken a break: This game will eat up all of my gaming time if I let it.

Seriously, the changes are massive. It looks better, plays cleaner and just feels more intuitive. The explanation of bonuses on the race screen really helped when creating my new character, and the universe just feels now more cutthroat in fun ways (I loved how the two races I'd been in contact with both asked me to help then colonize the same planet, and sent me messages about how only weaklings are friends with the other race, etc). It just feels so much fuller and more fleshed out than before.

So if y'all haven't played in a while, patch it up and give it a whirl.

Well THIS sounds fantastic as all hell:

The next build of Drox Operative will have Bounty Hunters that can hunt down Operatives.

WANT NAO PLZ.

You're in luck. 0.929 is out.

Edit: I love how thorough Soldak's notes are, but I wish he would group similar fixes and features together. Bounty hunters is a major feature and it's just listed two thirds of the way down the list, after a ton of boring notes about fixing spelling mistakes. It's easy to miss if you're not looking for it.

The tradeoff is that he mentions the big things in his Twitter and FB posting, I suppose.

Demo will be out this week for all those who SHOULD experience it. Might slip to next week, but he's working on it.

Squee!

Maybe one of these days I'll try to sort them by impact/interest. Right now they are just in the order I completed them in.

Hi there! Welcome to GWJ. Love Din's Curse but terrified of Depth of Peril. I will try it one of these days. I'm eager to see where Drox Operative goes in the coming weeks.

Hey Steven, it's Brian Rubin! Welcome dude!!!

How many does the co-op multiplayer support?

There isn't a set limit. It's basically whatever the cpu and bandwidth of the person's computer that is hosting the server can handle.

Well I like the sound of that! Thxs for the reply.

Version 0.932 is out: patches and changes. This patch adds ceasefires, revamps some of the components like missile defense and ballistics, and fixes a bunch of minor issues.

Steven, I'm always amazed at the speed you're able to work.

Is the .932 number indicative of the game's proximity to completion?

I don't know if the number has anything to do with it, but how about if the game is released next week?

You heard it here first! ... Maybe. You didn't tell anyone else yet, right? We're special in some way, Mr. Hornback, right?

Wait. What?

Pretty sure he said the game is coming out next week. Couldn't tell if he was joking or not, but he's the other half of Soldak.

That soon? SERIOUSLY?! AAAHHH Hornback, you best not be messin' with us.

Well, Brian will probably discover some big, hard to fix bug in the next few days which will delay us until February.

Guuhhhhhhh
