Who thought Reddit couldn't get Worse

I don't think what you're talking about depicts transgressions against their rights as "normal behavior." You talked earlier about contextualizing the act, and the context isn't just within the work itself. The context goes beyond the work, and the context is pornography. To use the example you described earlier, if anyone thinks "[insert skin colour here] b*tch getting what she deserves" is meant to be taken seriously, they had problems loooooong before they saw that porno.

Of course they had problems long before they saw that porno. This particular porn video title is a symptom of something that probably is not good, and it also carries the germ of said probably-not-good-thing. It doesn't necessarily 'infect' anyone or spread evil in some malicious way; it's not a question of cause and effect. It's a question of what culture is and how it's formed. One ugly video is irrelevant. But IMO, thousands of ugly videos, songs, et cetera constitute evidence of a subculture (which, again, is not the product of said ugly media but is something of which the ugly media are both symptoms and germs). B-words getting what they deserve is a meme that appears in many forms all over the place.

You think teasing womem with images of ripped, handsome guys who will never want to have sex with them isn't harmful? What about setting unreal expectations for women that all men should be cut like stonework? Also, do they cuddle afterward in your porn? I honestly don't know. But we wouldn't want them getting that expectation either!

It sounds to me that you're not really criticizing pornography, but sexist and misogynist pornography. I can get behind that. I'm against misogynist movies and songs, too, FWIW. Of course, I wouldn't say that part of the problem with rape is movies and songs (implying that we just shouldn't make and patronize those).

How long would I have to watch MTV before seeing a music video that's horribly misogynist and objectifies women? Jokes about MTV not showing actual music videos aside, there is some horrible "music" out there, and I certainly think they do contribute to a rape culture.

My porn is basically someone washing a dildo whilst set to the never-ceasing Magic roundabout theme tune....

Well one, I'd say we're pretty far away from the original point of "guys being raised on this filth and not thinking of women as ladies or anything other than some conduit of pleasure." We're at the point I was talking about earlier, where horror movies in which the Final Girl is a virgin and the 'bad girls' get killed are in the same boat.

Two, just because something is ugly doesn't mean it's not good. When it comes to sexuality, it's not going to be all sunshine and roses. Sometimes it's a dragon humping a car.

But the people who made this, and especially those who post it on video game forums are just sick

Ha, yes, in our particular instance, that was quite an experience!

You know what I think contributes to rape culture? Pornography.

Ehh, I know of people who have raped or tried to rape some women I knew, and they never even owned a TV, let alone watch porn. I'm talking about some native indians living on a reservation with no technology here in Mexico, that kind of isolation. Where did they learn this "Rape Culture"?

Men are just horny creatures, and if left enough time alone with a woman, they'll try to stick their penis in them. Just my opinion.

Some porn might contribute to "rape culture" but unless you're really obsessed and already have problems, it's probably the opposite, because how many dudes have just stayed home and jerked off instead of going out and grabbing a girl's ass against her will.

edit: I guess "Porn contributes to rape" is my equivalent of "Videogames make you violent". Just... no. Maybe for some people who already had problems.

Women who watch gay porn and expect it to influence their real sex lives are fooling themselves to begin with. Hell, GAY MEN who watch gay porn and expect it to match their actual sex lives are deluded. As Dan Savage calls it, it's "kabuki sex."

Then what's kabuki sex? Because you know it's out there...

From what I'm to understand, the actors in gay porn are often just that--actors. A lot of them are straight in their personal lives.

Even RNG?

General question about porn to all those who consume it.

How much does you taste in porn reflect your actual taste in sex?

The reason I ask is that it's my assertion that porn is not aspirational. If anything, it can be the opposite, an arena in which one can explore things that they'd be uncomfortable with in person. It's fantasy, and as such, I posit that someone who might have a penchant for misogynistic porn might actually have nary a misogynist's bone in their body.

And in some bad analogy theater, in claiming that misogynist porn causes misogynists, you may as well claim that a straight man watching gay porn would end up gay.

NSMike, why did you watch all that gay porn??

I've heard from a number of female friends similar things about even though Fifty Shades of Grey is "hot" they would never try the hardcore bondage and submission stuff that constitutes 90% of the book. I think there's truth in your assertion, Jonman.

The implications here are staggering. If this were actually effective...

It would present a major problem for Christian ex-gay therapy that the most effective means of curing homosexuality would be exposure to massive amounts of straight porn.

It would be a major coup for teenage boys everywhere. "Mom, I think I'm gay, quick, buy me copious amounts of porn!"

Wait wait, what if I watch a lot of lesbian porn?

You might be a lesbian....

If porn had that kind of effect on people, think how many pizza deliverymen, cable repair guys and idle housewives there would be in the world!

That would be a new spin on a service-based economy.

Late to this thread and not reading it all at work and it may have already been said and maybe I just don't know how Reddit works but to me, an up vote simply means something is worth of attention. It's not a "Like" (in the Facebook sense). Thanks for posting. As the father of 3 daughters, it was an interesting read and I now feel slightly better informed about things to warn my them about when the time is appropriate.
