Deadlight

Anyone else intrigued by what little they have released about this game? It appears to be a side-scrolling, survival horror, puzzle platformer coming out for XBLA later this year. Here is the YouTube Teaser:

And here is the official website where you can see nothing but the trailer from above for the time being.

Hadn't heard of it, but thanks for sharing.

One thing is for sure, tequila most certainly works.

"Good sh*t, huh? It's good for two things: degreasing engines and killing brain cells."

You sure you're not talking about Dr. Pepper?

You know, I've always wanted to play a game with zombies in it.

Kind of a crappy trailer. I hate that gravely trailer-guy voice, and it doesn't do a great job of telling you what the game is about, except that there is a ninja hobo, who probably killed someone at some point, and at least that one patch of highway is kind of messed up.

Honestly though, "2.5D puzzle platformer with a ninja hobo" is enough to get me interested.

You had me at ninja hobo.

gameplay trailer:

Real excited for this one.

It's got a neat style, kind of Limbo meets Shadow Complex, but I'm not big on zombies and if the trial version doesn't blow me away in terms of controls I'll be saving my $15 for Dust: An Elysion Tale.

I'm intrigued.

Well, it certainly looks cool; some of those environments looks downright tasty. If the game-play quality can match the aesthetics, I'm sold.

The one thing that I'm not necessarily jazzed about is the whole meta-experience thing. I took a look at the developer site, and while I appreciate effort being put into the back-story and surrounding "lore" of a game, some of it here just feels silly. "Randall's Memories", in the form of scraggly, ham-fisted, emotional, almost juvenile naval-gazing and overly provocative illustrations of foxes bearing fangs and mutilated corpses, just feels like it's taking itself way too seriously.

But that's just me. I know I can play the game and not give two zombie sh*ts about any of that, but I feel like Female Doggoing about it anyway.

I am a little worried about the controls hearing that it controls similar to the 2D Prince of Persia, but still looking forward to trying it out.

Some not-entirely-favourable reviews. Oddly, venturebeat calls it "inexpensive" while eurogamer calls it out for its "bloated price tag." Are the prices different between Europe and North America? Or maybe the Euro economy is just more in the toilet?

While first-time developer TequilaWorks took some missteps with the experience, the fact that this game is as good as it is while remaining available as an inexpensive download speaks volumes.

Deadlight is an incredibly slight experience. A single play-through comes in at under two hours, and that running time's been bloated by an uncomfortable number of trial-and-error moments.
...
there's not enough meat to come back to, making this a one-shot affair with a bloated price tag that doesn't quite fit.

Yea I noticed earlier that the reviews are kind of all over the place. The high end are pretty high (90's) and the low end are pretty low (a 40) but most seem to be middling (70's). I will wait and pass judgement for myself.

My guess is it's more about the individual reviewer, and whether or not 2 hours is worth $15, especially if they felt it was padded.

I'm a bit skeptical of the game actually being only 2 hours. I've seen a lot of Eurogamer reviews where things like that were exaggerated.

I suppose that's the downside of being awesome at games.

Yea I never listen to time estimates because I am one of those "I wonder if I can get up there?" type of gamers who is searching every corner and doubling back whenever I get some new item that might let me access a new area.

So it's probably more like 1 hour?

4 would be my guess.

At the end of the video there is a screen that shows overall completion of 28% and total playing time of 38 minutes. Considering that about 10 minutes of the quick look involved Brad replaying part of the game he had already done, that results in him being approximately 1/4th done after half an hour. Doing the math puts the total time needed to finish the game at around 2 hours.

This game looks great, but 2 hours for $15? Give me a break! Then again, it isn't coming out for the PC, so it hardly matters to me.

I'd like to play that for the style alone, so hopefully they bring it to PC later on.

This would've been an instant purchase, thank goodness for reviews. Let's see what the community and audio commentaries say in a few days.

Agreed. Then I'll wait for the inevitable Steam sale where it's $5. Then the 2 hours of gameplay would be worth the price.

Yeah, I was keen to get this but 2 hours is too short.

Anyone grabbed this? Reports from E3 indicated that controls were a bit wonky. The most common descriptor seemed to be "needs a fair amount of polish, but could be fun."

I liked the demo, no complaints on the controls. The voice acting and writing is effing terrible, though there are some interesting ideas in play.

Liked it enough to spend the $15? Or saving it for Dust: An Elysian Tale?
