Driver San Francisco Catch-All

I'm using my xbox controller but on Windows 7, sorry. In other news, with the game working it is pretty damn fun!

Yaaaaaay!!!

So favorite cars? So far mine is the GTR but I haven't unlocked half of them yet including the diablo. Are there porsche's? I need to find a list somewhere...

Something else I found out about the performance issues of this game. If you've tinkered with the vsync setting, you may notice that when you turn it off, it will turn itself back on, leading to severe framerate drops during missions. If you use the Nvidia or ATI control panels and set the 3d settings for specific games to force vsync off for D:SF, it will stay off and make a big improvement.

Aside from all the d*cking with it, I'm really enjoying the game.

Anything with a passenger in it.

This game is seriously fun.

Yaaaayyy!! It totally is, so much so.

Okay, the saga continues. I fired up the game after work today. And lo and behold, slideshow again despite forcing the settings in my Nvidia console. So, I tried the other trick I discovered through extended research (read: I googled it). Open the graphics.ini file (user/documents/ubisoft/driver san francisco), set vsync = 0, save and set the file to read only. So far so good.

And yes, lots of fun. The fact that I'm willing to continue to futz with it is proof of how much I like it.

Clearly a lot of thought went into making the player's experience positive. The visuals are great, the music fits into the game rather than being just a bunch of random "popular" songs, and best of all there is a fair amount of variety and challenge without punishing the player harshly for failure (which is good for me because I suck).

I'm having a blast with the game as well (now that I shifted to where I could use a controller.) The soundtrack is an unexpected bonus and through the magic of Spotify, I've been enjoying a playlist someone made from the songs all afternoon.

You did block the game from the internet, right?

Yep, that was my first whack at improving performance. I guess I chronicled that in the Steam sale thread. It helped, but whenever vsync turned itself back on, back to <20 fps.

Thanks though.

I picked this up during the steam sale and finally got around to trying it. I suck at driving games, but possessing drivers is fun enough to offset my frustration. Also, I friggin' love the soundtrack.

Yaaay! Yeah, I'm not the best at driving games either, despite my love for them, but this game merges the shift into the gameplay so well I barely mind that I suck. It's not great during pure races though, but those thankfully aren't too common.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the races. I did have fun possessing a bus and crashing it into one of the other racers, but it seems like your own car doesn't race very well when you shift out of it.

Yeah, the AI isn't as good as you are, but if you CAN smash into the other racers, it's a lot more fun. Some events I've been in are pure races, no shifting. Those I'm not a fan of.

I was in one interesting race recently where it was 3 laps, and every lap you got put into a different car for the same course. It was fun and creative, I thought.

I'm only an hour or so in, but so far there has been some pretty decent mission variety. I liked the one where you had to scare the driving instructor.

OMG that's one of my faves. There's also one I saw a YT video for where you kind of are a driving instructor, and it looks hilarious as well.

Here we go:

I really like the races where you control two cars and have to place first and second. Interesting strategies unfold when you have to manage two cars and you can shift to other "blocker" cars.

So I'm stuck on what I think might be near the end of the plot on a race involving 4 cars and a 5:00 time limit:

Spoiler:

The rescue 4 auction house cars mission. Obviously three aren't a problem, it's the one with an escape aspect that gets me every time. I've tried it at least a dozen times over the last week and I'm usually short by 2-20 seconds. I was literally behind the final semi about to pull in once when I ran out of time. I've tried just racing (in oncoming traffic of course) to lose the attackers and I've tried wrecking them but they seem stronger than normal and even a direct headon crash with a large truck doesn't take them out in one go. Anyone got any tips?

Ibdoomed, I've been stuck on that one a while my own self, so yeah, tips would be welcome here as well.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRKzU...

I swear the game says you have to lose them but he simply drives into the truck.

Helpful, yeah.

I just did it with over a minute to spare so yeah, that was the trick... sigh, dunno why I didn't realize that before.

I did the same thing the first several times I played that mission. I thought I had to lose them first, as that's the way it usually works. I thought that was probably the hardest mission in the game, at least in terms of missions you have to do.

I finished the plot last night and while very predictable, I still enjoyed it.

I only own like half the cars though so I'll keep poking at it.

It's funny when you're driving the ruf ctr3 and the game tells you to get a better car...

Aawww, now I gotta finish it too. I hope I can get past that one mission we talked about. I'll have to try driving straight to the truck.

I really enjoy all the random conversations with passengers, like the time I shifted into some woman's elderly mother, or the time I went off a jump and the passenger started freaking out and apologizing for sleeping with the driver's sister. Also, the mission where you have to take a guy to the hospital because he's suffering from a hallucinogenic spider bite was pretty hilarious.

Yeah, passenger conversations are my favorite part of the game. I'll bunny hop from car to car until I find one with a passenger, and then just have a wonderful time.
