Sleeping Dogs (Formerly Known As "True Crime: Hong Kong") Catch All

Is this on anyone's radar? Amazon have it up for pre-order, supposedly coming out August 14th. The live-action trailer looks fun, but is obviously not indicative of gameplay. On the other hand, the story trailer looks quite good. I doubt very much I'll be pre-ordering this, given that I've already got Max Payne 3 on pre-order, and the only other games I intend to buy full price this year are Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3, but if it gets a good buzz I might reconsider.

Everything I'd heard about the game up until its quasi-cancellation was quite interesting so it's nice to hear it's not dead yet.

I doubt I'll play it, and wouldn't be surprised if, after its long journey, it underdelivers like the previous TC games. But if nothing else, I love the new title. Video games desperately need more creative, evocative titles, and Sleeping Dogs has that in the can.

That's a few Canadian games! My national economy (and city's, especially if you also get SD) thank you.

I like that they're referencing movies like the Triad Election films and whatnot. Very cool. Hope this turns out well as I'm interested.

Still no true PC specs so I probably won't pre-order. I prefer to play open world games on my laptop so I'm not tying up the TV for long stretches of meandering through a city.

I'm hoping this will hit a sweet spot between GTA's intense story telling and the high action of SR3. Less absurd, of course. Although John Wooing through the air in slow-mo, guns a-blazin' is absurd in its own way.

It's come on my radar of late, but I'll need to see reviews and word of mouth first. Two other absolute buys are coming out the same day (Darksiders 2 and The Last Story) so I might let this one sit (sleep? lawl) until a fat November sale. Also, Emma Stone is adorable.

Yeah, no day 1 for me (mostly because of money), but if this ends up being a more flushed out Yakuza game in terms of the fighting and it being an actual open world (which it is) then I'm game even if it's kinda janky.

Some overseas mags, and EGM, have it somewhere around the low 80s out of 100. Not sure if there's any text to read yet.

Saw a trailer for this in Sunday's Breaking Bad and I was not impressed. Just a trailer, but didn't look great from what they presented to me.

Looks fine now that they've finally shown some extended gameplay.

Too many games I'm already committed to this summer, but I definitely see myself picking it up in a sale in the near future.

I will definitely be picking this up and doing a video review for it. It's not too often you get games that take place where you live and work, so I am very fascinated to see what it's like.

Sleeping Dogs, Watch Dogs... 2013, Year of the Dogs?

Sleeping Dogs comes out in two weeks :3

I won't be playing it until 2013.

I was prepared to completely ignore this one but the more I see, the more intrigued I become. Doesn't look like it's going to set the world on fire technology wise but I like the fact that it's a gritty story set in what looks like a "Hong Kong action film" sort of idea. I'll probably wait for some reviews and opinion too (a demo wouldn't hurt either) but if the buzz is good, I'll probably grab this on PC if the port quality is solid. Always like supporting Canadian developers.

Yeah, all I want to know is if the port is done well enough to snag it for PC.

It's looking very good. Gametrailers preview.

I'm re-watching Election and Triad Election to get me in the mood.

Some more gameplay.

The more I see the more I want to pre-order. Dammit, my pile is already huge - especially after the Steam sale. The last thing I need is a big open-world game adding to it. And yet... it's so tempting!

Why the hell does the bad guy sound Mexican?

Aaaaand now a Giant Bomb Quick Look.

Hmm...that kind of turned me off.

The streets look practically empty and I noticed major pop-in, like whole city blocks just appearing in front of you (15:55).

The melee combat looks fun.

The driving looks borderline unplayable.

Everything else looks mediocre.

If it's ever on sale for like $10... sure.

Yes, let's hope that's a preview build issue.

Yeah, still interested but I think I'll wring a few dozen more hours out of Saint's Row first.

Huh, HD texture pack for PC on day 1. Cool.

I really hope I make enough time to play this around the New Year, after the Steam sale. Besides Dishonored and Darksiders 2, not a lot of open-world games to be had this year.

I'd been led to believe Dishonored isn't open-world at all, but featuring nonlinear missions. No interest in Assassin's Creed?

I know, but it's open-world in the way I care about, exploring and finding all the ways in which systems operate.
