DDO Orien server catch all - Static Group nights Tuesday and Thursday 8PM EST

So it sounds like casting the proficiency spell and using the nice ember great axe you get from the intro quest will do for a while.

Do sneak attacks not work on glancing blows (I'm guessing not after your post)? I was thinking a combo of fascinate a few enemies and then the wide swing of the axe would multi-hit with glancing blows which would then add sneak attack damage.

They do not work on glancing blows. They do work with cleave, great cleave and whirlwind attack.

OMG Dreamspitter looks amazing! Sadly it requires completing:
The Crucible
Madstone Crater
The Prison of the Planes
The Reaver's Fate

I actually tried out The Crucible solo with a Hirling, and died at the very last battle against the boss. Granted it was my 1st time through and I had no idea what to expect so technically I did pretty well. Hmmm... let me know if anyone is interested in running these quests

PS. Arovin, thanks for the advice on Bard Virtuso. I respecced last night and tried it out. I'm still unsure if I prefer it to Spellsinger, needs more testing. I lost about 280SP, but now I can sing my songs 25 times and they regenerate every 5 mins. I do miss the SP regen song, but the healing + instant dance spell is awesome too, also I can entrall undead now. Woot!

What level are the quests?

I will likely be on later tonight, like 10 EST or so, taking the kids to see Avengers again. If there are any main-group stragglers, I am still up for some Eberron questing.

All are level 14

I blame my phone for not clicking on the links and checking

I don't think many of us'll be much help with those, for now. I am toying with the idea of getting a FvS to 8 and seeing if I can get one of those 8 > 16 experience stones that I see offered in chat, though. Are those going to dry up shortly?

Before Aug 20th I think, the next patch. I have a stone I can use on you when you get there.

Oh, that'd be awesome! I um, need to plan out my character now. I've been looking through things to see if I can make a FvS that can handle a bow well enough to solo stuff pretty well with a fighter hireling, while not losing major healing ability.

Zen archery with a ranger dilettante feat for bow proficiency and strength modifier to bow damage?

Speaking of which, man I need help. I like a lot of the class combinations I am playing but I am always second guessing myself. The class I know I will love is a straight up druid with monk dilettante. But I can wait for a sale for that (reasons already stated enough times for that, I am not going to troll)

The grass seems to always be greener no matter which build I make =(

Sorry I missed this evening. Real life called. I'll be on Tuesday though.

Sorry about bailing last night. My 2-year-old was being a handful, and I thought my wife would appreciate my being able to devote more attention to toddler wrangling. Having 7 people made it an easy decision. I hope you guys didn't suffer too badly without a cleric.

Thanks for making room for me! Choosing the kid over a quest is the right call, anyway. Turns out what we really needed was a Rogue with a Spot over 21... stupid traps.

I hope you guys had fun last night. I'll be back on Tuesday and probably off and on over the weekend.

Okay, I've been playing too long for this to still be the case, but I don't know what to prioritize when considering armor. I've googled around a bit and only have really found stuff on character stats, not armor.

I got armor from the raid with a total AC of 12 with light fortification, disease guard (causes CON damage to enemies that hit me), 19 lightning resist.

I have the option of another set of armor now, with a total AC of 13, which is adamantine and gives a DR of 3. I also don't know why the DR is formatted 3/-, if anyone would like to explain that.

My instinct would be to think the second set is better because of the DR, but I've heard fortification is important as well, so I'm thoroughly confused. This is the one area of the game where no D&D experience has really frustrated me.

I can't help too much with the armor selection (and, actually, would appreciate some general advice on that too). But for DR, I do know that 3/- means that it reduces all damage by 3, as opposed to something like 5/fire which reduces just fire damage by 5.

Fortification seems to reduce the chance of enemies getting critical hits, which is very useful since it makes it less likely that we'll take catastrophic damage all at once.

The thing I need advice on is how important AC is, if at all, or should I just be focusing on secondary properties.

DR is formatted (How much/what can bypass it) so DR 3/- means damage from any physical attack will be reduced by 3 and nothing can bypass that.

If it was DR 3/slashing then it would mean Damage from any physical attack except from slashing weapons would be reduced by 3.

As for priority in defense, Fortification should be your biggest priority. Once your fort is at 100% (Item with moderate fortification for Warforged or heavy fortification on anyone else) you are immune to sneak attacks and critical hits. That has the biggest impact on your survivability throughout the game. Fortification is found on many items and not just armor. The most common source is Minos Legens a helm you can get easily from a collection reward from the Orchard of the Macabre at level 11.

As for AC, physical resistance, dodge etc that has all changed very recently so it is hard to determine what is the best overall to focus on. Heavy armor is now more important to fighters then before because it adds to your physical resistance more than any other type of armor.

This is not entirely true. Elemental resistance is different then DR. Your elemental resistance numbers listed at the bottom of your character sheet will block elemental damage of a certain type, but you will never see it as a DR 5/fire as the second term is what does not get blocked by DR. Elemental damage is never reduced by DR and is only affected by your resistance score of that element.

The types of DR you can see are:

Alignment (lawful, good, chaotic etc)
Material (silver, adamantium, etc)
Type (piercing, slashing, bludgeoning)
Magic (and weapon with the magic property)
Epic (only named epic mobs do this type of damage)

Just as an aside, AC might not be the be all end all stat that you should look at. I lucked out and found an armor that provided a fear effect anytime a successful hit was done to me and trust me that I prize it way over AC.

If you melee at all , this is a godsend, at least it is on my bard. Enemies are constantly getting feared which allows me to catch my breath and also thins the crowd if I'm getting ganked.

How rare is the bodyfeeder(?) property? It is on a lowbee quest scimitar and it adds a 15 point damage shield (DDO calls it temporary hitpoints) on crit. I can imagine it being great for self sufficiency at all levels (provided there are ranks for it that absorb more damage)

Oh and I found a keen rapier that is awesome! The crit range is 15-20 x2. The x2 isn't as good as x3 but it crits all the time. It seems that melee crit builds aren't that difficult to make in DDO.

Fearsome is great solo but in a group you have to be careful, the other melees might chase a feared creature deeper into the dungeon and pull more then they can handle. They then tend to blame who ever caused the fear effect. I love the Fear added to Arcane Archers Arrows when soloing.

Bodyfeeder and Lifesheild never go higher than 15 HP. And they do not stack so every time you crit it will bring you back up to 15 temp HP never anymore. Bodyfeeder works well on high crit chance weapons Falchion, Scimitar, Rapier, Kukri, Khopesh. You can find it on both named and random loot it is pretty easy to craft as well.

There are some similar effects in higher level items that go up to 30. One good example is the bracers of demon consort:

Hiya GWJers I am thinking of dipping my toes back into DDO for a bit. I was thinking of transfering my toon over for some casual play/leveling. Are you still accepting people into the guild? How active is the guild?

The toon I would probably transfer over is my second life(FvS) monk.

Bodyfeeder is a fantastic soloing/leveling ability especially (as mentioned above) you attack frequently or have a high crit range. The key to soloing efficiently in DDO is often related to your ability to minimize rest shrines and extend your lifebar. Or you can just be arcane or divine and kite enemies through OP TAOE affects.

Come on in the water's fine.

Awesome what characters should I start pestering with tells?

Just post your character names and I will mail you guild invites.

Just a quick update. I'm planning on playing this Tuesday, but I won't be around Thursday. I'll be working convention operations at Otakon in Baltimore.

I am working on getting enough favor to transfer my tr (bags) and start grinding guild renown. I am flexible on playing anything for the group.

I am thinking an evoked cleric or fvs so I can heal or dipses as needed as a sub.

Though it also seemed we were lacking in arcanes.

I decided to go VIP, so that is one less person who needs to borrow Adventure Passes and Challenge Passes, and one more person who can open quests on Elite.

Nightrun is ready for a guild invite

The server transfer on my Monk is estimated to take 5-7 business days WTF.

Turbine is not particularly good at server transfers for some reason or other.

They've just had poor cross-server architecture from the get go. I know in lotro (at least) if you transfer a character off of one server, they can never be transferred back to their original server. Database limitations or some such.
