NCAA Football 2013 game catch-all

Any Penn St fans better grab some named rosters now, before the transfer wave starts.

All the players can apparently transfer with no sitting out penalty.

I do not know how long they have to choose, but I think it is too late to transfer out now. The season starts in 5 weeks and most everyone is practicing right now. I would think there are no scholarships to be had if they moved to another school.

I have to admit I am SO tempted to start a Penn State season and purposefully lose every game.

I was tempted to just replace them, effectively giving them the death penalty in my dynasty.

The game is a little messed up on custom conferences.

You can't go below 4 teams, despite the fact that that's exactly what the WAC currently has for 2013.

And you also can't get rid of all the Independents. I think I ended up throwing Army and Navy in The WAC just to get it up to 4 and so that at least all my other conferences would be accurate.

Guess I need to grab a TeamBuilder of South Alabama and put them in. Surely someone has made a few accurate versions by now. I assume there are a couple other teams on track for FBS in 2013 or 2014, and that might be fun too.

Make Penn St an Independent. That is what I will probably do for the BCS league

Not sure how much this affects any of us, but there's an online ranking system update.

First, we are updating the skill level thresholds. They will be more granular at the lower levels than they are now. Many players will see a significant jump in their level after playing their next online game. The second change is adding a slight point bonus for playing and completing a game. This means players will get slightly more points for a win slightly fewer points for a loss than they received previously.
... The final change we did was to institute a point floor of 300. With the point floor, a user will not fall below 300 points if they lose a game.

That may explain why a guy who has played close to 50 games had the same level one rank as me with 10 games played at the time.

Too much cheese for me to play online against strangers.

Yeah there is quite a bit already. Also some stock defenses that just suck if you have a team that has good man to man corners. This game really requires route combos and even then you can just get swamped. I hate AI jump snapping as well.

Can't you turn that off (conservative) in that playbook menu(L1)? I use that thing every game at the start to run aggressive clock management and some other things I like.

Filthy skimmer.

Covered last page, 11 days ago, when it was announced.

Damn you Facebook!!!

It just popped up in my feed and I thought it was new!

Here's hoping the dynasty freeze issue is gone and never affects our online dynasties. I did have good luck with the save-from-recruiting workarounds.

Did anyone else hear rumor of a tuning update to go with this?

Interesting...I popped over to TrueAchievements.com and peaked at their stats on the achievements. It seems that Barry Sanders is the player most used to win the Heisman in the RtH mode, topping RGIII by 10%.

The whole list is as follows, ranked in order of decreasing popularity. TA is the number of TA points for each player, compared with the 30 achievement points given for each, and the Fraction is the fraction of times that player was used to win the Heisman compared with Barry Sanders. Andre Ware was only used 53% as often as Barry Sanders, at least amongst TA users.

I'm a bit surprised Barry is first. I would have thought Doug Flutie would be the next in line, but Herschel Walker comes up. Is it just that RBs have a better chance of winning?

Player TA Fraction
Barry Sanders 71 100%
Robert Griffin III 74 91%
Herschel Walker 87 67%
Doug Flutie 89 63%
Eddie George 92 59%
Desmond Howard 94 57%
Carson Palmer 94 57%
Charlie Ward 95 55%
Marcus Allen 96 54%
Andre Ware 98 53%

Road to the Heisman, like last year's Road to Glory, in a word, sucks. Meet the new game, same as the old game. Defense sucks, play calling sucks, and timeout management sucks. Baylor vs Texas, and my defense gave up a TD on every defensive stand except 1, and that led to a FG. How are you supposed to win like that? I realize it's Texas, but can I get 1 or 2 defensive stops? Also, time winding down in the half, I complete a first down pass with :31 on the clock and only two time outs. Hurry up and spike the ball? Naw, let's burn a timeout, why the hell would we need one of those? 6 yard sack on the next play, and now we know why. Horrible. Oh yeah, the play calling. 1st down screen pass, can't get the pass off due to blitzing LBs............let's run a screen on 2nd down! LBs didn't blitz, but the RB took his sweet time to get open, and was heavily covered. I just hope playing in the ODs are just as fun as last year, since it's pretty much the same game.

I will say this, the passing is more realistic. Passes 30 yards down field aren't intercepted 15 yard away with a leap, like the pass was thrown on a line drive.

Also, does anyone know how to slide with a QB? It seems no matter how short or long I hold the X button, it dives forward.

I have never pulled off a slide. I wish I knew, too.

And I concur about the RTG stuff. But honestly, most Be a Pro type stuff actually sucks if you spend any time actually paying attention to it. It's a neat idea in theory, but the execution is always lacking. The NHL series got it close, but even ruined that.

I messed around with coach mode last night, and that actually seems pretty cool. It takes me back to my FBPro 98 days. Unfortunately, you can't do a dynasty in coach mode, and who is going to play one off games this way? I'd love to find a group of old FBPro guys and do a coach mode dynasty.

You need to tap the X button a little earlier this year.

NBA2k's My Player is quite awesome.

But yeah, I assumed Heisman mode would suck, and of course they put 10 achievements there. Going to be a pain in the ass to 100% this year.

Surprisingly the high school part of RTG was pretty good. As a RB/S, I don't have to worry about my sim defense sucking. The defense camera is still awful, so there's that. But on offense, the coach was calling run plays 9/10 times for me. I haven't been back to it since I started up my dynasty, but I think getting those achievements will be easy.

Wow. I have had a couple of good games to start off my U. of Washington dyansty (I just couldn't stand the orange uniforms for Oregon State).

21-14 home win (in the rain of course) against SDSU, scored the go ahead TD with just 1:03 left in the game.

Then a 19-17 nail biter win at LSU. I took a 7-3 lead going into the half after they kicked a FG as time expired. They took the kick off and marched down the field for a TD to take the lead. I bounce back with a TD of my own followed up by a safety to take a 16-10 lead going into the 4th. I took the free kick and moved down inside the Tigers 10 yard line only to throw a pick, giving them the ball back with just over 2 minutes left. They came down field and scored to take a one point lead and leaving me just over 30 seconds.

I managed to get down field into what I had hoped was FG range, I had missed a 36 yarder with no wind and full power earlier. Ran the ball once to line the kick up and then tried to mash the the back button over and over again to get a TO but it wouldn't register managed to hit the xbox button to bring up the dashboard, hit the xbox button again and then start with 2 seconds left and got my TO. Line up for a 31 yard FG and the computer ice's my kicker and this is the first time I'm kicking with the ice the kicker mode. Managed to get what looks like a fair kick off that snuck over the bar by about 2 ball lengths for the win.

So this is fantasy football!

Another update coming:

Gameplay
Fixed issue where running the no-huddle was taking too long.
Fixed an issue where players were sometimes not breaking the huddle.
Fixed it so receivers won’t slip as much on the turf when it is raining.
Dynasty
Fixed it where prospects were softly committing to schools even though they were not on that school’s recruiting board or showed any interest.
Fixed some recruiting logic where CPU teams were not offering scholarships to some prospects.
Fixed an issue with uploading highlights to Dynasty Wire.
Made the sorting on the Recruiting more user friendly so that it remembers previous sorts.
Fixed an issue where a prospect with low interest was getting changed to “N/A”.
Fixed an issue where some Online Dynasties were losing players and coaches.
Fixed a problem where promises were getting deleted.
Online Head-to-Head
Fixed a reporting issue where if someone went offsides three times it forced their opponent into a loss.
Stability
Increased the stability of the product by fixing various crashes.

Seems like a little more support than previous years. I thought they always cut off patches in Sept.

Made the sorting on the Recruiting more user friendly so that it remembers previous sorts.

Yes! That was one of my few frustrations this year, it kept reverting to default.

Looks like Roster Share is down for both PS3 and 360, has been all week, and no official word yet on why or if it will get fixed.

*Begin rant*

Just amazes me how poor EA is when it comes to responding to issues involving this game. I've been unable to log in via my console to the website for over a week and even though I could advance through the website now I'm unable to do that either. Just amazing at all the "forums" they have for problems but nobody is there to answer questions

*End Rant*

Sorry you are having troubles, but the dynasty stuff is working fine right now.

I'd check this.

If you have a firewall or network hardware, such as a router, you might need to make a configuration change in order for your PC or Xbox 360 console to communicate with Xbox LIVE. This configuration change is sometimes called “opening ports” or "port forwarding."

Xbox LIVE requires the following ports to be open:

Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
Port 80 (TCP)
Note If you cannot chat with someone using Video Kinect, you might need to open port 1863 (UDP and TCP).

I can connect to Xbox Live just fine (I have a one person OD that I'm running and having no problem playing games), I am unable to get this OD to load via the console.

Now, why aren't you playing with us?

BCS league
2 star school league

I'll even relinquish Iowa after the bowl game in the BCS league if you like...

Cool! Welcome!

And, yes, EA pretty much gives up on some issues every year. Or year after year in the case of the human vs. human bowl game difficulties.

But, seriously, if you're into the game and not into exploiting the game's glitches, think about joining us in one of our ODs. You can play in multiple ones, so it won't muck up your personal OD.

The BCS league is nearing the end of its first season (awaiting one bowl game...sorry guys). You can choose any non-6* team in that one. The 2* league is early in its second season. The idea there is to choose a weak team and build it up, either a 2* or lower team or a team that was 2* in season one.
