Let's trade some coffee! We usually do a trade every 6 months or so. The idea is to buy some beans you like from a local roaster and trade them with a fellow GWJer's favorite. We usually get a group of people going and then pair people off who aren't in the same area.
For shipping, if you don't order online and ship them directly, a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope is generally your best best. It costs a bit over $5 and takes 2-3 days to ship.
I'm in! There's a shop not far called Just Love coffee that sells free trade beans that are absolutely amazing.
I'm in. Some NC delights...
Counter Culture
Larry's Beans
Muddy Dog
Cup of Joe
Joe Van Gogh
Seeing as many roasters have seasonal releases, I think this could also be a year round thing if anyone is interested.
one bag at a time? my local shop carries quite a few good brands:
detour
stump town
phil & sebastian
49th parallel
I can't do the beer tread, but I can do this one.
Great idea! Tho' I'm in NC so my list of available local roasters is going to look like this too:

I've only tried Counter Culture and Larry's Beans, though, I'm not familiar with the others. I can't say I've been impressed with Larry's Beans, they seem to go the Starbucks route of burning everything. Counter Culture, on the other hand, is great. My favorite local roaster so far, though, is Bean Traders Coffee.

You and I, sir, are through, professionally. I don't like their espresso blend, but I dig the rest of their roasts.

I've only tried a couple of blends, one of which I know was the espresso, so maybe that's just it.
I just know that conversely, everything I've tried at Counter Culture and Bean Traders, I've liked. So... Nyeah!

I've been seeing Larry's Beans brewed at convenient stores lately too. I'm not a huge fan of them either but I know some people who prefer their beans well done.
TB has already won, you guys just don't know it yet.
I'm just commenting. Steam used up my fun-money for the foreseeable future.
I'm in Utah, by the by.
Count me in! Some local roasters just to name a few....
If we end up with an odd amount I dont mind being paired twice. My wife fully supports this adventure in science!
I came in to the thread to offer to send some of Portland Stumptown out only to see it was the basis for the thread. I don't have a refined coffee palate but I'll happily add to your Stumptown pile as my wife will appreciate the rewards.
Sweet, Rahmen! You can pair up with brouhaha. It'll be a Portland to Portland exchange. That Matt's wood roasted coffee is intriguing!!!
Yes, I've never had Matt's Wood Roasted. A co-worker lives near him and he swears by the stuff.
Just thinking about the shipping how much easier it'll be than the The Great Goodjer Beer Exchange. Wow, was that a pain; but worth it! I think I'm going to use UPS ground for this. I find their prices much better than USPS.
Rahmen, PM sent!
I'll just leave this here....
Sign me up twice i have a local shop I go to every day that does it all themselves. If anything I want others to experience the joy that is Arcedium coffee.
I am in the real Chicago (burbs)
My suggestion to everyone, though, is going with a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope. It costs about $4.95 and the shipping time is 2-3 days anywhere in the US.
Oh good, I'm glad you posted this. I forget those bags will fit in the USPS Flat Rate Envelope; rather than a clunky box! Thanks!

I probably would have boxed them, thanks for the protip.
Much thanks to tuffalo for the Extracto! Really on his game to get it here that fast! I will post pics and comments when I get home from work.
The pics as promised, because it happened.
The beans
The wait
The coffee
The coffee itself is very smooth, with almost no bitterness to it. And not that I am a professional taster, but I picked up a strong toffee essence. It should noted, however, that I enjoyed this cup with a chocolate chip cookie, which may have made my palate seek out that flavor.
Thanks again to tuffalo for the outstanding coffee.
I'm pretty much a like or dislike person too. I do notice that I can pick up on more flavors when I drink cold brewed coffee. I don't brew it myself, but we have a new place in NC that does it, Slingshot Coffee. It's pretty good too.
I don't drink coffee but since no one has volunteered from Seattle, I can grab you guys anything you want from here. I also have access to some Cuban, Puerto Rican, or Caribbean coffee. Do people prefer whole bean or pre-ground stuff? I'll wrangle up a list of the good local ones I know about in my next post if anyone wants it.
brouhaha in case you see this and haven't checked your PM inbox, check your PM inbox otherwise sender's choice is on the way
Edwin - I'm guessing most of the folks would prefer the beans but since I wasn't sure that was one of the things I included in the PM while working out the logistics with the person I was paired up with.
