The first inaugural GWJ youth gaming scholarship, COMPLETE!

Funny, I just finished watching that. Honestly, between the swearing and the portrayal of the nervous breakdowns that accompany game development, I think we'll hold off on showing him that one for now.

Ok good to know. I haven't seen it so I didn't know if it was appropriate.

I love this community so much. You guys are amazing, and I'm always humbled to be part of this community. You guys are giving me so much fodder for my college essays.

Seriously?!? How did this thread get tainted with spam. That's really low. We need some Certis to the rescue.

ho hum

Maybe it'll be like a Hallmark movie: The spammer will see the generosity of this thread, his evil ways will melt away, and he'll pitch in by giving Liam 2000 doses of Bolivian Viagra and his guide to scoring threesomes with lacrosse groupies.

I so have to quote this so when your 'sis' stops by again she'll know what your real aspirations for Liam are

Spoiler:

Don't forget to imbue in him the importance of sharing information, specifically the guide to scoring lacrosse groupie threesomes.

You guys are awesome.

Prince of Persia pack on the way to Liam. I figured some of the later ones might be a bit violent, but then one of you monsters sent him Binding of Isaac, I figure the damage has been done.

Has anyone seen Indie Game the movie? Would it be appropriate for someone his age? That could be some good inspiration.

I think there is some swearing.

I just bought this movie last night direct from the film site. Went to download and noticed they also have "clean" versions without swearing. Just FYI.

It's not just the swearing. It is also that the programmers give quite the insight on their thoughts, and talk about being depressed and worse. It's not very positive in that way.

I just realized his collection missed one game. This is now corrected.

Came home today to a pile of boxes on the kitchen table. Case, keyboard, power supply, hard drive, and RAM all delivered. I'm expecting the rest by the end of the week, and we're hoping to have the big reveal Friday!

There needs to be video!

Before you video, and I am sure that you know this, ask mom for permission.

Does he have a USB thumb drive? I still have to get you the ISO for Win7 and the exe's for the other two somehow. I was thinking of putting them on a USB drive and mailing it to you. I was going to format the USB drive so you can install Win7 directly from it. Pros are that its a smaller package and faster to install but we risk the change of him losing the thumb drive and the data on it in case you guys need to re-install. Unless you make a backup of it.

What do you think?

Just download windows from 'somewhere' and use a legit serial?

I can burn those to disk for you, if you want.

I can burn them too, I just want to avoid using DVDs cause they can get damaged, plus a thumb drive is always useful.

Put them in the thumb drive, just make sure it's the mom that takes care of that stuff for now. Have a designated "computer stuff" drawer or something.

A thumb drive would work well. I agree, my sister can keep it secure.

Somehow I've missed this whole glorious event. I was doing ok until I got to the part where the mom read the thread and Teneman offered the getaway weekend, and then I just sorta lost it for a moment. This is the best community, ever. I know first-hand what a difference things like this make in a life. I think of you guys every time I open the door to let my dogs out into the safety of our own back yard, thanks to all of you. Your donations, your encouragement, your wisdom and support - I'm just not sure if you guys will ever understand how much it really means. I'd still like to help with this campaign even though I'm late to the party, I figure a paypal donation for gas and spending money is the way to go at this point?

A link to pass on maybe...?

Making of Grimrock: Rapid Programming

In this week’s chapter of “making of Grimrock” I’m going to talk about programming. This might be a little lengthier post and more technical and therefore probably not for everybody, so it’s fine if you want to just skim ahead

Absolutely. Any money left in the PayPal account after the computer is built and running will go towards gas, food and spending money for their trip up to Teneman's fortress. If you do still want to contribute, that's the best way.

Yeah, he's gonna receive the biggest Steam pile ever. Pretty sure he could game for life on just what's in that library.
