Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

Sam and the Womp. 2 parts Balkan horns, 1 part Sugarcubes, a splash of drum and bass, mixed together in Trevor Horn's shed. Probably because his son's in the band.

Bonkers.

That's... quite a thing.

I call this group the Jack White interview special:

What a great tune, quite close to the Electroswing genre (my favorite genre).
EDIT: Actually Splice is my favorite genre, or any mixing of 2 genres with virtually no similarities or is of novel combination [See: Industrial Hiphop Opera].

(Electroswing incoming: )

Left Caravan Palace off because I know that they have been posted previously. Not the easiest genre to find music for.

I can't stop listening to this track!

I've been enjoying the new Metric album this month. I always liked them because they are a fun band to watch live.

Nice list, by the way, Kehama.

Edit: This is probably my favorite song from the new Metric album. It's carazy catchy.

The Vaccines made my favorite album of last year. They are wasting no time getting more awesome music out there.

The Vaccines - No Hope

also

Japandroids - Adrenaline Nightshift

Now, that I've listed a few bands I can't stop. I think this song need to be heard, too.

Mystery Jets - You Had Me At Hello

J.D. McPherson doing North Side Gal. Love this guy.

I was watching that Ill Mind of Hopsin video someone posted to the video thread, and it kinda reminded me of something. Just realized what it was: Curse by Recoil. Same kind of strong story, though thematically pretty different. Can't embed Vimeo, I think, so here's a link:

The rapper in that track is Moby.

Freakin love these guys. They have the subtle sensibilities of Everything But The Girl.

I like!

YES!! to Japandroids!

I just found this cool lo-fi, electronic, "stare out the window for a while album"

I always forget how good My Morning Jacket's album Z is.

While we all wait for the new xx album, check out Purity Ring:

More Caravan Palace:

The next reveal from XX's upcoming Coexist.

So far so good.

Love the offbeat percussion.

I'm loving the new Metric album. Glad to hear they are good live, as I'm going to see them at the beginning of September. Though the show is crazy-expensive. $70-140.

So I guess that not every city has a station as awesome as our local station The Current (Stream here). Great stuff. Check it out.

I'm a dirty skimmer, but here's some of what I've been jamming to recently:

Not new, but never finds its way far from my playlists:

Right Away, Great Captain! Heard about this project a while ago, but just finally picked it up. Really cool concept albums:

That Purity Ring song is great. Really enjoying it. My favorite track of the new Aesop Rock:

There was a band that came to my hometown with Ten Years a little over a month ago named Fair to Midland. At first I thought they were somewhat strange; I couldn't understand any of the lyrics because I had never heard of them, and the lead singer looked he was having an epileptic attack on stage. But the longer they were up there, the more I enjoyed them. The lead singer's vocal range is nothing short of incredible; it sounds like two competely different people on the CDs. And his "epileptic episodes" became quite entertaining. Once the concert was over and I started listening to their music more, I became hooked. They are now close to my top ten bands. I would post their youtube videos for "Musical Chairs" and "Dance of the Manatee," their most popular songs, but I can't figure out how to embed the video without it showing up as just a link.

Fair to Midland - Musical Chairs

Fair to Midland - Dance of the Manatee

There you go!

Well thank you sir!!! Or madame....lol

The new Twin Shadow album is really starting to stick with me. This song is unbelievably catchy:

The Sigur Rós show last night was a mixed bag. They did a "best of" setlist playing about 3 songs from every album. That was pretty cool. I really didn't like the outdoor venue. The last couple times were at the Arlene Schnitzer concert hall with basically perfect sound. The shows were perfect and very personal as it was dark and people didn't talk. I don't think I can do outdoor shows anymore if I actually care about the band playing. The acoustics aren't good. People talk loudly and I have to try and shout out their stupid conversations. People bring blankets to sit on and then stand in front of you the whole time. Eff you people. There is standing area and a sitting area. People couldn't seem to figure that out. They just stand there like idiots blocking my view. I was very frustrated with humanity riding home on the bus last night.

Someone a few pages back pointed out the monthly Artists on the Rise selections on Amazon. Sorry don't remember who and am too tired/lazy to go back and look but these were some that I thought were kind of catchy from last month:

They played that one at the show I saw, garion333. It was pretty cool.

Japandroids released a video for "The House That Heaven Built" yesterday. Not only is the song my favorite of the year so far, but I simply cannot stop watching this video. It is everything that is great about Japandroids in 4 minutes and 58 seconds. It's a journal of touring, drinking, partying, having fun, having too much fun, hanging out, and rocking out.

[hyperbole] If you don't like this, you don't like rock 'n roll [/hyperbole].

Thanks for posting that vid, B Dog. Definitely woke me up on a slow morning

I recommend watching it throughout the day to maintain optimal energy.

Has anybody mentioned Delta Rae yet? Check 'em out if you're in the mood for some good Americana. I caught their show in Roanoke just before I went away for the summer, and I played their first album pretty much on a loop throughout June and July.

Here's a quick 4-song medley showing off their rotating vocal duties:

And the full version of Bottom of the River, should you want to hear the whole thing (or just want to see something kinda creepy).

Randomly came across this song tonight. It hit the spot for some reason.

Edit: Daughter has 2 EPs. The newest one is available on Bandcamp in any format. The older one is available on Amazon. It's totally worth a go if you enjoy things like Feist once in awhile. They've got a total of eight fun songs.

Edit 2: Okay, this'll be the last edit. This is probably my second favorite track.
