I want pictures of your bookshelves!

So I took a new job that starts the first week of August and when I gave my two weeks notice at my current job they decided to end my employment immediately. Whee.

Since this leaves me with copious amounts of free time for the next couple of weeks I've decided to start giving a lot more attention to my fantasy and science fiction book blog. Should you feel like clicking the link you'll notice I've got some rotating pictures of genre-based bookshelves. I'd love to have more.

If you'd be willing to snap a picture of your science fiction and/or fantasy book shelf I'd love to post it on the site and create a gallery of goodjer shelves. You can either post a link to your pic in this thread or send it to [email protected]. Don't worry about size or whatnot - I'm more than happy to resize submitted pictures to the dimensions I need for the main page.

Does this count? It's what's behind me right now...

I'm going to have to dust first... :p

You just want book bookshelves or collectible wall shelves too?

Okay, you asked for it.

The bookshelves on the left are on top of my safe. That's why there's a box of .30-30 shells there.

Star Trek: New Frontier novels! Those are the only Star Trek novels I could ever get into.

My shelf:

And the wide shot:

Oh great. Now I have the overwelming urge to organize my bookshelf for picture times.

I'm kind of regretting my request now since the shelves posted so far are just making me green with envy. Ha.

Because of Peter David.

Mackenzie Calhoun is basically a revamped clone of David's older character Quintin Stone.

Oh, my RPG bookshelf. They are books!

You're welcome.

Hard to tell from the picture, but this is where I put most of my old game cds, fantasy novels, and my D20 gaming books. Top shelf used to house all my Dresden, Sandman, and vapid trash Forgotten Realms stuff but I had to expand to several bookshelves and now it just has a few things from here and there.

This is my home office, seats 2.

I dig the giant shelf and double desks. Are those outlets built into the desk?

Yes, also installed USB gromits in the back of the desk area. 12 ft ceilings too, so it is pretty tall.

Here are my messy book shelves. Well most of the ones with books on them. Have smaller set of shelves just for my One Piece Manga.

I wish my shelves were that "messy"

Here's shelf 1 Mostly trade paperbacks and hardcovers

Shelf 2 Mass market paperbacks and RPG books. The magazine racks have printed PDFs of RPGs. I bind them w/ 2 pieces of card stock and some brass binder clips similar to how a screenplay is bound.

Some closeups. Robotech, a Pirate who's no longer a Pirate, and my Dwights.

Print RPGs

I see a few people have the box shaped divided shelves. Any opinion on those compared to your standard bookshelves? I'm looking to shelve books only, but some are hefty hardcovers (complete works of Shakespeare and such).

Always glad to see the Myst books on someone else's shelf. Those are surprisingly good novels.

I used to have most of the New Frontier novels, traded them in to a used book store a while back... Now I want to re-read them, and the Kindle editions are WAY too pricey.

For Dummies books. I still hear my teacher's words echo in my head every time I see those: "None of you are dummies. You would not be here if you were dummies."

We were forbidden from ever showing up with one of those books. No one ever did... not sure how the faculty would have reacted.

If you're referring to these, the one in my picture is used exclusively for board games. They're useful shelves in general. If your "hefty hardcovers" are about the size of or smaller than your typical board game box (e.g. Ticket to Ride, Dominion), they'll fit nicely.

True dat. The last time I organized my bookshelves, I simplified it to fiction and non-fiction, no more breaking up by genre.

But now my bookshelves are blocked by a crib and a glider chair and a laundry rack; plus, as in any good home, the shelves were stuffed full ages ago and books are now stacked in piles all over the house (Quintin, you look like you know what I'm talking about).

The one of interest is my wife's bookshelf, which is on the left. Not so much the books, which is all manga on the top. I finished it only a few months after her birthday that year.

I sure do, Gravey. Granted, we do have more bookshelves in the house... somewhere. I think? Anyway, these are my books. I'm planning another bookshelf, wall mounted above my laundry hamper.

I'm currently on Grave Peril in my perennial Dresden Files reading cycle, as you can see from the hole on the middle shelf.

Quintin, your shelves are extremely similar in content to mine. Except for the Star Trek stuff.

I was just about to post the same thing. Someone has excellent taste.

You mean me, right?

It's a good series.

Most of the characters are actually cast-offs from TNG and other books/shows. Shelby from Best of Both Worlds. Ashley Judd's brief character. A vulcan doctor from one episode.

No Steven Erikson, you all fail.
