Guild Wars 2 and GWJ: Launch Date And Final Beta Weekend

These skill vodeos make me worry about latency. ATM I'm getting between 300 and 450 in GW on a good day, until I move and get DSL I don't see that changing in the new game.

Any idea what time the beta starts?

12pm PST. The past two BWE's started about 30 min - 45 min early.

Any of you planning on buying gems? The one's I am interested in are the extra character slot.

I will likely try it out. Extra character slots are handy. Especially when my son is always asking me to create new guys.

I wonder what the conversion will be $->gems

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gem_...

Apparently it's around $10/€10 to 800 gems.

If I'm going to buy any, it won't be soon. The main things I'd be enticed by is more bag/bank slots, and I think that will be after I've maxed what's available at the start and learned what needs to be kept or just worth selling/salvaging.

Then there's the gold-gems conversion, but there's plenty of stuff to spend gold on, so I don't see myself having spare gold for a good long while.

So which server are folks planning on playing on? I got surprise beta access over the past weekend, and I know little/nothing about this game, so having some people to help me from making a complete fool of myself would be great.

Well, we did Sea of Sorrows last time, Jade Quarry as backup.

I'm hopping onto Sea of Sorrows, in any case.

Oh yeah, it's up now.

Servers are up.

I'm on Sea of Sorrows as Phaedra a Sylvari Ranger.

Some of us were on Fort Aspenwood as well and probably will be again. Jadeand Sorrows has filled up verry quickly last time.

I sense a lot of Sylvari rangers in the works.

(I'm Sepheera, Sylari Ranger)

Performance seems a whole load better this time, although I haven't been in any WvW fights yet, and previously I found it quite variable between when it was quiet and when there's a big battle going on.

edit: Yep, it's now loading both of my CPUs and putting a decent load on my GPU, whereas previously it didn't.

Rata sum is a death trap. Which idiot designed it?

Matt Barrett, the concept artist largely responsible for creating the asuran architecture, is confident that beta players will enjoy exploring Metrica Province and monolithic Rata Sum

Matt Barrett, partially?

Apparently WvW is kind of laggy. And to temporarily fix it, they've reduced the number of players allowed in.

We have discovered that there is an issue that is causing some of the WvW maps to use more server CPU than expected. When this happens and the server reaches 100% CPU usage, lag will become an issue.
This mainly becomes an issue once we have a large amount of players in the map, so we are reducing the max player count in WvW maps to try and keep the server from maxing out. This does mean that you’ll see more queues (particularly for EB) but the lag should stop (or at least be greatly reduced).

Wow, I just might make most characters Sylvari :-O

Yes, the character design of the 2 new races is really nice. I'm still no closer to knowing what race/class/gender combinations I'm going to do yet, and that I want to do it all (which I suppose is a good sign). I know I can't play everything though, and some of those combinations will have to be other people's characters, and I'm going to have to find one I can make my second skin.

One odd thing though is that I find the addition of the Sylvari/Asura home areas a bit jarring coming from GW1 and the other 3 areas. It's very different and I think it'll take a bit of time to update/adjust my mental vision of Tyria to incorporate it. I can't say I've explored much outside either of their cities, but it doesn't seem very connected... yet.

The Asura pretty much win the game, I think.

I'll certainly give them one thing, they went all-in with the Sylvari/Asura. I really love the bioluminescence.

I am blown away by the Sylvari design. Someone deserves a raise.

Just in case it hasn't been posted yet, Amazon finally set up their Guild Wars 2 digital download version. Purchased the deluxe version just now, using $50 gift cards.

So: Unlimited lifetime access to Guild Wars 2 through the Digital Deluxe version = $36. Thank you credit card debt reward points!

Anyone have any info on the GWJ guild? Who's in charge of it, is there a thread for it already, etc.?

Folks were talking about running the guild on pages 6 and 7 of this thread. One of them will start a thread when they are ready.

I'm loving the Sylvari area and also the Engineer class. But good gravy what dim bulb did pricing for the Gem Store? 800 gems for US$10. And just about everything is crazy expensive, cheapest thing I saw was 250 gems. WTF?!? Why go into hundreds of gems if the cheapest item is 250. Also who is going to pay over $2 just to access your mailbox once for 5 mins (even if anyone else can also use it).

They need to see how Turbine's DDO store functions. It really makes you want to spend money.

I agree. The pricing is wonky. But, there's a currency exchange function that should allow you to buy gems with gold. That's a nifty feature.

I've ran into a strange technical problem.

I was installed from previous beta weekends and started the update this morning before i went to work.

When i came home i loaded the game up started a new toon and played for the first 3 levels and logged off to go out.

When i came back later to play i kept getting an error trying to start up and the error message was alternating between not being able to access the gw2.dat and the gw2.tmp table.

I tried starting in admin mode and that didnt help. I rebooted and was able to start back into the game and thought all was well. About 5 min back into the game i crashed with the same error. So i deleted everything and tried reinstalling fresh.

The install was then crashing around 4% every time.

I checked the forums and there seems to be a lot of people having a similar problem but the few answers offered were things i already tried and they didnt work.

Right now i'm trying my latest attempt and i'm up to 15% installed and it seems to be working.

I went to the .dat and .tmp files and manually gave myself full control access to those files even though i'm the admin on box already.

So far so good... we'll see what happens.

Yesterday.

:p

I have to say I am loving the vistas. I hope they double the amount of them for release. IN fact I'd love tiers for them or something like a quest chain for them. Once you view one it unlocks others for you to find, etc.

I am not really seeing much change of anything with engineer turrets and kits other than mines are a utility skill instead of a kit you equip.

My asura thief is adorable. Unfortunately, I can't play asura. The fulcrum between the camera and its target is made for a taller race so it swings and pans awkwardly for me when my asura moves. It is just a little too jarring for me to be able to play despite trying to zoom in and out for a more comfortable spot.

My engineer is a sylvari. The sylvari starter grounds are fantastic in both questing and visuals. I also like the sylvari plot so far. It is second in plot only to the Charr but the Charr's zone layout is too mishmashed for me.
