Frozen Synapse "The Ultimate Tactical Game" from Mode 7

Ok ok ok, I'll fire it up... tomorrow

You can wait one more day. I need sleep now!

Sorry I missed your invite yesterday mooosicle. I might have about an hour tonight, though Sunday morning / early afternoons are best for me.

Hi FRozen Syn gwjers.
I just bought this game via the Steam summer sale. Trying to wrap my head around how to play. Have done the tutorial but havent watched any tutorial videos yet. I have a simple understanding but probably wrong
1.phases - planning phases, then press play to see how YOUR units perform, then press the prime button to see the OUTCOME phase where you will see your units move and the enemy (why does it have to cover up the screen with that word?) then you press TURN 2 and move into the new planning phase.

ok going to watch an intro video, really want to wrap my head around how to play

The headache is that when you press play in the planning phase, what you see is how your orders would play out if the enemy all stayed in place. It brings new meaning to the old saying, "No plan survives contact with the enemy."

Ok I'll try to hit you then

Oh damn I missed the sale on the DLC. I saw it up and didn't pay enough attention because I own the base game.

The DLC has coop right? how does that work exactly.

Of course it's possible to order the enemy units to do anything you please too, so you can go through any number of 'what if?' scenarios. So pressing play in planning is a way of examining infinite potential outcomes, the enemy doing nothing being just one of them (and rather unlikely).

I see it's on

Too bad about the map we got. Not exactly my favorite kind of layout for extermination games.

On like Donkey Kong!

Somehow, I'd missed that entirely. Wow, and thanks!

That smile tells me you already got the drop on me.

Bag of richards...

Feel free to challenge me as well.

Probably will get reamed, but what the hell

Wait, this game has a co-op mode now? Oh, I see, it's part of the DLC--I guess I should pick it up eventually.

Yeah, I always give the AI units simulated orders when planning.

Played a couple of turns in co-op with mooosicle tonight, and I really like the way they handle it. Glad it's still async (I had a bad feeling the co-op would be synch only), and sharing plans is pretty cool.

Also, mistakenly marks myself as looking for games, and only in Dark Elimination mode. Not a good mode for newbs, and the dude I'm playing against has some absurd (but good) tactics. Two turns in, and despite thinking I made smart, tactical moves, I'm getting destroyed. Ooof.

Oh how I know that feeling. Before submitting the turn button I'm all "This is going to be epic, he'll never see this coming!" Then, after I hit the submit turn button I'm all "What the frak? How did I not see that coming?"

DLC people can invite vanilla ppl to coop if you'll like to play some.

Played my turn in the co-op game with mooosicle and there was no move I could make that didn't result in my dying in the first half a second. A red guy had come up behind me right at the end of the previous turn. I was at a corner, but couldn't get around it quick enough, or turn to shoot back quick enough to avoid death. That was my last dude. It's all on you now mooo.

alright. i'll tactics my way outta this!

You'd make a great commander of the Light Brigade.

In other news, this game is still fun. When's the iOS version available?

Hmm, this reminds me, I've gotta respond to oMonarca's move. I'll try and get on tonight and play it. Hopefully I can win this one!

Anyone else up for some challenges? I'm easy

Easy because the game's actually pretty balanced. No OP units to save yer ass.

And I get the feeling this game will be closer. Kind of overbid needlessly.

So is co-op the same as single player but you just each control half the guys?

Pretty much. And it's still async like the MP is.

Maybe. You definitely overbid though. Once I knew I had 3 snipers I was like, ok, I'm camping!

There's definitely a wall on that map that must be crossed. Nobody else can cross it, just me.

But I might yet salvage a gg.

EDIT, Sep 5th, 2012: Whoa, what an ass full of pounding I got just about now. Score's 3-2, Sabre, so you need to tie this before you can claim the supremacy of the down unders.

I'm having a ton of fun with our back and forth as of late. 'Tis a tiny nugget of good stuff to look forward to every day

I want to know if anyone else here wants to play also. Tkyl, you still up for a challenge of mine? Anyone else?

Yeah, I think I got lucky. 3 of yours in one move

I must admit though that this has actually been fun. It's kinda nice to have that move every couple of days or so and just sit and ponder. I think this is easily one of my favourite games of all time. It can suck really bad when you lose, but feels so damn good when you win.

I haven't logged in yet, but from the way you're talking, I'm assuming I took out your fourth guy? Happy to keep the matches going. Maybe some disputed? We're playing charge now right? I still think Upload is my favourite mode so far.

Yup, I figured my chances were low, so I rushed for the Alamo, the Alamo being a bullet in the belly (hmmm, alliteration).

I challenged you for another go Charge, but feel free to switch ignore it and challenge me to something else. I'm good for any other game.

Already primed and ready to go... this one should be interesting since you've got a grenade guy... don't like your grenade guys!

Maybe next round we do disputed. Not sure how that works though.

gg! The start of this last match was really tense, as I couldn't figure out which portion of the map I should secure first. After you sniped my rifleman, I really felt uncomfortable.

I challenged you to two games, but the first one, upload, was by mistake, since I got your favorite mode mixed up with your suggestion (disputed).

As such, pick the challenge you want (or both), and leave the other one to dust.

Let the games continue!
