Driver San Francisco Catch-All

Yeah, there's some annoying rubber banding, but that's really my only complaint about what is elsewise an AMAZING game.

Presently stuck on the diabolical "It's For Charity" mission. More than once I've failed it by seconds (and once less than a second).

I was stuck on that because I didn't understand the part where the guys chase you. I thought I had to lose them, and you don't. Just exit right from the square you're in, head towards the truck, and jump in. Basically try to ignore the cars chasing you as much as you can, though weaving into oncoming traffic, boosting, and the like helps to keep them off of you. One strategy that helps a bit in general is to drive on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the road. When I won, one of their cars actually tried to jump in after me! The rest of the parts were fairly easy, though.

I do think that may have been the toughest mission in the game, though.

Well, after leaving the game alone for two days, I got up this morning and picked it up again -- and finished the mission first try, with fifteen seconds to spare. Woot!

The car thieves were definitely the toughest part of that mission, but I was having some trouble with the damaged car as well -- I wrecked it several times, and more than once I smashed it on the inside of the police truck, which was frustrating. I think this morning it helped that I had an easy time with the car thieves, so I didn't have to rush the other three as much. And a good dose of luck, I'm sure. I'm glad that mission is behind me!

A friend and I tried out the online multiplayer this afternoon. It's great, but we're looking for a mode that will let us be on the same team and play against computer opponents, either in story mode or multiplayer -- is there one?

I just finished the story mode for this gem of a game, and had to drop by and see what others thought. I'm glad I wasn't alone in loving it! With the Steam sale in full swing, I hope my bump reminds someone to take a look. This was the most fun I've had in a racing game since Burnout Paradise. For me, it says a lot that I'm keeping it installed to revisit even though it's technically finished. Some of the best entertainment for my dollars ever

I still have to finish it, but WOW I love it so much.

Oh hey, this still works I take it? I keep seeing it in my list but thought ubi shut it down.

Shut what down?

The ubisoft game manager thing that's required to play, someone said that had removed DSF from it once it got so old.

I spoke too soon. It doesn't work. It tries to load, flash a black screen, then dumps me back to a "failed to sync cloud saves" error and skipping that doesn't work either.

So wait, this game doesn't work at all anymore? Why are they still selling it?

Works for me.

Yah, I played online on the 360 about 2 months ago - still up and running.

No idea what isn't supposed to be working but I finished it just fine a couple of weeks ago. Had a blast.
Maybe the online component?

I didn't think the game was dead, but ibdoomed seemed to indicate otherwise. Good to know; I was planning to pick it up if it shows up as a daily or flash deal.

I just started the game after a week of not playing, and there was a patch to Uplay itself. Said "Connectivity problems when Uplay has been running for a long time has been fixed". Not sure if that's involved in his issues or not.

I just tried it again and it's working now. Must have just been down for a few hours.

Ah, the joy that is Uplay

Ugh, I am disappoint. (pun intended)

I've been waiting to play this for awhile. Downloaded last night. Today tried to play but it freezes up then plays again a lot. During cut scenes, during gameplay even during menu selections!

Guess I'll do some research on the issue later. (sigh)

I think something happened, like a patch, because mine is doing the same thing now. I've put like 20 hours into it in the last few days and it's been silky smooth. Now suddenly, it's doing what you describe, freezing but the audio keeps going, like if I'm corner, I can still hear the tires squeeling.

Sigh.

F you Ubi, F you.

Edit to add. I've changed nothing in windows itself, I've only installed other games, I'll see if I can list them all: Greed Corp, Krater, Ys: Oath in Felghana, Far Cry 2, and Tiny Bang Story.

And I've uninstalled a few: Darkness 2, Cave Story, Bastion, Hard Reset and Walking Dead.

Wow, what's with the framerate in this PoS? I played for like half an hour and everything was fine. Got past the tutorial stuff and it's a freaking slideshow. Looking online it seems it's been an issue since launch. Another Ubisoft PC catastrophy I guess. I swore I'd never buy another Ubisoft game on the PC. I just didn't look close enough at the publisher during the Steam sale and sure enough--burned again.

I guess I should be glad I only paid 7.50 for it.

Sounds like a sporadic if frustrating thing. Wonder if it's tied to specific hardware.

I have problems with Saints Row 3 that not many others seem to, and I'm on pretty decent hardware.

I'm not on high-end kit by any means, but well past the minimum and my initial play was about as I expected--30 to 40 fps on medium at 1440x900 (native). Then it dropped to sub 20's pretty consistantly. Yes, frustrating is an excellent word.

Ugh, sorry y'all are having issues with it.

I did the steam check files thing and although I can't tell if it actually did anything, the problem is gone for me now.... I hate that, mysterious solutions.

Read online it is the DRM, block it in firewall and it shoudl work fine. Ill try it tomorrow, someone in the steam sale thread tried it and it works fine now.

Blocked it and have had zero freezes in the menu and cutscenes so far. Way to have your DRM break the game!

I picked this up in the Steam sale and while I can play in Windows wouldn't mind the option to play on OSX since I have more disk space on the OSX partition of the laptop since I saw that was an option but I found the keyboard controls less friendly than when I played the demo on the Xbox. (Long path just to play a game I guess).

Have any of you gotten a controller to work with a game like this in OSX?
