Firefly - Love it!

I think the best way to go would be to fast forward ~10 years, and explore the long-term effects of the Miranda revelation. Maybe throw in a rebellion or a civil war, cause everyone likes space battles. Then the original characters could do cameos and get people all warm and fuzzy without impacting their continuing careers, and it would obviate the "everyone appears older despite Hollywood magic" problem. I'd especially like to know what happened to the Operative after his falling out with the Alliance.

This is exactly what I would want to see, too. It wouldn't even have to be Joss Whedon writing it - it might even be better if he didn't; some other crew of some other ship having that "whedonesque" cadence would be pretty jarring.

I would assume he literally fell on his sword shortly after parting ways with Mal at the end of "Serenity".

Or maybe joined a monastery.

But that might be just like Book...

Maybe the Operative is Book?

I watched Objects in Space recently and besides the embarrassing, "there must be something in my eye," statement that final River/Serenity episode always elicits, it reminds me of Shepard Book's possible dark side...

When River is moving through the ship and she is able to see into people's minds, it is Shepard Book that is the most menacing. I always thought he would open up to someone or get found out. I am really disappointed they had to excise that teaser of a plot line to finish the story prematurely.

In contrast, Jayne's subconscious reaction to River (the guilt over Ariel) is sort of the sweetest. It was nice to find out he is exactly how he presents himself. Jayne may be degenerate thief, but he is the least duplicitous of the whole gang. He admits he is a money grubber, but he knows he really crossed a line this time.

I always wanted more Mal and Zoe story as well. The platonic brothers-in-arms love between the two was sort of bitter sweet. I loved it. The "love" triangle between Mal, Zoe, and Wash was great drama too.

Of all the backstory comics, I like the one that addressed Mal and Zoey between the war and the purchase of a Firefly freighter the best.

heavyfeul - You are aware that Shepherd Book's secret past is fully revealed in the independently-owned Dark Horses's series of Serenity comics, right?

(Massive props for "I was talking out of my ass", by the way.)

So what was it in a nutshell?

NUT

Spoiler:

Rebel, turned double agent, camera eye implant, left the alliance through guilt, became a Shepard.

SHELL

BTW: Not sure why I thought, all these years, that Dark Horse was Marvel's indie house. Probably should use my brain as oppossed to my ass next time.

You REALLY ought to spoiler tag that stuff, heavy.

Edit: You're a peach.

The AVClub is going to do a watch through of the show. I plan on watching along with them!

I did a rewatch recently wherein I invited folks over and we watched all of it in one day, with the movie. Took about 14 hours, and as always, was still an amazing ride.

Avengers - Firefly Intro

That is one of the best things I've seen in a while.

Very much so.

Is it bad that just hearing that song almost makes me shed a tear?

I like how the song ends with "You can't take the sky from me." and the clips ends with them standing on the the ground, looking at the invaders in the sky.

Cross-posting this from the Kickstarter thread:

Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster just added models for mercenaries from their ship 'Calamity' (think Serenity) for a stretch goal. If they hit 470K you get four crew members instead of just two for the 20$ optional bid.

IMAGE(http://www.coolminiornot.com/images/kickstarter-sw/MercCrew.jpg)

"The crew of the Calamity never thought they'd get caught up in the going's on of a remote science station. Still, the take from handling the "special" cargo they hauled from that creepy moon made everything worth it. That and a bit of RnR on a cushy science facility with all the mod cons unavailable on a deep space freighter was a good morale booster for the crew.

Now Captain Ian Reins, his XO Bella Grange, enforcer Phoenix Corbett, and the mysterious and deadly pilot Delta Chen have found themselves caught between Vanguard forces and slavering mutants intent on infecting them with some kind of nano-virus. Still, the crew has dealt with misfortune before, and they intend to get out of this bit of worry like they always do... intact, alive, and broke."

The Captain and his lovely XO will glady report for duty for paltry $20! Like the rest of the promo figures, please limit yourself to 3 each per Biohazard set you're pledging for. Ships in March 2013, unpainted and unassembled.

Complete the crew of the Calamity! If we hit this stretch, Phoenix and Delta join the Cap in his (mis)-adventures on Alabaster Station! They'll ship the same time as the Captain and XO and are free with every set of the Mercenary Crew!

Mercenary Crew complete if we hit this stretch!

I'm going to try to get into this. Sadly, it'll mean sacrificing the Legend of Korra panel, but such are the compromises one makes. Hopefully Saffron*'ll be there.
