Summoner Wars Catch All

Fedaykin has me on the run. Got Sneeks trapped in a corner all by himself against a veritable tide of FK stuff. Including Drago and Elut Baal.

EDIT: Nevermind, right after I post that he kills me off. Was fun while it lasted though.

You're not doing too badly vs my FK. I just can't seem to get close enough to close the deal.

Yeaaargh, and Pacman puts my win record below 50%. Had SO MANY chances shooting my Tundra Orc fighters up and just couldn't close the deal. In retrospect, I should have frozen the other of the two champions you had me cornered with. Although it might not have mattered either way. Good game. Am still tweaking the Orc deck. Still not sure I like the shamans and smashers, but I adore the string of rolls I can ride with a lucky fighter or furious Ragnor.

I'm getting decentish at hit and running with one guy left to just be annoying. It is pretty much how I play chess, so now it is translating over to SW.

I can tell you you're doing it right. The most annoying PE was the one I couldn't seem to get kills on - with warriors blaze stepping back, archers zoning the hell it of me, and Elien just up enough for the guaranteed 2 damage, staying just out of reach.

CL and FK seem to be my strong games, but PE lets me be really annoying.

Heh. I'm good with VG, ok with FL. Cave Goblins are a really interesting difference that I'm messing with. Cloaks are really hit or miss with me.

From my perspective it seemed like you were hitting on an awful lot of those fury rolls :p

1 or 2 turns before the end I realized I had stupidly left you an opening to get a fighter in for a shot at my summoner (who had 2 hits left) like 5 seconds after I made the moves, when I could have easily positioned to block the chance. Thankfully you didn't hit the three roll sequence you needed to kill me. Fun game though. I think the dwarves are the ideal counter to the orcs, with their various wall destruction abilities.

It is a bit counter intuitive but the shaman and smasher actually do more damage consistently than the fighter. With added health they become even better choices. One thing with the Shaman is it should never be attacking a 1 health common unless you really have no other attacks anywhere else. It'll put a dent in champ/summoners or wipe the floor with other 2 health commons, but a 1 health is just a waste.

Ugh, lost (well, forfeited, but I had no chance) a game against Pacman, cloaks vs dwarves. I had myself set up for a great scrapper teleport move to take down Gror, with Vlox as an extra scrapper...except I forgot that the scrapper teleport only works for adjacent attacks, so the teleports I needed didn't trigger. Pretty bummed about that one, I appreciate the fact that Summoner Wars' rules don't tend to be that fiddly so was surprised by that little specification. Oh well, lesson learned. I was drawing terribly that game as well.

I really wish that events cards could be swapped out as well. Event cards that move thieves don't tend to lend themselves to decks without thieves.

I was wondering what happened there Dysplastic. I assume your intended idea was Vlox attack, then teleport a scrapper in to block Gror's path towards Vlox? Still would have worked if that scrapper had hit. Seemed like you were sitting on oodles of magic (I think you were at 10+ the last several turns), and not doing anything with it even when threatened (and perhaps more importantly when your only wall was threatened). I was playing in fear that there was some incredibly cunning supermove you were going to lay down and blow me away with :p

I have yet to see a game where a thief has gotten to use its "get to the last row" power, they seem like a poor unit to have some of your events based on.

The next expansions of the tabletop game are going to be a second summoner for each faction. Each individual summoner has their own event cards, kind of like their individual magic spell books.

I don't feel like I have fully explored the possibilities of what is in the game now, let alone when they will presumably introduce the master set factions at some point. But nonetheless, that sounds awesome!

Well, I only remember the misses. So, so many misses. It's ridiculously satisfying when I get lucky and get a big chain of fury rolls. I managed to hit it four times in a row in another game, taking out two single-hit units and getting two hits on a Summoner. Orc smash!!

I had tons of magic, but wasn't drawing into walls or champions despite building magic regularly. And at the point where you had Gror out, I just would have been feeding you magic if I brought in units to engage him one by one. I needed a good Scrapper setup and thought I had it. You're right about my plan, would possibly have killed him and worst case scenario blocked him. I needed to buy time to draw into better cards, just never made it.

I've gotten the Thief's ability off a few times. Every time I have was when in one turn I could summon the Thief into a position to strike, put Raid on him, and run across the board in one turn. Other than that he is usually way too fragile just hanging out there on the enemy's half of the board.

I've also pulled off the thief a couple of times, but I think the most useful aspect of the thief is to have it be a unit that Vlox can copy. People are more likely to give Vlox a clear path to the other side than a thief, because who doesn't want the opposing summoner knee deep in your own territory? So turn Vlox into a thief, send him deep, hopefully get a ranged attack off, steal a card, and put him back safe and sound behind your wall.

Still, to do that you just need to keep your starting thief safe and sound.

If that is your plan he is pretty easy to keep around. Unless I move him out from behind that wall or kill him myself he is fairly easy to keep safe hidden behind a wall.

don't forget that you can turn Vlox into a thief as well for the purpose of that event. It's actually a great way to get him out of harm's way if you've made a little dash into enemy territory.

edit: dysplastic beat me to it.

Great game right down to the wire drdoak. We both had one health left on our summoners, but with the Vanguard I managed to get off a Summoning Surge event and drop a 3 dice attack out of nowhere right on the fragile one himself, Prince Elien.

I tried every possible combination of moves I could get to protect my summoner, but couldn't get him out of harm's way. I needed another wall draw and did not get one. Oh well.

Natus, I'd be happy to play another game but after my self-immolation this morning, I'm too embarrassed to send an invite. Just let me stew in my humiliation for a bit.

Pro-tip to anyone new to Tundra Orcs - Kring's "wild swing" ability will hit your units, too!

LOL! Well, that was the only way I was going to win that one. Believe me, I've had so many self-inflicted losses in this game. They really should add in a query whether you want to do that, since it would harm your Summoner. Come on, Playdek!

Sent out a round of game center invites. GC ID is ben.rankin.

I should be able to provide a decent level of play, but it sounds like there are some real ringers in the group.

That would be a nice improvement. There are actually occasions where I've attacked my own units (in order to trigger the Fighter's Fury ability) but it would still be nice to have a "uhh...you sure?" window pop up.

I didn't even think about Kring's ability hitting my own Summoner, and I still don't know why I attacked with him first instead of using my Summoner to off yours. I attacked with Kring, and then saw that big red "2" sitting on top of my Summoner, and then realized what I'd done. Talk about a "Doh!" moment.

Wow, that was quite a wild ride Natus. GG.

To set the scene, his Tundra Orcs had my Cloaks on the complete run with his Summoner, some strong units, and one or two Champions leading the charge. Vlox was down to only a few hitpoints, though the Orc Summoner had been whittled down by a some scrapper attacks. On the last turn I managed to draw another scrapper, send him against the Orc Summoner, and used Vlox as a scrapper to seal the deal and spare him from what would have been certain death come next turn.

There were quite a few good rolls required for that to happen. Nerve wracking for me to say the least. Better luck next time!

Ive decided ice orcs are bs after I got 5 attacks off of a 1 cost warrior.

Yes, yes that is full of BS. Those poor goblins.

That was an amazing, amazing ninja finish. I ended my last turn very pleased with myself, having sent a champion and a minion to beat on your Summoner and his bodyguard. My Summoner was by your walls, but he had three wounds left. What could go wrong?

So not only can I not play the Cloaks, but I get filleted by them with ease! Great just great.

@Pacman,

First post on this forum (I also post on QT3)! Just wanted to say hi to Pacman. I'm Thenafter on GC.

Is there any list of GC players for Summoner Wars? I tried looking through the pages but it's hard to see.

If anyone wants to add me for Summoner Wars:

Thenafter

edit: Pacman! nice little endgame there. I never expected anyone to use that charging hero. Next time I won't be so lazy with my summoner
