"In the game of meth, you win or you die!"

Had forgotten the show was just around the corner- thanks!

A reminder. The first half of the final season of Breaking Bad premiers this Sunday. This show has just been getting better and better.

Another way to remind people.

I really hate that the 16 episodes of S5 are pretty much done but AMC wants to milk it so bad that that are doing 8 episodes now and 8 NEXT YEAR.

WTF

Five stars!

Anything that is not Mad Men gets screwed over by AMC. Mad Men is eating up the budgets of the shows even when they are performing well on their own. This is rumored why Frank Darabont left (fired?) Walking Dead.

Like when Mad Men paid 250k for that Beatles song.

Apparently that wasn't AMC's decision, but the result of conflicting contracts with other shows for the time slot. That's according to Bryan Cranston's interview with Alan Sepinwall last year.

Ya really? WTF? If I remember right it was a outro song into the credits. It really didn't add anything to the story. By then most people are flipping channels.

I can not wait till Sunday Although I did not know they were stretching it over two years!

Breaking Bad is a Sony production, so its budget has nothing to do with the budget for Mad Men, which is Lionsgate. The split season thing has been happening for a while now--there's some accounting trickery that justifies filming a large season all at once, then splitting it in half. BSG and The Sopranos both did it, for example. AMC, I'm sure, appreciates having two summers of a big prestige show rather than one. Sucks for us, but I'm not going to complain until after the last episode this year.

Well, it does seem to be the case that Walking Dead got its budget cut for Mad Men's sake...but I'm not going to lie, I consider that far, far less than tragic. But that's for another thread.

How great is it that every problem solved on this show just opens up the next? So very great.

Spoiler:

I forgive you.

This gave me chills.

Seriously. The look on her face said it all.

Just getting into season 2. I gotta say I am not feeling it so far. Perhaps my expectations were too high after reading/hearing all the acclaim for the show. Does it get better?

I love this show.

Spoiler:

Yeah! Magnets, b*tches!

I think the hype is really rooted in the last season (4). It's easily the best thing I have ever seen on TV and season 5 is off to a great start.

Really? I convinced my girlfriend to start watching it last week and she's been engrossed by it.

I still haven't watched the season premiere though (have to wait for her to catch up).

My SO loves it and wants to watch way more of it than I do. In my opinion, the show is way too depressing and Walt makes way too many stupid decisions.

Spoiler:

In season one, where he turns down a high-paying job and free healthcare for his condition. Okaaay. Because cooking meth to raise the funds is such a better idea!

Don't bother, then, because while it's stupid he did that, it's also perfectly in character, and if that's too much to accept, it's not going to be an easy ride for you.

I'm for Mad Men cutting all of Walking Deads budget. ;D

That's what's so compelling about Walt's character. He's a genius in a lot of ways but is ultimately a slave to his pride and arrogance which results in the kind of messed up decisions he makes all too often. He's a flawed individual, and that's what makes the show so interesting!

and the show would be a lot more boring if he had become a chemist/researcher instead of drug kingpin/overall badass.

Walt's character and "evilness" is actually starting to piss me off.

Yeeeah, again, for another thread, but in one hand you have a show that's, depending on the week, the best, second, or third airing right now, and in the other you have...the best zombie show airing right now, by virtue of being the only one. But anyway.

And what's neat about that choice in particular, is that's the last big choice Walt had where there's a credible alternative, other than "Go to jail/Die." Eh, thinking about it, taking Gus' second offer is debatable, but regardless. Horrendous though his acts have been, they're all arguably necessary to his continued existence. He's been trapped by his rejection of the Schwartzes since episode 5.

What was Gus' second offer? my memory is blanking on me.

To actually work in the super lab. Their first deal was buying the 30 pounds they cooked in "4 Days Out." At least as I read events.

For the first time, he's on top. There's no one looming over him, and he's reveling in that. I feel confident that Hank/life/Mike will quickly rise up to slap him back down, but until they do, this is a man who enjoys lording his superiority over others. Remember the scene with Hank showing Walter his rock collection? This is that, just writ large.
