Summoner Wars Catch All

And I just want to mention that I bought the full set today, so some lucky souls here will get invites from me which equal easy wins. I'm NatusM on GC.

Is there any way to see what the racial bonuses are at a glance, in effect what decks do? I just did a short Priest/Goblin match, and there was one attack I made where I scored hits against three separate units (the dice were red and everything), but no wounds were counted. Welcome to the deep end and all that.

So that kind of wound prevention would normally be done as a result of either an event card played by an opponent or a natural ability on one of the units. If it's on the unit, it will be part of the unit's card text (for example the Goblin Slinger's Ability to only hit on 4+). If it's the result of an event, it's a bit trickier - basically, all cards affected by an event (ie something that changes normal game rules) will have a little icon to that effect on the bottom right of the card. It's actually fairly noticeable. You can double tap the card to zoom in, and then tap on the icon (I think) to get an indication of what effect that card is under.

You're right that at this point I should have it in the bag, but I was pretty concerned for a bit as I felt my wall setup was working against me against the meat grinder that you had lined up in the opening. I needed the holy smite to get out of it as my 1-attack dice units were not going to cut it, especially as most of them don't last the turn against your 2-3 attack dice jungle elves.

Yeah, I felt that way too (that you were going to have a hard time working your way out). If I was a little more familiar and thinking about the event cards Vanguards have, I probably wouldn't have used my summoner as aggressively in the opening as I did. I was thinking, hey how much can that one attack priest unit do, and it will block anything else from getting to me, and I can pull him back out after this turn. Then Holy Smite....doh!

It has been a good game though, even if now you are at the mopping up stage.

that's one thing you learn really quickly in this game: there are so many crazy combos in the game that using your summoner offensively at any point in the game, especially crossing midline, is a huge risk.

Despite my odd reluctance to spend money in the app store, I couldn't resist this. Will send out some invites to those looking for games, and I'll welcome anyone else who wants to get a game going. GC handle is BoudreauxOO.

Am also in a fascinating game as the Vanguards against a Jungle Elf Deck where a timely Holy Smite (+2 attack dice for priests) put my opponent on the defensive hard - can't wait to see how that turns out.

I think it is pretty obvious how that is going to turn out unless you get some outrageously bad luck going forward. And that Holy Smite did hit me hard! That plus a few sub-optimal moves on my part and some not great attack rolls have pretty much doomed me. Also the 2 walls you got on your opening turn gave you a great setup to hold off my preferred lioneer blitzing strategy.

Oh, I have a major bug. It crashes every time I hit create game. So if we're not playing, please send me an invite since I can't invite you.

Remove the app and reinstall seems to fix it per the iOS bugs thread on the official forums.

I saw that, trying it when I get home.

Did it work? I'm now encountering this bug too!

It did. Just had to restore my in app purchases and I was good to go.

I ended up with a simpler solution:
Try creating a game vs AI on offline, then exit out of it. Simple as that, it should fix it. Your create game button in online should stop crashing.

I sent out a few more GameCenter friend requests too - TorqGWJ

Not sure what to say about that. I did exactly as you described above, and yet after sacrificing two cards, his summoning cost didn't decrease.

There was a post over on the Plaid hat games about summoning Elut - I'll put it here, along with the Dev response:

I think I've figured out the elut-bal thing...

During your summon phase, he glows blue. You drag him to the battlefield (anywhere, doesn't have to be by a wall). Then the message come up at the bottom "you may discard..." So you do that, and once you have discarded enough cards so that you can afford Elut (could be immediately if you already had 7 magic in your magic pile), then he glows white and you can drag him (ignore the "done" button) next to a wall to summon. That seems to work perfectly every time, and if you understand this process you don't get a bug.

HOWEVER, while you're in discard units mode, whether or not Elut is glowing white, there is a "done" button in the bottom right corner of the screen... If, instead of dragging the white-glowing Elut next to a wall, you hit the "done" button, you revert back to normal summoning, with Elut glowing blue again, and your discarded units gone for good. If you drag Elut back to start the process over, it does not give you credit for those discarded units.

So as far as I can tell, if you ignore the "done" button it works, but the done button mucks up everything. At least, this seems to be the case in offline games where I could test it.

Yes, ignore the Done button. We're going to have to rework the interface, but it probably won't make it in time for he first update. I think there still may be a bug where Elut Bal doesn't highlight in white when you should be able to summon him, bu I need more details before I can track that one down.

Direct Link.

I don't know if that helps.

Man, been trying to make the Jungle Elves work for me and it just isn't happening. Good game drdoak.

What's not working for you? I'm 9-2 with the Jungle Elves so far (according to stats at least, I think that should be 10-3 or 9-3 but the stats seem to be delayed slightly)

For me the key is correctly timed aggression, as they are kind of glass cannons. Lioneers are key, combined with the summoner ability they can give you a very mobile unit with 4 attack. Their events tend to be situational, but at the right time can be very handy (particularly Chant of Haste). Also, throw in some Gorillas from the reinforcements. The idea of the Elephants is appealing, but I haven't found them useful, at least relative to the cost (I'd usually rather go for a lioneer). Their champions aren't amazing, but are again situationally useful.

I get the Jungle Elves in theory, just in practice they don't click with me. I always mistime my pushes, my summons and ended up tossing most of the events to magic. In actual play I just work better with some other factions. But getting to play so many games now has let me refine that so I can focus more on ones I grok better.

Ahahaha I just killed my summoner with the dwarf champ that effects all cards within 2 squares with his attack. I thought a wall would block it. I was wrong wrong wrong.

they had some kind of NCAA bracket-style tournament thingie where fans got to vote on the most powerful champion in the game. Gror (that dwarf champ) won. yes, he's a big pain in the ass.

For those curious, here's the bracket:

I just realized I've been making games with 30 minute timers because I did not see that setting in the middle. My bad, everyone. My bad.

I've done that multiple times and sent request to the same person multiple times in a row before thinking it would reset to open each time.

Hey all,

Just got this game and if you like add me.

Thanks

So Pacman has just been devastating me in the last two games we played. Cosmic ouch! I look forward to more beatings, sir!

Well, I got lucky in the last one to put out Gror, and put both Heroic Feat events on him, so he devastated everything within 2 spaces of him (attack strength 6, I think 5 hit). The cards won't align for that maneuver very often I don't think.

I'm trying out the Vanguards for our new game, which I am much less sure of myself with.

That is exactly what has been happening... Stupid "done" button.

He's about to win in a game with me, I think. I have four different games going on, and I can't get attack die rolls to save my life! I keep moving units into place for attacks, but instead I'm basically just lining up livestock for slaughter. I have a champion with 5 attack in one game, and I have yet to get more than 1 hit with him.

Do you mean Blagog? If so, part of that is that he has the reckless ability so he only hits on rolls of 4 or higher, rather than the usual 3 or higher. So the expected value for an attack is only 2.5 (so slightly less than a normal unit with a 4 strength attack, EV 2.67), and he is prone to more variance.

Also, if you are mostly playing the Tundra Orcs they are probably more roll defendant than other factions as they have so many abilities that activate off rolls. Although I know I have also had those games where it just seems like you can't get a roll to save you life, that can be very frustrating.

They're the first deck I started with, I wanted to play several games and get a feel for them before jumping off into something completely different. They are hugely dependent on rolls, and lately the rolls are not going my way. I just took a turn in my game with Natus, and had four attack rolls. I rolled 1, 1, 1, and 2.

It may be time to try something different.

Totally loving this game so far!

This sort of thing is exactly why I will never play you in a game of Summoner Wars

I also am not digging Jungle Elves so far.

Out damned double post!

Hey now! I assure you that I am not good enough that you should be scared of me, I can just talk a good game

Dysplastic is one move away from beating me for the second game in a row, he's the one you should be scared of

Indeed. I've been rolling Pacman and his scary Jungle Elves. Fear me!
Actually, I've been trying to mix up my faction play a lot to get a feel for them. So far I still find I'm struggling the most with the undead - their units are just too expensive for what they're worth, IMO. All my undead play tends to revolve around getting a surprise Greater Summon out and bringing out hordes at an opportune moment, but it's a bit one dimensional. Trying a new deck with cultists right now.

He's doing a great job whipping me with the JE. It's not over yet, but Sera has one wound left, and there's a really annoying archer that can shoot over units that might end it.

EDIT: Yep. Archer. That was a great game, Pacman! I really enjoyed it!
