Killing Floor Catch-All

Looks fun.

I'm pretty sure they got all their ideas for this content from Strangeblades' diary.

Well, I do love it when the "chicks with two heads" go "Yay! Vomit!" Laughed my ass off at that.

That promo video is everything I want from a KF promo video. Also, new guns! I guess it's time to dust off the chicken suit and work on upgrading the last few classes I've been neglecting.

So a friend of mine randomly gifted this to me. I gave it a try solo tonight. Looks like the game isn't designed for you to survive solo.

But hey, it runs fine on my PC at max resolution on higher detail settings, so that's good!

In any case, my Steam ID is ccesarano in case anyone wants to add me and give it a whirl.

We have a steam group you can join. And I'm pretty sure we have a GWJ killing floor server up.

If you are on a server by yourself (easy or normal server) fewer baddies spawn. Once you get up a couple of levels you can definitely finish by yourself. One good thing about this game is it is not painful to play with pubbies. Everyone is playing against the baddies so there is not much KS crying, ect. Definitely a fun game!

Cool...

...so uh, I'm technically kind of new to Steam. I got the free Portal 2 on it after I bought the game on PS3, and then didn't really touch it until buying Penny Arcade Ep. 3. Then I finally activated my account for being able to interact with the human beings and such.

In other words, how do I find this Steam Group and such?

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/kf_gwj - You need an invite, which I'm sure someone here would provide if you link to your profile.

Mine looks like this: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Hyetal - Yours will have numbers in place of Hyetal, until you set a name for it through the "Edit my Profile" button in your profile.

Invited you to group.

Tried to friend you too but my damn friend list is full again. Time to prune.

The last cut is the deepest.

Speaking of the server, it's been changed to public and has a different name now. However, all of you guys are more than welcome to use it whenever you want. If you do get any riff-raff whilst playing or want to force map/game changes, I've made an admin account with the user/pass: stan/goodjer

So, when you access the console type "adminlogin stan goodjer" without the quotes and you should be able to login.

Good thing to note is that admin status resets with every map change.

A few helpful commands:

admin map KF-mapname
admin set engine.gameinfo gamedifficulty x (Where x can be 1-7; 1=Beginner and 7=Hell on Earth)

The new map, Hellride, is one hell (ugh) of a bummer. Basically a tunnel with two or three narrow passageways to other areas of said tunnel.

New weapons are nice though.

The M99 is a beast! Scrakes and Fleshpounds have a special modifier that reduces crossbow headshot damage. But the M99 doesn't, and as a level 3 Sharpshooter I can take out Scrakes with a single headshot and a Fleshpound with two. It does have its own disadvantages though. It's so heavy that you can't carry anything else and the ammo is very expensive. With the crossbow you can actually pick up your own bolts because they stick into walls and floors so ammo is less of a concern.

I also tried the new pistol. Its comparable to the beretta but it can pierce through a single enemy and hit a second. So it performs quite well. I plan to try the other weapons soon.

I've always been able to decapitate scrakes with a single headshot from the crossbow (Sharpshooter/Normal). Pretty sure I could even do it at level 1. It's the main reason I use Crossbow/Handcannon until the Patriarch.

As level 6 sharpshooter you can single shot Fleshpounds with the M99 on Hard difficulty. Also there is an achievement for 1 shot two kills on two Scrakes. Still trying for that one.

It defaults to friendly fire being off, which is nice. You can still blow *yourself* up though. I suggest avoiding servers with friendly fire on, because they tend to attract griefers.

Bullets seem to pass right through friendlies though. Or at least it did with the M99. Not sure about the others. Explosives however don't, so be careful of people strafing and running in front of you. Happens a lot with people fleeing in panic.

For regular regular servers there is no friendly fire, but you can inflict self-damage from explosions, so be careful with grenades/launchers in crowded areas!

Its not the grenades you have to worry about, its the pipebomb you suddenly remember dropping ... as 4 gorefast charge around the corner.

Boom.

I'm really liking the new pistols. They fill in a niche between the 9mms which are decent but fairly weak. And the bigger pistols like handcannons and magnums. They can hit two targets in a row and they can carry 12 shots each. This makes them easily twice as powerful than the berettas in most cases. Compared to the bigger pistols they can carry far more shots.

The new shotgun is a little strange. It is magazine fed, but pump action. And as an alt-fire you can control the spread of the pellets. Wide angle for groups and tight spread for headshots and single targets. It's a great weapon but according to the wiki it actually has less firepower per-shot. I've found it very difficult to use on tougher enemies like scrakes because of its slow firing speed and the fact that you can't interrupt the reload. With a normal pump action or combat shotgun you can empty what you have and then feed shells individually until it dies. But with a magazine you are stuck reloading this big box and once that is done you still have to contend with the slow firing speed. The AA12 has this problem as well.

I still need to try the new assault rifle and medic gun.

On a side note. When you join a server that has a map you down have the game will download it automatically. Does anyone know where the game stores all that stuff?

Tamren wrote:

Both are very good, dealing a lot of damage very quickly. They're also very accurate at medium range, but they also have relatively small clip sizes. The new medic gun has a lot of recoil if you fire on automatic.

The new pistol is ridiculously good.

Downloaded files (e.g. maps and such) are in the cache directory; the cache.ini file has the filename mappings.

I've started to dual wield the new pistols as my preferred secondary weapon. At only 4 blocks its a lot smaller than most of the other options and packs a lot of punch.

EDIT: I just realized that I'm not seeing the special event model for the fleshpound. They all look like the normal version to me. Anyone else seeing this? I validated files and it found one 4kb file that needed to be redownloaded. Dunno if it was that one though. It dawned on me when I saw the art for it in the main menu.

Hey gang, picked this up in the Steam sale. Can I get an invite to the cool kids KF group?

Okay, I can log in as admin, but I can't change any settings. Am I typing something incorrectly?

EDIT: I managed to change the difficulty, but I messed up and set it to 3. Note: do NOT set difficulty to '3', it breaks the server.

EDIT2: Bleah, server is borked, and I can't reset it. HELP!

Invite sent.

Edit: actually, I'm off for the night, it was fun anyway, pubbies and all.

As it turns out, all the server needed was a restart. Who knew?

Picked this up in the steam sale and played some of it, really good! if there is anyone out there wanting some games, hit me up and we shall destroy... Probably.

Picked this up a long time ago but could never get the coop to work so I forgot about it. are people still playing this? and if theres no one playing on the GWJ server what other kinds of servers are good to look out for if your new to the multiplayer?
