GWJ-ATX 2013: Third Monday Movies

As for July, it'll definitely be one of the last two weekends of the month (7/21 or 7/28).

Excellent. I'm going to be in California all next week, and I need to keep my attendance streak going.

Racing, gaming, and shooting all sound fun.

I also submit a Round Rock Express game as a potential activity.

EDIT: Looking at the Express schedule, they have a home game on 7/21. So, that's an option. They also have home games on 3 Saturdays in August, so if not this month, it's an option for next month too.

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I do enjoy going to the park from time to time, and I like going to minor-league sports in general (all the action, half the crowd, a third of the price!)

Yeah, this month is done for me, all family weekends. Free weekends coming in August.

Probably late to the party, but was catching up on my reader feeds. For the Prometheus group.

Whoa, just discovered this thread!

Just returned from extended vacation so I am back in action on the local Goodjering front. Huzzah and high-fives!

Nice thread...wish there was a Houston one. I'll have to figure out how to search.

That's only a 3hr drive; kinda like mine from DFW.

If the Houstonians knew you existed, maybe there would be!

(There have been in the past, actually. It's been all downhill since Hemi left us and I had kids.)

(Except, I mean, I LOVE my kids, and Hemi's was a good move career-wise.)

(I'll stop talking now.)

I'm really out of steam on this one. 6 months is pretty good for a New Year's resolution, right? Anyone else want to pick this month?

I'm booked solid for July. However, August is soon.

I've decided that this will be the last month that I try to do this on a monthly basis. Moving forward, I will attempt to do this once a quarter. The pseudo-schedule I have in my head looks like this:

  • April - GWJ Family Picnic: The one we did in May was pretty successful but May is really quite hectic for the family. Also, it was pleasant this year but I feel that April has a better chance of not being too hot. This date and the October one are the reasons for the months I picked.
  • July - Most likely this will be a group viewing of whatever the summer blockbuster of the month is for July.
  • October - Based on Koshnika's generous invitation to join his big tailgate bash. It might be September, it might be November, but I'm guessing that October is most likely.
  • January - Still pretty TBD. Perhaps someone will have some ideas come the appropriate time.

If anyone wants to take up the mantle on the "off months," I'll happily keep the OP updated as appropriate.

So what about this month? Well considering what short notice it is, I didn't want pick anything that required any advance planning. Off the top of my head, I came up with the following:

Personally, I prefer one of the bottom three simply because we haven't done those yet. Of those three, I've not yet been to Main Event so that'd be my first choice simply so I could try something new. Still, I'm open to will of the people. What say you?

Additionally, I've penciled this in on my calendar for Saturday night since that's when we've always done it but I'm pretty flexible. Saturday or Sunday? Lunch/afternoon or dinner/evening?

I'll take input for about 48 hours and then nail it down on Wednesday night. Sorry for dragging my feet this month.

January: Go kart month.

Why wait?

All you have to do is step up to the plate. Pick the time and place and I'll (most likely) be there.

I'm up for either of the bottom two.

I will take August. Round Rock Express game, 8/25, unless people prefer one of the earlier Saturdays with home games (8/4 or 8/18). Last month that it's an option (barring postseason I guess) and I definitely want minor league sports included in our activity list. I love the Texas Stars games but I have not been to an Express or Toros game yet.

I'm under a lot of time pressure, so sorry for not reading the whole thread; but is something going on at the end of July in Austin? Cause I think I'm gonna be in Austin for part of ArmadilloCon, and then a writer's retreat starting Sunday, but if something is going on, I will do my level best to at least make an appearance if I'm in town. You'll know it's me by the tiara.

I'd prefer if it were not 8/4. That's the first weekend after the family gets back from their road trip and it'll also be two S&T weekends in a row.

Of the remaining two, 8/18 is vs. OKC so it might be more interesting (Yeah, only slightly but still...) if we can get Boogle to come. There's also a post-game concert if you're into that.

8/24 might be another option if you like fireworks. Here's the promotions schedule.

If you want a chance to get a game-worn jersey, there's a raffle after the 8/25 game. Of course, that's a chance at a jersey versus the guaranteed "bonus" offered on the other two nights but I'm really fine with any of the options.

Like I said, name the time and the place...

We'll be gathering in some fashion this coming weekend, your grace. We haven't decided when or where but here's the pertinent information from the relevant post.

Your input is certainly welcome.

Well considering koshnika has wanted to go there since March, I guess we'll give Main Event a shot.

Like I said, I have never been before and the menu looks more varied and adult than the Austin's Park (and D&B was generally frowned upon by the few with whom I discussed it).

I'm going to stick with the trend of doing this on Saturdays and *Legion* and I are planning on heading there around 5pm (on 7/28 in case that wasn't clear) in order to maximize the All You Can Play special (I have no idea what the asterisks indicate). If you don't have my phone number and want it for coordination purposes, PM me yours and I'll reply with mine.

I going to pass on this month. Have fun ya'll.

I'm sorry guys, I won't be in Austin tomorrow after all. Have fun!

Took the bar in Austin recently and have decided I want to live there. If y'all hear about any lawyer gigs, hook it up (I'm a mid-level IP/complex commercial litigator). Plan to a spend lot of time in Austin greasing wheels, so I hope I can swing the next S&T.

So, I believe we are agreed Austin is racing month.
K1 go kart racing.
If we can get 8 people we get a group rate!

Just so we're clear, I abdicate all official responsibility for August and September (other than updating the OP). It sounds to me like you and *Legion* are going to have to arm wrestle to see what we do this month.

Now my unofficial opinion (i.e. as a simple potential participant) is that, if it's something we want to do, baseball ends in August but racing will still be there in September.

Yes, baseball now, and then Boogle can have 3 straight months of cart racing if he wants.

Deal. Go post the NFL pre-season thread you slacker.

So much for baseball. Does that mean it's time for go-karts? I'm still not officially sponsoring this month so make it happen, folks, and I'll be there... or don't, and I'll just watch football all weekend, every weekend.

I know it's a bit early, but I've learned that I will be in Austin Nov. 1 - 3 (Thur - Sat) on business. Technically my business ends on the afternoon of Friday the 2nd, but I won't be heading back home until the next day. Any chance of scheduling something for that Friday evening?

Your business ever bring you to Houston, my friend?

Chances are, your chances are, awfully good.

Unfortunately, not likely. My job involves almost zero travel. I'm attending the annual users' conference for my company's accounting software in Austin, where the developer is located. However, my wife and I are mulling over trying to get down to College Station for a game this year.

Looking forward to it!
