Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Catch-All

Random pawns won't cost any RC if they're the same level, which most that generate will be.

Here's the facebook evil I saw. I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't be required for some content to unlock. The blog said it was for collecting rift crystals but it looks like there are other ways to get them so we're cool.

There's now an iOS app called Pawns Unleashed that is connected to this game. It requires a Facebook account. Anyone try it out? I'm not quite sure what it does.

Here's a guy's blog post on it.

I downloaded the app, but I never used it. Pawns you hire will likely be in your level range. So Rift Crystals are not a problem.

2) Is that facebook crap required? I initially saw that and didn't take another look at this game (just like GW2 and TSW). If I can ignore what they did, I might look at this but not if it's practically required.

As far as I know all the facebook thing is, is the screen shot thing (witch I've actually used a few times) but thats about it. and theres pre generated pawns that the game has for you to use also. Never been off the network before so I don't know what they're like though.

Facebook integration is only for the posting of screenshots if you want to take any. It's entirely optional.

As for interaction, yes, Capcom has made several pawns built right into the game that don't require you to be online or interact with other people directly. You still only design and create your "main" pawn, and then employ 2 others.

The other 2 you employ do not level or advance in any way, thereby creating the dynamic that you constantly trade them out every few levels to keep it diverse and up to the task at hand.

Online UR is really odd. Each round he has different parts of him wounded. It makes me wonder if my damage is actually contributing or not.

So I've played up until the first town you hit. The game actually hasn't grabbed me like I thought it would yet. I heard it gets more fun so hope to put in more time tonight. I am playing a mage but feel like a wuss. That being said, I'm gonna stick with it and see if I get any cooler

I haven't played a caster, but my main pawn is currently a Sorcerer and you definitely get some cool spells once you level up a bit.
For example:

As a Sorcerer, the meteor-type spell was very awesome.

The meteor spell surprised the crap out of me the first time my pawn cast it. Those are some big meteors.

I definitely thought a dragon had ambushed me the first time.

I rented the ps3 version (they didn't have the 360 in) and I'm quite shocked at how good this is. Who knew capcom could pull something like this off. I might actually buy the 360 version if it's not back in stock soon. (I can't play the ps3, gives me blisters.)

Anyone have any strong opinions on what elemental damage types to favour? So far it still seems like the majority of enemies are weak to fire, and lightning is pretty good too. I haven't run into a fight yet where I felt like I specifically needed cold, dark, or holy damage. Does fire ever stop being awesome?

Fire and holy, in my experience. I'm sure there are enemies weak to ice and dark, but I don't know 'em, and I made it through okay without.

Lightning was only ever super good against cyclopes, but it makes a fine general magic as well.

There is one good use-case for ice, though. The trajectory for some of the higher level spells shoots the ice straight up from the ground, which works well with dragons because of their weak point position.

Currently Gadwin is equipped with Fire and Lightning and imbues Fire and Ice. Guess I should switch it to Fire and Holy for both?

In the post game you want to use anything but fire. There are still enemies that are weak to it, but some of the more annoying ones like fire.

Keep in mind that fire is excellent up until the post game. Although ice weapons are pretty good stat wise and they potentially freeze enemies.

Yeah, forgot about those two sorts of bastards. Hrm.

Well, hopefully your pawns will be smart enough not to use fire on them.

Well, Gadwin kept hitting lightning on some ghosts and restoring their health instead of fireballing them, so I wouldn't count on that.

So I bought this Tuesday and am loving every bit of it. I fought three Ogres last night, damn those guys are rough. Anyone playing on PS3 please friend me up.

Also a question...

Spoiler:

After you fight the Hydra they mention that the girl from the start of the game is missing or something and that you should find her. However I never got a quest for this. I went back to the starting town after going to the capitol, but didn't see anymore about her. What's the deal?

Spoiler:

That quest has a really annoying time limit on it. If you don't do it BEFORE you accompany the wagon to the capital it is auto-failed and a chunk of side quests are cut off for you.

Don't sweat it too much though. It happened to me too, and I suspect it probably happens to MANY players on their first pass through the story. It is one of several things in the game that I almost suspect were intentionally designed to be easily missed in order to encourage a second play though.

Spoiler:

Just go back to town and someone will approach you or talk to you about it.

I missed that quest too.

Spoiler:

Poor what's-her-name, she's probably lying dead in the woods somewhere.

I only ever bother equipping Holy for the post-game. Seems like everything there is weak to it.

Picked this up over the weekend and started sinking some time into it. Really loving it so far! Combat is fun (if not a bit frenetic) and I love the skills for my strider-turned-magick archer. Sent out a bunch of friends requests, too, so I could check out pawns.

Is there any reason to not pick a friend's pawn if they are significantly higher level than I am? I don't want the game to be a cakewalk, so I've been searching for pawns around my level. It's surprisingly fun to browse all the pawns out there and find the ones you want to fill out your party.

Has anyone figured out why sometimes your pawn goes adventuring and comes back with a few items and very little RC and no mention of who they were with? I almost feel like it's just the game pretending people like your pawn so you don't feel bad.

You know I've always wondered that myself. No idea whats up with that.

It is the game faking it. I've not connected my xbox to a network in like a year and only then because it required me to do so for some update or crap and yet my pawn keeps returning with stuff and rc as if someone was using her. I feel cheated.

Edit: Small correction. My pawn just returned with 98 rc, effectively doubling what I had.

I've made my character a small boy, and his pawn is a little girl. The looks that story NPCs give in the early game can really seem inappropriate when they stare at a little kid with a huge grin on their face.

Spoiler:

Things are going to get so ridiculously creepy once the queen starts hitting on me.

She kinda looks like a little girl too, though.

yeah...makes ya wonder about the duke. speaking about the duke...

[spoiler]whats up with scene where the duke strangles the queen while screaming LENORE over and over? is there some quest that I missed that explains it or something? because really...weirdest part of the game by far.
