Eh - I'm sorry for bringing out the fanboy ammunition. I've had my own nasty issue with Xbox Live, which has made me more opinionated about this issue.
Well I too enjoyed my free month of PS+. Especially the part where I could backup save games that you normally can't, like Rock Band 3, or RB Beatles. Still not sure why that's locked out but at least it's better than the Wii titles with the same problem: SSBB, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing. Some option is better than none.
The new watch ads things was just launched on GamersGate, (we have a thread around here somewhere) where you watch 1 min of ads when starting up a game, but the game is totally free. Might be interesting if multiple companies are pursuing the same idea.
I imagine they're looking at the mobile market where tons of things are free, with an ad between levels or something, and people eat it up.
Sony may be updating PS+ for E3, according to Eurogamer.
Also, several game which have been free for a while are now expiring as of next week. If you are a member, you should check out the "Last Chance section and make sure you got anything you are interested in.
Does anyone know the total for a 3 month PS+ sub with taxes in Canada?
I have 50 cents in my PSN wallet, so I'm going to have to buy another PSN card. Will the $20 be enough?
Rumor has it that there will be big bonuses for existing customers at E3 tomorrow, so if at all on the fence people should consider a 3 month sub at minimum.

Also, not surprising, Vita to be included as well. Wonder if they'll go multiple pay tiers. It was an option in one or two of their surveys, I believe.
So here are the games we get, apparently all today:
Virtua Fighter 5
inFAMOUS 2
Little Big Planet 2
Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
Just Cause 2
Saints Row 2
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Hard Corp: Uprising
Choplifter HD
Zombie Apocalypse Never Die Alone
Sideway NY
That's a pretty nice list of freebies. I was going to get VF5 anyway, so having it free makes me very happy. Also excited to have inFamous 2 and Warhammer, both games that I played but never finished. I do think people will be frustrated that they just offered a big sale on inFamous and Just Cause 2, only to offer them free a week or two later. Granted the sale also included all the DLC but still, I'm sure that will rub some the wrong way.
Hopefully the Vita stuff will begin soon - that'll be what gets my subscription

Can someone link me to the info on this? Is it only for existing PS+ customers?

It's for all subscribers, so sign up now and you'll be able to grab those. I'm assuming they will only be available for free for a limited time (2-4 weeks) as is everything else on PS+, but they don't actually specify that.
I did want to play infamous 2. Guess that would be worth a month fee. And could backup my rock band 3 save again.
Remember that a lot of this stuff is only free as long as you have a subscription. I think. I don't know of anyone that ended their subscription and was then unable to play all them games. I just remember this was the original deal.
I'm really torn on this, mostly because I just don't play a lot of games lately. The fact that the games expire when I stop subscribing makes me wonder if it's worth it. I guess almost anything is worth 4 bucks a month.
Too bad I already own a bunch of those games.
I'm starting to wonder if a discomfort with notions of material ownership and their clashing with digital distribution (a discomfort I share) might help us shed our habits of ownership and the contingent compromises. How many books do we buy at least partially on the premise that we want to own a physical good, to be able to revisit the glory, only to never read them a second time--if we even manage to read them at all? ComiXology is a neat idea, but my local comic-shop owner wonders how you'll hand down a digital comic to your kids or grandkids. I know our culture is carried on the dust motes of our belongings, as totems and symbols of what was, but what are we losing if we have fewer of these artifacts? What if the only artifacts we have are the ones we make ourselves?
That's a stretch and an unintentional straw man, and maybe this deserves another thread if anyone's interested in discussing it, but the value of PS+ is derived--at least in-part--from our notions of material goods and their worth. Maybe it's okay if I don't keep a game I received for free with my subscription: I ostensibly played it, or had the opportunity, and I'm saved from the chore of carting around a case and a disk.
On that note, I find I'm less and less compelled to get Blu-Rays, even though I collected many DVDs in the day. It may be a sign of getting older, or due to the fact that we have more options, but I honestly feel I don't need more physical stuff. I'm also the type to buy games and then sell them to get new ones. I'm not working on building a physical game collection (except for a few, and even that small collection feels foolish somehow).
I'm a little disappointed about Just Cause, since I bought it this week. It is still a great game, and I had forgotten how beautiful it is. If you haven't played it, it is a must download.
I'm downloading Ratchet and Clank to play with my kids, and I'll probably give Space Marines a shot. I also haven't played Tomb Raider, and I heard great things about that game.
$18 for 3 months or $50 a year
Tagging, got myself a PS3 (first one). But it's in the mail as we speak..
How much is the PS+ btw? I plan on buying cards.
EDIT, found it on the website.
Get 3 months of Plus for $17.99.Get a year of Plus for $49.99.
Wondering what is the price in Canada tho.. if it is the same.
I got a three month sub on Sunday night, and I'm so glad that I did. Stranger's Wrath HD is worth the price of admission; LBP2, Virtua Fighter, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Awesomenauts and Sky Fighters are just gravy. All for £12! I know that I will need to re-up to keep access to them, but I won't need to buy another game for 3 months.

Not sure if this is common knowledge but you also don't lose anything if you let your subscription lapse and then resubscribe. It's all saved for whenever you do re-up. All in all I'm really impressed with PS+.
The title of this thread makes me think its a support group.

Definitely not common knowledge. I had assumed it was only for the duration of the current subscription. That's good to know.

I just re-upped after my free month we all got a while back. I was able to re-download the Duels of the Planeswalkers game and play it with no issues.
Yeah, I'm actually a bit jealous of Europe getting Stranger's Wrath HD.
I want.
One other thing about PS+ The 1-hour free game trials remain available and unlocked until you play them for 1 year after downloading (I think that's how it works) as I DL'ed one and it just sat there saying ready / expires on June 2012 since I never loaded it. I should have tried to actually play it, but I just deleted it. I think I did play one other shortly after my 1 month time ended last year.
Yeah, I'm already on record for loving PS+, and the bevvy of free games released makes me very, very happy. But, I feel like an idiot for buying both Just Cause 2 and Infamous 2 in the Ultimate bundle sale last week. Now that they're free, I basically paid $35 for $15 worth of DLC.
I don't like it either, but those people do have copy as long Sony supports PSN titles from other gen consoles, and they got to play for some weeks.
Also, totally in for Beyond(!). Despite some roughness, Heavy Rain is a most worthwhile experience. Also, what's not to love with Ellen Page?
Also, what's not to love with Ellen Page?
Well, X-Men 3, but that's the only one that stands out as irredeemable.
Moving from the other PS Plus thread...
tuffalo, my words of wisdom to you are this: Go into the store and "buy" all the free games. You don't have to download them right this minute, but if you "buy" them it'll be in your Download List (in Account Management) and you can go back and download them at a later time, like, say, in 5 months when they're no longer free.
Thanks! That's a good idea. I sorta ended up doing that anyways for whatever reason. I'll have to make a point to specifically do that whenever anything good shows up. All the free themes are nice. It looks like there are some really cool, artistic ones for purchase too. I hadn't looked at that stuff in years ever since my fatty PS3s died.
Geez, I always forget how long it takes to install stuff. LBP 2 looks like it's gonna take at least 30 minutes to install. I remember Red Dead Redemption took quite awhile. Also, I wish I had a bigger hard drive in mine. I only have the 160 GB model and I'm already hitting the limit with the addition of these PS Plus games. Ah well, can't complain. Really happy with the PS Plus purchase so far. So many new games to play!
Does anybody know how to check how long your membership runs to?
