Post GWJ Fantasy Draft Smack Talk and Trades

Pages

Well, the Live draft ended up going really well and I'm sure those of you who couldn't make it will *cough* enjoy the picks Yahoo made for you. With 20 teams in the draft it made for some real bargain bin picks near the end. I think almost everyone is going to have some holes in their line-ups that they will want to shore up as soon as possible. That means trading!

And now, the super sexy, highly trained and talented players in Certs Fresh!

D McNabb - QB Phi
J. Delhomme - QB Car

I'm pretty happy with these two, I wish we could have two QB's playing per week, instead I'll have to make some tough decisions every week on which guy to play. McNabb will probably start week one against Johnny's Team Republican.

J. Walker - WR GB
D. Givens - WR NE
J. Gage - WR Chi
B. Engram - WR Sea
J. Jurevecius - WR TB
A. Hakim - WR Den

Most any trade I make will be to shore up what looks to be a fairly long list of middling wide receivers. I kind of sacrificed them for some stronger picks elsewhere.

C. Dillon -RB NE
E. George - RB Dal
D. Levens - RB Phi
L. Toefield - RB

Dillon and George are both solid running backs but I've got concerns that Dillon will only have a middling year with the sneaky Patriots offense and George will not be the only decent RB on his new Cowboys team. Parcells has already said they want to have all three running backs out there every game playing so it's going to hurt George's carries I think.

D. Graham - TE NE
S. Alexander - TE Det

Well, they're tight ends. Yep.

A. Venatieri - K NE
J. Chandler - K Jac

I like Venatieri, I don't like the fact I have quite a few guys from New England but that's just how it went!

Dallas - Def

I only have one Defense team since we ran out before I could grab a second one. I picked Dallas fairly early and I'm hoping they put up some good numbers. In a 20 team league every little bit helps!

Soooo.... who has some stud WR's they want to trade?

Wr''s? What the hell are those? My wide receiver list consists of some starting rookies, some guys that might not make the teams and a guy on IR!

Add to that NO defense who will probably give up 578 points in the month of December as usual.

The suckage of a 20 man league! I can only hope that most faired the same way in the latter rounds when the pickings were slim!

Well I seem to have pre-ranked WR''s a little high as I have ended up with 3 good starters:

Randy Moss - Min
Eric Moulds - Buf
Darrell Jackson - Sea

Unfortunately I''m very light on quality RB''s with Tiki Barber as my only regular starter and even he will probably split a lot of play with Ron Dayne.

So I''m looking for a RB if anybody needs to dip into a decent WR (your RB''s are looking very shaky Certis, so I''ll probably pass on those).

At least I got a good kicker (Mare), and a good defense (Miami), Go Dolphins!

Ahh, you kids and your naive drafting of QB''s in a league that only awards one point per fifty yards passing. And the elimination of the WR/RB position in favor of a third WR position proved that receivers are almost as much a commodity as running backs. My duo of TO and Rod Smith ought to do nicely. Muhahaha, gentlemen. Muhahaha.

Hmm..that position is JUST WR? Didn''t notice that before.

I think I''ll just start 3 rookies for WR''s since I don''t see a nary a good player in the whole waiver wire.

But as usual, when the season starts, some players will bust out of the woodwork from nowhere.

Did you use a draft cheat sheet prepared by AARP, or what?

OK, anyone looking to upgrade in the TE position, or needing a solid receiver or a good backup WR or QB, let me know. I am interested in letting some of my studs, including Shockey, out to the trading block. I''m looking for a quality RB in return though. Serious applicants only may apply.

And you know I''m all about the serious.

Seriously.

Actually now that I''m looking at others teams, it looks like I did not do too bad.

Ouch!

What, because I chose Rod Smith? He''s a healthy and active contributor to his team. Fear not though, I''ve some young studs in my stable as well. Take, for instance, Steven Jackson. The day that Faulk forgets to drink his Boost shake before the game, he''ll come in and tear it up and win the starting job.

Jackson is an awesome pick! I had him high on my auto list also.

Faulk won''t last far into the season most likely. (Will that come back to haunt me? hehe)

Sorry I missed it. Had a friend come in unannounced yesterday. Running from Frances, you know the drill.

I got Culpepper, Horn and Boo Williams, but my RB''s make me want to cry.

I was kind of horrified to see that I had auto-drafted Faulk when I jumped into the draft late... I''m hoping he lasts the year.

Wait, so it''s not the same as last year? With only one QB starting each game it damn well should be.

Any post draft scoring changes should be voted upon if they''re going to be considered.

Hmm..I have Warner and Mccown as backups. If I want any points from them, I vote we change passing yards to 5 yards=1 pt!

While I think with such a big league and the fact that we only get one QB on the field passing yards should matter more I made the mistake of assuming last year''s fantasy draft was default Yahoo settings. It wasn''t! My fault for not reading the small print I guess. I would have taken a stud WR instead of McNabb early on, that''s for sure.

I''m open to a vote on the issue.

No vote, no vote! I specifically drafted Vick because of his running abilities since passing is only 50/1. Certis, you should be good with McNabb, it''s not like you got Mark Brunell or someone who just stands in the pocket. Now, to borrow your format:

M. Vick - QB Atl
D. Bledsoe - QB Buf

Had to pick Vick with the 1st pick of the second round since I didn''t know what would be left at QB by the time it got back to me. I think Bledsoe is a good backup from the 6-7 round in case Vick gets hurt, especially if he can put up another 4,000+ yard season.

R. Johnson RB Cin
L. Suggs RB Clev
M. Smith RB Bal
Z. Crockett RB Oak

I was planning to take a back with my first pick of course, but unfortunately I was the last pick in the draft, so I took Rudi and then backed him up with Suggs. One of those two is going to have a pretty good year, they both could go for over 1,500 each. Musa Smith I thought was worth a pick in the 9-10th IIRC, if Jamal goes down with injury because of the massive carries or with handcuffs because of the massive drugs, Smith will probably average 100+ a game.

C. Rogers WR Det
D. Driver WR GB
I. Hilliard WR NYG
J. Reed WR Buf
N. Poole WR Ari

Nobody huge there, but some consistent performers like Ike and Driver. Rogers should have a great year up in Detroit so I think decent picks.

Da. Clark TE Ind
M. Schobel TE Cin
K. Brown K Hou
M. Bryant K Dal

Decent TEs, no Heaps or Gonzos, but ok. I think Clark will get more catches this year with the new 5 yard emphasis.

Tampa Bay DEF
Cincinnati DEF

I wanted to get Baltimore or NE, but somebody crazy took BLT in like the 2nd round. Tampa Bay should be good though. Cincinnati as backup in a late round is a good pick I think with Marvin Lewis as coach in the 2nd year and in a weak offensive division.

Overall I think a solid draft for me, no ""top 3"" at any position really except Vick, but pretty decent overall, I think I''ll have consistent numbers week-to-week barring any crazy injuries.

Well of course I will vote ""no"" on a rules change for passing yards/point, because I based a large chunk of my draft strategy around it. Of course, that was knowing full well that lots of people wouldn''t look at the scoring system prior to formulating their strategy. I don''t think the lack of information due to assumption should be any reason to reconsider the rules of the league.

Gotta agree with bagga. Ignorance of the law (even if I''m suffering from it) is no excuse. Damn, I''m glad I got Culpepper instead of Manning!

Well I couldn''t attend the draft unfortunately but thanks to my superb pre-ranking ability I was able to field a pretty decent team i think. Also I will mention I don''t think there should be any rule changes now that we have drafted even with a vote. Now on to my team analysis.

QB - Jeff Garcia - Not too bad not too great I like Jeff but his recent back problems have me a bit worried.
QB - Kerry Collins - I''m pretty excited about having him on my bench as I think he will take over for Gannon sooner rather than later.

RB - Kevaan Barlow - I purposely overrated this guy a lot because I wanted him with my first round pick and I got him so that makes me happy.
RB - Domanick Davis - I had this guy rated right below Barlow I can''t believe I got these two guys with the position I was picking in. Needless to say i''m pretty excited they both had over 1000 yards last year despite not starting at the beginning of the season.

WR - Jerrry Porter - I think this will be a breakout year for Porter as Tim Brown has finally been let go.
WR - Peerless Price - Hopefully he will return to his 2002 form with a healthy Vick.
WR - Jerry Rice - Hey he''s the best reciever to ever play the game and he''s my third wide out i can''t complain.
WR - Kassim Osgood - Being a Charger fan i''m pretty happy to have this guy on my bench and think he could be a starter for the bolts.
WR - Curtus Conway - Not a bad guy to have on the bench when he played here in SD he was great i''ve never seen a reciever play with more heart.

TE - Erron Kinney - I''ve never heard of him but he seems to be projected as Tenesee''s starting TE so that''s good.

Def - Jacksonville - A darn goo defense based on last years stats, their two new defensive ends give me a bit to worry about though.
Def - Indianapolis - Tony Dungy coaches them need I say more?

K - Jason Hanson - He was one of the kickers I wanted so I can''t complain.

Quick question about league scoring. Are all special teams stats accredited to the player who say gets a big return or are they given to the teams defense?

Wow I just spend a good hour or so looking at backup of backups and most of those guys are taken also.

Hopefully ''parity'' is involved in our league also!

I wanted to get Baltimore or NE, but somebody crazy took BLT in like the 2nd round.

I resemble that remark. Gonzo going in the second round scared me...if you are looking for justification.

I believe special teams stats are given to the team D, so maybe KC defense isn''t so bad after all

I had a dinner thing last night so I couldn''t make it. I guess I should log on and check out the great picks Yahoo made for me.

Dammit, I just noticed Torq''s got Moss. Oh well... here''s to hoping Culpepper scrambles for some yards in the first game.

To me your team looks like one of the better ones on paper. Oh and I have Kerry Collins if you want to trade for a little insurance

On paper, it actually does look pretty good. I kind of resent it drafting the Arizona Cardinal defense, though. I somehow doubt that the Eagles D would ever get bad enough for me to want to sub in Arizona. And Rich Gannon?

Two words, my no-show friend :

DANTE HALL

I got points for his returns last year, and with the ionjuries to Morton and Boeringher, He will get allot more touches on O.

I am a freaking GENIUS!

Check the League page I''m advertising for West Division Owners interesting in trading to cover kicker and defense byes.

@Certis, can''t we make a deal on this? We''re soooo close!
