Steam Summer Sale 2012 Gift-All

By Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings!

Why is this not the name of the game deals thread?

Yeah, it's a good game.... as I've said repeatedly, it's not quite AAA, but it's a really solid A. I'd call it somewhat inferior to Bulletstorm, but both are good shooters with unusual settings that didn't sell very well.

I'd say it's honestly worth about $15, as it's not enormously long, but it is a fun ride. If you can get it for less, grab it.

I'm just hoping Deus Ex doesn't get cheaper than the 75% off it just hit with the weekend sale. Where I just bought it. That would be (how you say) embarassing.

Since it *just* dropped I doubt it will see much bargain-ing, but if anyone's been wondering about Duel of the Planeswalkers 2013, it's really really really great. I haven't played since the first incarnation and it's an enormous step up.

If you look at last year, the things that have recently gone on sale, will go back on sale for the same discount. I think you're safe.

This sale will be dangerous.

Steam sales are becoming legendary. Those of you who play Kingdom of Loathing may have caught this little joke. (Note the last line.)

Nice catch. I hadn't seen that combat text yet. They're pretty good fans of Valve having previously referenced the value of The Orange Box among other things.

If I have the games, I'll do the achievement chase, but I won't be buying anything just for the contest. If it's something I have been wanting, on the other hand, and the sale's good enough...

I think I'll be looking to pick up some indie titles. Lately I've been hankering for some artsy narrative experiences. Maybe some adventure games. In any event, I always enjoy the meta-game of building my Steam library. Plus according to my Steam stats, I've played at least 65% of the games in my library. In the last 35%, I reckon 10% are games that I wouldn't ever play because they are base games with expansions (e.g. Civ IV). That leaves something like 25% on the "have not played ever" pile, which I think means I'm doing pretty well. Then again, like Malor, I have pretty much everything I want at this stage so I'm not going to be as enthusiastic this year as I have been in the past. It's always nice to see people picking up games like Vampire: Bloodlines or Bulletstorm. They're in for such a nice treat

Oh, and this is quite unlikely, but if Gods and Kings goes into steep discount (60%+) I might pick it up as well.

You might have better like with GMG; I wouldn't be shocked if they have a similar sale coming up as well.

Pile be damned! If one of the games on my wishlist goes down -75% or more, I'm getting it!

Otherwise I feel pretty safe this time around...

That sounds like an idea. Fix up my wishlist and don't buy stuff that isn't on it.

Yeah that'll never work.

You obviously don't remember how many games I bought during the winter sale.

One. :p

Singularity? Inferior to Bulletstorm?

Cripes, you PC guys...

Wait, I thought console guys would have preferred Bulletstorm to Singularity? I thought the pacing in Bulletstorm lent itself better to consoles.

There are a lot of rumors that it won't start until July 12th, but I guess we shall see.

Steam list currently stands at 2 games unplayed (AI War and Hearts of Iron) with three games in progress (Magicka, Metro 2033, Psychonauts). I need some stuff to get me to Christmas.

Some of the biggest things I am looking for:

War in the North-I think it will hit $5 due to the not so awesome reviews and the fact that it is already $20 base price. As a gigantic fan of anything LOTR, I figure no matter how bad the game is it is worth it for $5.
Witcher 2 - Will bite at $10, played a solid amount of the first one and liked it but never finished it. I have been on a big RPG kick lately with beating KOTOR and now working on Dragon Age (both second playthroughs) and this seems to be THE RPG of 2011 (at least of the ones set outside Tamriel).
ARMA 2 OA - DayZ.
Fallout New Vegas - Enjoyed Fallout 3 and never really gave this one a chance (half hearted playing on the 360 not included), so I think for possibly a $10 for the Ultimate edition it would be worth it.

Of course I'm sure I will bite on other things, I generally do and in the past some of them have turned out to be awesome.

I prefer fun games to not fun. That's all. I played about fifteen minutes of Bulletstorm and that was quite enough.

Shame that People Can Fly forgot how to make guns feel good after the Painkiller games.

That was trolly of me, but I strongly feel the same as Nicholaas on the last page. Singularity is a better Bioshock, I feel. Underrated and under-appreciated.

This will be my first Steam sale with a dedicated gaming PC as opposed to the low-end stuff that will only play old and/or "small" games that I am usually restricted to. I'm looking forward to it.

However, there are only a few titles I'm actually specifically looking for a sale on. (Specifically Crusader Kings & Kingdoms of Amalur) My plate is also quite full right now with Civ V:Gods and Kings and Diablo 3 so there is little NEED to buy anything.

:O

The drill in Bulletstorm was once of the greatest guns of all time! OF ALL TIME! /Kanye

15 minutes wouldn't be enough to see the wonders of the quadruple barrel shotgun, or the guided sniper rifle... or the flailgun!

Granted, the starter assault rifle was boring, but it served as a nice anchor compared to the other weapons.

I more meant the shooting model's feel, rather than specific guns. It felt too loose and all the kicking, chaining, etc. was just not a convincing gameplay hook. You'd honestly have to pay me to play it again.

I'd apologize for the derail but this thread can't really be on-topic til the sale starts

Maybe it is a PC game at heart then. I personally felt like Bioshock and Singularity had pretty weak shooting mechanics. To each his own.

I need to make my list then, I suppose. Hmph.

Obviously these are all "if they have considerable discounts":

Demigod
Skyrim
Dead Island?
Deus Ex: Human Resources (it'll come up again in the sale, right? It's been an expensive month)
Sid Meier's Pirates
M&B: Warband
Metro 2033
Civ 5
Left 4 Dead 2 (if it goes very cheap. Which it will.)
Bulletstorm
Singularity
Saints Row 3
Splinter Cell: Conviction

And I won't play a f*cking one of them.

Oh well fair enough then, I agree with you to a certain extent, the guns felt very... floaty I suppose, for lack of a better word. It didn't bother me too much though, as honestly, it seems like very few games these days manage to convey a sense of power for the device you're holding in your hands. It's my one nod to nostalgia, where I think we did things better in the past.

I mean, go back to Doom 2, when you fired the double-barrel shotgun in that thing, you knew you were firing something made for killing things. The chaingun in the original Starsiege Tribes sounded like something that could bring down a starship (I've been desperately trying to find a soundclip of that in recent times, but have had no luck, so it might be rose-coloured glasses there a bit). The railgun in Quake 2 (and 3 to a lesser degree) was pretty neat too.

I feel like sound plays a big part of that, I can't remember the last gun that had a truly memorable report. The SV98 in Bad Company 2 of all things is probably the closest, had a nice snap to it.

Dude, it's not even out yet. They aren't going to discount that from $20 to $5!

I think I need to update my wish list and only check in periodically for this one.

I've been away from consoles, focussing on iOS games for the last month. Last thing I need is to be drawn into PC/Mac gaming in a moment of weakness.

The last Humble Indie Bundle was great, so I may have a tally reached my quota for games at the moment (famous last words).

They'll release it... if they know what's good for 'em.

Wishlist time! I've become increasingly "scroogey" over the sales, so bear with me.

15 Dolla
Skyrim (not likely, but still possible)

10 Dolla
Saint's Row: The Third
Dead Island
The Darkness 2
Batman: Arkham City
Crysis 2 ME

5 Dolla
Alan Wake
F.3.A.R.
RAGE
Legend of Grimrock
Torchlight 2
Lost Planet 2

I guess it's a good thing that I'm broke and have $3 in the bank xD

Buy a loaf of bread, and eat for a day. Get a great bargain on Steam and play through that hunger (or something like that).

It's pretty much what I've been doing for the last 2 months anyway lol! xD I really hope there isn't anything I really, really want.
