Thursday release is weird.
It's not really the type of game that needs to avoid the Civ expansion. I don't see anything else advertised in the banner that's in direct competition. Is it coming out on PS3 and 360? Maybe it has something to do with that.

Yes, and there's no release date for the console version for some unknown reason.
I'm sad I'll be staying at Demyx's recovering from ankle surgery and won't get to play it until next week
Has there been anything said about how big the game is? I don't particularly want to get into a 'hours per dollar' debate, but it would be nice to know vaguely what to expect.

1.75 GB according to Steam. 6 hours or less seems like a fair assumption given the install size and price.
So in the intro/tutorial you're instructed fairly early to "jump around a bit." I did so and got stuck between some couches... now have to start over. Oi! :9

Nice, I had to restart Steam to get it out of preorder status, but I'm downloading it now. I want to play it on my bus ride home from work. Brought my controller today.
RPS seem to be saying it's lacking a certain something to make it a joy to play, all the little problems get under your skin.

Yeah, I just read their review. I guess I'll pass for now.

Adding RPS review summary for those who don't want to go find it.
Quantum Conundrum is, then, that most maddening, saddening breed of videogame – the Almost Game. A solid kernel of admirable intelligence and inventiveness is orbited by misfiring tone, ill-suited twitch challenge and seeming arbitrary design decisions that block organic, euphoric player experimentation in favour of unyielding square hole, square peg solutions. I can see the game it wants to be, the game it’s trying to be, the game it almost is. And that upsets me dearly, as sailing close to greatness but falling at critical hurdles always does. I come here neither to praise Quantum Conundrum or to bury it, but to lament that it couldn’t leap that small but vital gulf between competence and brilliance.
Also possibly worth noting, Ryan ragequit during the quick look due to forced, twitchy platforming.
Oh, it makes me really sad that twitch platforming is a requirement for this game. Portal (1&2) got it really right by making the puzzles front and center -- if you knew how to solve a problem, you could usually do it first or second try. I guess that's not the case here?
Yep, after a couple hours I have to say I am disappointed in it. Lots of platforming, timing, and other annoyances that take away from what could have been a great puzzle game.
And yeah, that part where the video above ends? Yeah, I just about quit then too. Was very frustrating.
Seems to have frame rate issues (dues to loading content in the background I think) and possibly a FoV issue... I find myself getting headaches from the game as I play it.
I really don't want to say "This is Kim Swift's Portal2", but I get the impression this is where Valve's advantage of deep pockets and endless polish really show through, and for a game of this sort you really need it. I can see the appeal of making those kind of puzzles and challenges, and there were some people that didn't like where Portal went in it's sequel, but despite having one of the Narbacular Drop co-creators, there's that certain element missing. I know that's probably being unfair to one or more parties, Valve, Airtight or Swift, but it's what seems to be the case to me.
The concept of forced platforming in what is basically a platformer is funny to me. I've had fun with it so far.
I'm either too much of a Valve fan-boy (hint: I am), or I'm not that familiar with the entire roster of physics-based puzzle games.
Meaning, I see too much Portal in QC.Use boxes to solve a level: Companion Cubes.
Play with the properties of physics: Portals and Gels.Granted, if you're developing a game around physics, the only way you can pretty much go is to play with physics: momentum, gravity, speed, mass, etc.
But then there's these two other points:
The cloning machine has a name and hints at human traits: Glados.
Entire house is a lab: Aperture Science.Am I going out of my way to find fault in this game?
Never play more than one match-three game. Your brain will melt.

Only watched the QL, but yeah the FoV seems very low.

Wow, whoever that is really stinks at games... I couldn't watch past the chair laser part. He needs more patience.
Playing it on the bus right now. Holy crap, the game changes the led colors on my Alienware laptop when you load the game and as you switch dimensions. Never had a game do that. So cool! Love what I've played so far.

Heh, as soon as I read that it had twitch platforming, I got about 10X more excited for the game. I really missed those twitchier challenges that were omitted from Portal 2.
Way more interested in this now that I see it's $15 and not $60. Looking forward to the XBLA trial.
I've made it through the 1st part (about 20% complete). It's not difficult at all so far but very relaxing and enjoyable. I am switching to my desktop PC so that I can use M/K for more accuracy. It should make things a bit more easy for the twitchy stuff.
I've played about an hour twenty so far and I haven't gotten too frustrated at the platforming. I think it's a pretty charming game, thus far.
I love the slow time mechanic! It's really satisfying.
Edit: Changed slow-mo to left shift and reverse gravity to r. That should make it easier instead of having it as 3 and 1.

Yeah, slo-mo is awesome. I've found myself using it even when I don't need to. I remapped 1 and 3 to my mouse thumb buttons. That was probably a bad decision on their part.

Yeah, first thing I did was change those buttons. Course they are all on my many button mouse.
It's a charming game, and fun most of the time. There have been a few sections I have found frustrating. Just not what I was expecting. Really not a fan of first-person platforming.
I've made it through maybe 1/3 of the reverse gravity area, so I'm pretty close to the end. It's great as far as I'm concerned, and I'm having a blast. I'm not sure what all the complaints were about for a $15 game. People's expectations must have been a bit too high.
If anybody gets to the "Beginning of the End" puzzle and figures out the room with the big rotating thing, let me know. I stared at the room for like 20 minutes and could not figure out what to do.
By the way, for people wondering how long it is, I'm at exactly six hours and pretty sure I'm almost done. I'm either on the last map or the second to the last map. Can't really believe I spent six hours playing it today.
Looks like it took me just under 5 hours to finish it up.

Use the reverse gravity to keep the safe on the tractor belt as it spins around. Once it's off the rotating thing on the same side as you, jump on the safe and reverse gravity to get on tractor belt when it's near the top of the rotating thing. Slow time and run across to the platform.

Because it's a game from one of the designers of Portal with a similar setup. The expectation is for the Portal lightning to strike twice.
I guess I'm just a natural pessimist.
