Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Catch-All

I accidentally set the merchant in Cassardis on fire when I made a scroll and used it out of curiosity. Whoops!

Also, anyone do the follow up quest in the well there?

Spoiler:

The giant Saurian was a bit of a surprise. I'm not sure why, in a game filled with giant bad guys, but he did catch me off guard. Put him down without too much trouble though. :)

Today's playtime saw:
-meeting the Duke properly
-hating that little jester guy (tell me he's not in more of this...what a freak)
-completion of one of the Catacombs quests
-getting to the very bottom of the Water God's Altar

Also: those ghosts sure are annoying. I haven't seen the creepy old man around yet, but who the hell let Garfield's Halloween Special in the house?

That Jester is in at least one other side quest. Or story quest. I'm not sure, it was sort of both.

I ended up getting arrested yesterday. I thought it was fun to pick up and throw the random Pawns around the city, well the police didn't seem to think so. It cost me 5k, but right now money doesn't seem to be must of an issue since I'm routinely around 200k. I'm sure I've somehow ruined the ending of the game by throwing the Pawns around, but it just seemed like fun.

*Update*
Of course I didn't throw around Penny or Apsalar. I just did it to the randoms.

Apsalar wouldn't put up with that kind of treatment.

Actually, she probably would. They're pretty easy going.

I'm at the post game stuff and I'm wondering if I should go to NG+ to build up my other classes rather than fight strong monsters with weak skills.

I tried being a mage for about 3 minutes but it is just far too weak to use against what might cross my path.

If you head northwest or northeast from Gran Soren the monsters and bandits that way should still be the level they were prior to entering the endgame. I would recommend trying to build some wealth and

Spoiler:

buying some of the extremely high level gear you can get in the Everfall vendors, who are located in the Chambers of Remorse and Estrangement.

I played a bunch today and got to the "end". Very cool final battle. I'm not so sure about the endgame stuff.

Spoiler:

I'm in the Everfall. I killed the beholder type thing. It's kinda confusing.

Wait, you hit the end game already? Well...crap.

Either I'm really, REALLY taking my time, or I'm not too far myself because last I checked I was higher in level than your main pawn. Right now my story-based mission involves gathering evidence for a trial, so I figured I still had quite a bit of time left.

And since it seems staying at the inn isn't passing much of the time (already grabbed all the evidence), I'm going to head off and do a side quest or two.

Nooo Aristiphan! If you're done who's going to teach Bertie about life? He came back with a lot of knowledge, thank you. How long did it take to finish? Not that I'm in hurry, but 20 hours in and I barely feel like I scratched the surface.
Redwing, sorry I sent back Khardan without top grades, don't know what I was thinking… The new sledgehammer is pretty cool, it looks huge in his hands! Hope Bertie is behaving as well, if you're still using him.

Aristophan: Keep falling, grabbing, and fighting. The post I made above your last is pertinent to your place in the game and what I feel is the best way to proceed. zeroKFE also has something about it back on page 12 I believe.

il dottore: I finished up at around 76 hours, at level 64. I think it could be done in 30 or 40 if I played again from level 1, now that I know what I'm doing and where to go. The extra time and wonder is part of what makes it good, though.

Just picked this up yesterday, and made it up to about level 10. Enjoying the game quite a bit. If anyone wants to add me on Xbox live I am under the gamertag of Xeavn176. I don't currently have a lot of friends playing this.

Just added you, Xeavn. I'm around level 34 at the moment. My pawn is a warrior named Serfiriel. She's seen rather a lot of battle and I think she'd be very useful to you early on.

My character was in the late 40's when I got to the end. There wasn't much challenge at that point, until I got to the endgame area and saw some more powerful monsters. I'm sure I missed some quests; although, many quests carried over to the post-game.

I'm using a random mage at the moment, going to recruit Bertie again next time I play, he's a classy dude so I can't stay away!

Made Khardan a warrior for the moment to try to get some new augments, thankfully he's going through the ranks quickly. Once he's done there I'll probably make him a fighter again and leave him there, he's got an awesome shield all lined up for when he's ready. Maybe I'll duck into assassin with him and see if there are any interesting augments, but that's definitely not his style so it'll certainly be temporary.

I'm hoping to play a bit more tonight, haven't had much of a chance of late.

Have you guys been using my pawn? I'm not sure how the names appear, his name is Eddard and his nickname is Winter. Right now he's a mage with really random equipment that I've found throughout the game.

I'm consistently surprised to see that others use him even though he looks ridiculous and his abilities as a mage aren't very good yet.

Well, I finished the game proper today. I hadn't used the wiki much, but I did for the post-game since I wanted to get to the end. I played for about 50 hours and got to level 52 or so. I'm probably done for now. I really enjoy open world games, but there usually comes a point where I get tired of them, and I want to finish them quickly. Overall, Dragon's Dogma was really good, and if you are after epic loot, you can keep playing the game for a long time. I would just rather explore a new world.

I thought the final credits were great and worth the 3-4 hours it took to get from post-game to end-game.

Spoiler:

Seeing myself and my most used pawns in the book - Risto, Etienne, and Gadwin was awesome.

EDIT: Today's DLC included 15,000 Rift Crystals for $4.99. By my calculations, I could sell back my rift crystals to Capcom and that would pay for my game!

The lastest GWJCC has a Dragon's Dogma spoiler section with Certis and Justin McElroy. I'm dying to listen it, but I haven't completed the game yet. : \

Same here. The worst part is I hit a sort of burnout on it after playing it pretty much every day for an entire week plus a whole weekend. I want to get back to it, but at the same time I want something a little different.

Part of the problem may be that I feel stalled on the main quest line. In any case, maybe I'll jump back in tonight and try and make some progress.

Normally I'd say "screw it" and just listen to the spoiler section. I did that with Journey, and it actually has me thinking more about buying that game when I have space in the pile (HAHAHAHAHAHA). But I already have Dragon's Dogma, and evidently there are some good parts of the story, so...

I did that for Journey too. I wasn't sure I was going to get it but after listening to the spoiler section I just had to get the game.

Newbie question... I just got to the part where I had to create my primary pawn, and I got small questionnaire which I guess acts as behavior modifier. My question is how heavy are they weighted on the pawn character and will I have an option to adjust them later on in the game?
Thing is, I was setting up a fighter/tank for my group and I also needed to quit the game at the time. For some reason I found questions to be odd but I roll with it. Now what I fear is that my fighter will run away at first sign of trouble!

The Conference Call does spoil some story things about the game (including the endings). I would rather be surprised, so I'm glad I was finished before listening to it.

Nei, the questions you answer are a bit odd. Later, you can sit down your pawn in "The Knowldege Chair" and adjust its behavior. Somewhat. Also, you can buy stuff with rift crystals that will adjust behavior. I wanted a tanky type, and I didn't have too much trouble. I'd say just roll with it and see what happens.

if your looking to make your pawn a tank, the scather attribute might help. it makes them pretty aggressive. The only attribute I know of to stay away from for tanks would be medicant(I think thats how its spelled anyway) it makes them try to avoid hits and conserve stamina. What attributes does your pawn have now?

@Aristophan: Thx!

Have no idea about attributes. Like I said, I had to quit the game as soon as the game would let me after the pawn creation. From what I read up, I know character height/weight has an effect on stamina... so I took that into an account but that is far as I got.

I've got a question about post game.

Spoiler:

I went to fight Ur Dragon and I thought there was the option to fight it offline even if you're connected. Do I have to disconnect from PSN to fight it offline?

I'm absolutely loving this game. Just finished my first run to the Shadow Fort last night, which was awesome, and I think I'm around level 27. I've been playing as a pure caster. I played a mage until reaching the capital and immediately switched over to sorcerer which I've stuck with so far. I'm sure I've burned too many points on spells I'll never use again just because I wanted to try them out. Of course I also wasted a good bit of money until I figured out that I could upgrade items straight to level 3 if I had the materials and that I didn't first have to upgrade them to level 1 and 2. So yeah, this has been my learning run.

My pawn is Xena the warrior and so far she's done a decent job of keeping me alive while I sling spells. Feel free to look her up. My gamertag is Kehama. So nice and straight forward there.

I've just begun to find weapon drops so that's a nice change. I was really hoping I wouldn't be stuck with nothing but super-expensive blacksmith weapons.

It's super expensive for the time being, but I just went and bought five ferrystones for 20,000 a piece from black market dealer because, really, what's 100,000 gold?

Fairly minor spoiler.

Spoiler:

In the future, buy them from the rich guy (Fournival?). He sells them for 10k, with a discount once you help him out of a jam. (You did help him, right? :P)

Unfortunately, no. I got through all the evidence spelunking on day one, so I slept through two days and started trying for simple side quests in the mean time, and when I finally realized a new waypoint was added to the quest for more evidence it was the morning of the trial.

Unless that was just that Roland or Raynard guy who does the fake documents that would say "this guy is awesome and should be innocent", because if I have to fake the man's innocence then he is not innocent!

Spoiler:

I think I got three or four pieces of evidence supporting his innocence. I did throw in one fake affidavit to be sure, though, since I would be damned before I gave up my source of cheap ferry stones.

And anyway, even if he was engaging in a bit of light treason, what do I care? The duke is as dick. :P
