Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Catch-All

I use www.bfbcs.com. Really like the layout.

Those AT4 videos are insane. I suck at them though.

So Pawz, Recon and I decided to create 3 brand new characters and just have some fun.

We went with...

Rock-001 (me)
Paper-001 (Pawz)
Scissors-001 (Recon)

Honestly, it was some of the most fun we've had in battlefield for ages. Who says you can't kick ass being a rank 1? :p

Well, the last game I played was something special. It was Conquest on Harvest Day. We'd won the last game convincingly and I was looking forward to another fun game and, likely as not, another win. We all headed out in a chaotic scrum of vehicles and, after hectically fanning out across the map, we soon had all blue flags on the mini map. I was happily engineering away; taking out enemy tanks and repairing our own when, to my surprise, I noticed that the tide had turned. All the flags were contested or orange and then they were all orange> The score was something like 90/120 against us. The other team must have received some new blood. Expecting the inevitable slide into oblivion I fought on and concentrated on taking flags.

It was one of those games were you always seem to be catching people from the other team unawares and you win fights more than you lose them. My new best friend is the shotgun. There is a John Wayne western in which they give a young James Caan a small blunder bus and tell him to aim it in the general direction of the bad guys. That's me with the shotgun. When I jump with shock at meeting an enemy face to face I also tend to pull the trigger. End of encounter.

The game went on endlessly with the quad bikes, jeeps and tanks of both teams racing to and from flags. I took solace in the fact that we were losing very slowly. I even managed to plant my first tracer on a UMV and shoot it down with the RPG. As the numbers crept down into their 40s the scores of the two teams started to level off. Sometimes we were ahead, sometimes they were. I hit a tank that had engaged one of our tanks with an rpg. They backed off through a hedge line, thinking they were moving out of the line of fire, and hopped out to repair. I killed the crew and took the tank.

The score crept down into single figures and we were still neck and neck. It was going to be close. I really didn't want to be the guy who died several times in a row in the last moments; effectively losing the game for us but I fought on, carefully. Unbelievably the score came down to one all and then, after a moment, one zero in our favour. At that moment, I swear, the whole battlefield fell silent while everyone absorbed the fact that the game was on a knife edge. I'd ducked into a ditch after helping to kill a tank and I stayed there, hopefully safe and out of sight, until someone shot someone.

The game ended. We received the, not always reliable, 'Your team won!' screen. I checked my pins and awards. There, at the end of the line, were the points for being on the winning team. Great game.

EDIT: I checked and the game was 38 minutes long.

Higgeldy, that's insane. 1-0. Wow.

It was an amazing end to a fun game. it felt like both teams were doing their damnedest to win and making use of every weapon at their disposal.

As there's been quite a bit of Battlefield in the Batman AC thread recently. Here is sone Batman in the BC2 thread:

I've seen a funny video last week that a few Israeli players made (which explain why you can't understand what they are talking about - basically coordinating it).

Squad death match is a lot of fun. It's basically hide and seek with guns, knives and the occasional light tank but it has a hugely different feel from Conquest and Rush which is very welcome at this stage in my BFBC2 career. Squad Rush is also great in a minimalist kind of a way.

Randon note: I acquired my gold star knife kill by dropping on a guy from an attic hatchway. I think he was crouching in the middle of the landing so he didn't get sniped through the windows.

Random note 2: I arrived at a stationary gun last night with 2 recons, crouched in front of it, shooting down the map. I stopped and thought, 'There's our boys. Sniping for the team.' I then realised that neither of them had name tags over their heads (just as well the game isn't played in third person or they'd have seen me contemplating all this) so I got on the mounted gun and shot them both. As I ran on I imagined them both thinking, 'Maybe that wasn't the best place to set up a snipers nest.'

That's incredible and hilarious. That'd be the equivalent of thinking, "I'll hide inside this tank's gun barrel, no one would think to look for me here!"

Recon are notoriously oblivious of their surroundings. If your playing conquest on Harvest Day and your opponent has the B flag there's almost always someone sniping on the hill above it. If your looking for roadkill pins taking a CAV up there is an easy way to get them.

Also you can hit someone on the UAV station from the C flag using the stationary TOW launcher nearest A. There's an open window next the UAV station so all you need do it line it up, shoot then wait for the points to pop up

I've been on the receiving end of this in rush...

Recon players probably make up 3/4 of my repair tool kills

Also fun to drop an AT mine near them, sneak back then shoot the mine

Great info. The more you play the more you start to know where players go and which spots they frequent but I still have a lot to learn.

I did actually film the match on my old DVD recorder. Here is a low fi screenshot. Any closer and he'd have felt the barrel of the gun in his armpit.

It's kind of like when people take cover behind a large fuel tank.

I didn't realise there were explosive crates in some sheds and out buildings until I was crouched next to one and saw the logo on the side. Needless to say I changed my hiding spot.

The big tank behind the warehouse building at the back of the last base on Valparaiso is one of my favorites. As is the one on the right of the last base of Port Valdez in the shed area (and the boxes a bit farther forward). People are always around those.

And when you shoot those, if someone dies by the explosion, the weapon you used to trigger the explosion gets credited for the kill. So Shoot with pistol and you get a pistol kill etc.

Incoming PC patch apparently in beta.

I was hoping to see some change to helicopter armor in Vietnam. They're too tough on PC, and too weak on console. Need a nice happy medium between the two.

What are the changes?
Removed some memory leaks
Fixed crashes when the game attempted to render lots of content (high detail, high FOV or multiple-monitor modes)
Chat window no longer causes lag spikes
Chat window reworked opacity & visibility-time is controllable through settings in settings.ini
Clantag is remembered when using auto-login
Banner URLs can be up to 252 characters in length
SecuROM wrapper removed from non-Steam version
Minor performance improvements
Reduced rubberbanding on >24player servers

Interesting thing about SecuROM being removed.

EDIT: Cool, somebody is reporting that the long freeze right after loading the first map of a session that I get is gone.

About the time BF3 beta comes out, DICE drops a BFBC2 PC patch on 9/21.

BFBC2 PC Client R11 will be released on Sep 21st
Despite the release of BF3 being around the corner, we haven't forgotten all about Bad Company 2. We have a game update ready for BFBC2 PC, which is coming out this week. It is client R11. The exact build number is 795745.

What is the patch about?
Its main purpose is to address stability problems with the game and performance issues.
It is not intended to address game logic fixes, or to provide new content.

You are being vague. Exact changelist please!
Removed some memory leaks
Fixed crashes when the game attempted to render lots of content (high detail, high FOV or multiple-monitor modes); this should particularly help multi-monitor users
Chat window no longer causes lag spikes
Chat window reworked opacity & visibility-time is controllable through settings in settings.ini
Clantag is remembered when using auto-login
Banner URLs can be up to 252 characters in length
SecuROM wrapper removed from non-Steam version
Minor performance enhancements
Reduced rubberbanding on >24p servers
PrintScreen takes a screenshot, file stored in Documents\BFBC2\Screenshots directory

How large is the patch?
It is approximately 2.6GB.

And more stuff about distribution. Read the link.

Still no mention of a fix for the wrong winner/loser message. Does that occur on PC? Can't remember if that's console only or not.

I and a buddy of mine who have a regular Sunday morning multiplayer session discovered BFBC2 (Xbox 360) yesterday. We didn't want to play with randoms, so we played Onslaught. Jeez it's hard. Even on easy. Or we suck. But it's super fun.

Anyway, we're looking for a third and fourth to join us Sunday mornings 9AM - 12PM EDT for some more Onslaught action, or perhaps some of the other game modes.

This coming Sunday the 16th of October won't work as I'll be in Denver for Lindy Diversion, but the following one (10/23) should be a good starting point.

PM me to get added. If I get more than two we'll play something other than Onslaught or break up into "fire teams."

Aw, I wish I'd known about that. The last thing like that my wife and I did was the Austin Lindy Exchange in 2000. We're out of practice now though, her especially.

So I got this free on Origin today. Check your e-mails US/Canada Origin users.

And of course after the install, running the game from Origin launches another launcher... which has to download more updates because my newly downloaded and installed 8gb game wasn't the most recent version. Oh EA, you still don't get it, do you?

Anyway, depending how long this extra patching takes I might dabble tonight. I assume multi is pretty dead at this point so I'll just run through single at some point...

I think there's a strong contingent of people who didn't like BF3 and went back.
