Ascension (iOS) Gaming League (New Tourney starting Jan 14, 2013!)

Signed up!

Two ideas:

1) Specify the duration of the sign up period in the OP. I'd suggest giving a day and time that sign ups will be over. Possibly Saturday at 6pm or something.

2) I'm an idiot, but it took me a minute to realize that the page I wanted was "Playoff Signups". I was looking for GWJ Ascension Cup, or possibly Tournament.

Done and Done. Signup ends on Sunday, June 17th at 6PM Est.

signed up!

I'm in- thanks for organizing this.

Alright, signed up after I figured out how to take screenshots on the iPad. I don't want to learn anymore, dang it.

Home and Power buttons at the same time.

If you've done it right, the screen flashes white, and you get that trademark 'shutter' noise.

Wow, we already have 16 people signed up. This will be epic...

16 is too neat a number, so I signed up.

Can't have an odd number, so I signed up

Thanks for organizing! I'm in.

Just a reminder, two more days until signup closes.

So I just remembered I'll be away from my iPad for the next 10 days or so, so depending on when this starts and when the first round has to be over I'll probably have to bail on this.

20 people signed up... nice!

Last call for sign ups. 4 hours

Going to start setting up the bracket and will announce matches tomorrow.

Anyone ever heard of Challonge.com (http://www.challonge.com)? Looks like a website dedicated to managing brackets for you. Kinda cool (but hard to really dig into from an iPhone :-P)

I'm taking bets as to how many skimmers think TheWalt's post constitutes the actual bracket. Do I hear one, just for openers?

Okay, I don't know how to post pics, but the links above should work.

First one is pretty much how I drew it out on paper. I'll check this out later when at a computer. Looks cool on iPad at least.

Bigred is the mc of ceremonies (and controller of the OP), so skimmers should refer to OP for official rules. I'll edit my comment to prevent filthy skimmers from filth'in it up too much. I'm just throwing out ideas to help make this thing smooth.

It may be easier to manage thru Challonge than through Google Docs, but it will require getting 22 people signed up with new accounts on the Challonge website (free, as almost all social media sites are these days). I'm not a web guru, but they do offer webcode to integrate into other sites.

And yes, Challonge looks a lot better on the iPad ;-).

I set up a tournament there. You don't need to be a user on their site to participate. That's only if you want to report scores and receive notifications of a new match. Players who do not wish to signup can report scores in thread and I will update.

Just to reiterate. The tournament has started! Refer to OP for information and opponents. If you don't see an opponent, you earned a bye and are waiting for a winner of a round 1 match.

Also, if you wish to use the challonge.com features, you need to signup there. Add your challonge.com user ID to the signup sheet below and I will assign that to your bracket ID. You can also give me an email address if you don't want to signup, but wish to receive email notifications.

Signup sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...

BigRed, just signed up for the Chollonge account and added my ID to the sheet.

Anything that reduces your leg work, I'm all for. Thanks again for organizing the league!

In related news, I'm coming for you Councellor! (not really)

EDIT:
Looks like server issues at the moment. Three attempts to connect and no luck. The one time I did, it then informed me of a disconnection...

Oh well, back to HeroAcademy and POCKET planes for now

Nice! Great work bigred!

My Challonge ID is also TheWalt (updated in the signup sheet as well).

Good luck to everyone!

and I hope I destroy you all!! ;)

Hey, cool, live-updating embeddable bracket image:

IMAGE(http://images.challonge.com/Gwjascensioncup.png)

Hey Cyrax, I declined your invite because of the other game we had going, wanted my name to be on top of the list so we could differentiate. Then realized we'd only taken 1 turn in that one, so I just forfeited it so we can start tournament games w/o getting confused. Sent a tourney game challenge to you.

Just to be sure, is there any rule for who invites whom? I rescanned through the OP and didn't see anything other than preseason saying to work it out in PM...

That confused me anyway, is there any difference in who invites whom other than which name is on top? If there is, feel free to re-invite if you want Cyrax, I just didn't want the confusion.

Hmmmm, let's eliminate confusion.

If you haven't already started your match, the player on top of the bracket should send the invite (SoS, 7 days). If you have started the match, don't worry about it. Going forward, the player on top should always send the invite. If you don't receive an invite and you're the player on the bottom, PM your opponent and inquire why they haven't sent the invite. Don't send an invite yourself and confuse people.

I'll add this to the rules.
