Pocket Planes Catch-All

Pages

Pocket Planes is an iOS game by NimbleBit (makers of Tiny Tower) where you build a fleet of planes to fly people and cargo from one city to another.

GWJ has a flight crew called #gamerswithplane. Come join us and share any tips!

I'm in. Anyone who doesn't have me in GC yet, just cut and paste from my signature.

Spoiler:

m0nk3boy, so that's - m (zero) n k (three) b o y

If anyone has a spare "KANGAROO-M" body they don't need, I'd more than happy to take it off your hands.

I'll also post any unwanted components/duplicates here that i get when I open new airports.

So far I'm just working to keeping my planes in the sky, and grabbing as many Global Event packages and people as I can.

EDIT:
Just picked up a SUPERGOPHER-P body opening a new airport in Darwin if anyone requires it.

I'm in the airline fleet.

I have base myself around Japon. Got an airport open in Russia close to them, but can't seem to make money quite fast.

Manach, just got your request and accepted it.

Aristophan, not sure if I have you, and didn't see you in the document.

Monkeyboy, seems you are way too far than I on this one ;P Those engine and body are way higher level than what I am. Thought I had some, so have some beginer stuff.

Just got this... Two passengers and two cargo slots, woohoo!

Still available.

Does anybody know how to decommission planes? I'd like to ditch my one-seaters.

When the planes are landed at an airport, you can go into the same menu to paint them, and there will be a "remove" button. That'll put it into the hanger. Just be sure it is what you want to do, because it costs bux to bring them back into your active fleet. The early planes are 1 or 2, but I bought a Birchcraft, which turns out is a class 2 plane and can only land at class 2 (blue) airports. Since I only have 2 class 2 airports, Detroit and Toronto, it was kinda silly to have it out. It's gonna cost me 5 bux to get it running again when I get more airports. I assume it represents an inspection cost to get the plane flightworthy.

I'm annoyingly addicted to this.

Just signed up for the flight crew. I'm starting to get a feel for the game, but I still am totally lost as to what strategies I should be using. I'm only Level 5, though, so I imagine I still have a lot more to see before I need to start worrying about it.

I got your request, and I added myself to the spreadsheet. I just hit level 5 and I'm flying around the western US for now.

Some thoughts on strategy, I'm at level 11 now.

-Unless you want to constantly be attending to your game, you want to get your airline spread out quickly so you can take longer flights with higher fares.
-Only buy blue and red dot airports.
-Once you get planes with at least 3 slots, always build the "M" variant; they're generally easier to fill (and hence get the bonus), and it also guarantees that you'll have the capacity to pick up a "bux" fare from a city.
-As you get better airports, start closing down your smaller airports. It's tough to fill a plane with 4 slots from a small airport.
-Add planes sparingly until you unlock the Mohawk or Birchcraft. They have sufficient range to be useful long-term for domestic flights. Once you unlock the Birchcraft, you should focus on getting a nice spread of airports and then phase out your older planes.

Got completely hooked with Tiny Tower for a while. Only just started with this but it seems even more compelling as there looks to be more detail.
I've joined the flight crew and added you on game centre m0nk3boy

Accepted.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm going to use this post to list what parts I have. If you want anything, just send me a PM.

Navigator-M Engine
Airvan-M Engine
Wallaby-C Engine

Good stuff.

Man, I'm level 9, but I've wasted a LOT of money upgrading my regionals. I just unlocked Sydney, and the number of people pulling through those gates.

*insert Cher singing "if I could turn back time"*

I also just figured out that that the 0.0 next to the regionals is "people it services" in millions...

I really don't get this. It's basically AirVille, in fact it is AirVille. There's no real point or objective, it's barely a game really. And yet I spent my entire hour on the treadmill yesterday playing it. Dammit, well played Nimblebit.

I spent weeks breeding frogs for the same reason.

Niblebit, I want my life back. Stop sitting in the reward center of my brain and feeding me false pleasures.

When I was still learning the mechanics, I sent someone a plane part. I thought that it was going to *give* me a bux for my part, but I was *spending* one to send it to a friend.

It was put to good use

Let me know if you're short a similar part and I'll return the favour.

Also, the exchange. I thought I was buying 1 bux for 500 coins. Not so. I was 500 coins better off, but I was then 2 buxs short instead of one

I didn't start out too well either. I saw that there was a special event in Calgary, so I bought the airport. Then I discovered that none of my planes could actually reach Calgary. I ended up buying some airports in between to make the trips.

Well look on the bright side, at least you don't have three planes grounded in Atlanta in a 24 hour fog bank.

Parts that I'll send around:

AIRVAN-M Body
AIRVAN-M Controls
KANGAROO-P BODY
KANGAROO-M Engine
KANGAROO-M Body

Let me know, and I'll send them along

Never mind on the KANGAROO-M - I just found the Controls and am building it for my fleet

So, I have:

AIRVAN-M Body
AIRVAN-M Controls

I'm willing to send to anyone who needs them.

I had the same thought multiple times yesterday.

Profits are up now that I'm getting the hang of deadheading and layovers!

Biggest mistake I made at the beginning of the game was expanding into an airport that was a little too far for the range of most of my planes. Better to stick closer to all your existing airports for a while.

Also flew with empty space a few times before I realized I could make a stopover by only selecting the first leg of a flight that needed to make more than one stop.

Yup. I think I'm going to make a rule that I can only play this at the gym

I have absolutely no qualms about forcing passengers and cargo to disembark midway to their destination if I can pick up a destination bonus. Another plane can pick them up later, and that's what the layover slots are for.

If I'm going to be away for a while, I'll route to the final destination, but if I'm going to be able to check it frequently, I'll just route to the closest destination and hope to pick something up on the way as stuff gets dropped off.

Yeah, what IS up with that?
Three of my best planes have been grounded in Atlanta since early last night. This is the Fog From Hell.

I started my game in Central America, so I am not looking forward to hurricane season. Have had one tropical storm already, but it didn't close the airport- just rained sideways.

Mmmm... dopamine. *pushes lever for pellet*

Edit: the science fair on the future events list is going to be in Cancun. Lots of "experiments" and mad-scientist-looking dudes headed there.

And now Dallas is closed with a thunderstorm. Cursed acts of God! That's a total of 6 planes grounded and my main refueling point for LA-NY hops out of action.
