Pencon 2012

...

I never told Hedge about the stuffed penguins.

So this may be an obvious thing, but there will be the rocking of bands here, yes? If equipment is needed I have just about everything we could possibly want for a 360 setup, including George's Rickenbacker and Paul's Hofner.

We've leaned away from rock band for the last year or so. However, nothing is off the able ATM.

God, I hope so. I love me some drunken singing in front of people, with scrolling lyrics!

Any interest in *real* racking? Tough to fly with but if any locals have gear...

That is a possibility.

I would also be down for this. Can't bring much real gear aside from a microphone, but I'd love to play.

Drum kit's the hard part, honestly. And a decent drummer.

Funny you should mention that...

I have an acoustic guitar (no jack for amp) which I never really play.

Actually, my buddy tours. I'll see if he can make it. But yeah, the kit might be a problem.

Do we need a horn section? (Tuba/Trombone here)

I have a Rowland cube pa, mics and a mixer that pack. Can prolly bring either a bass or guitar on the plane.

4 months to go and pencon12 is already getting out of hand.

If you guys are going to "jam" or whatever it is you kids call it now, I'm going to need some pun-heavy band names.

I could bring my trumpet - I'm only 15 years out of practice

If you guys form a ska band....

I have no way of finishing this sentence.

This will be the con to end all cons.

I can bring my upright bass.

If anyone wants another DM for some RPGs I can run games.

IN all seriousness, 2 of these and we're set. I have 1, so ...

All we need is drums.

I have the drums. I just need to practice more.

Ok, so... RL Rock Band? I will not stop this.

Will you guys need a Karoke machine for lyrics?

Nah, we've all got smart phones and lyric websites.

If this is going to be a thing, I propose we organize and make a song list.

Ska? F that. Old school Rhythm and Blues.
Sweet home chicago's always a staple.

Video Game Music Covers. Come on, what else would a Gamer With Jobs band be?

So, based on my recent experience doing this, a song list is helpful, but not complete. Here are some suggestions though:

Smells Like Teen Spirit
Wonderwall
Live Forever
We Can Work it Out
Back in Black
I Wanna Be Sedated
Gigantic

and some slower stuff too: Hallelujah, Closer to Fine

But honestly, mostly we just got together and someone would say "Hey, I can do all of Wish You Were Here, you figure out the bass line!"

It helped a lot we had three really strong drummers just hanging out, and 1 extremely, extremely good versatile guitarist to make the rest of us sound good (ish).

Woot! A song I remember the bass line to! (It's only 4 notes)

I used to be the flannel shirt wearing grunge head in the back of orchestra class playing Nirvana and Pearl Jam on an upright bass. Didn't get me any chicks though...

We provide our own live music, we are ballers.

Lots of these events sound fun, but I'll probably skip stuff like the MtG draft because I would want to avoid an event that one, takes a lot of time, and two, I can do at pretty much any game store I see. Albeit with people who aren't quite as fantastic.

My goal is to spend PenCon doing some more uniquely GWJ things, like mercilessly flirting.

You're not my type, sorry.

That thing? That thing you got? How much will you be moving it back and forth in order to turn a profit?

Spoiler:

Shake yer money-maker baby!
