The Binding of Isaac

Oh, I misunderstood what you were saying.

And first 9 challenges down. Not sure how to unlock number 10, but I guess its time to start doing some character runs on the new boss.

Secret rooms: There are two on every floor now, not just the XL floors, every floor. One is the secret room that's been there all along that's almost always found in a "horseshoe" pattern. The other is apparently always found on the edge of the map, is only bordered by one other non-secret room, and can take a variety of different forms, including an angel/devil room, a room full of hearts, and more. Being able to reliably find the second secret room is one of the main benefits to ipecac.

This also means that any level that is 6 rooms tall can't have the additional secret above or below the farthest edges of the boundary rooms (also applies to the left and right edges on a level 8 rooms wide)

So I made it through with Maggie, Isaac, Cain and Judas but I CANNOT get a successful Eve run past Mom's Heart. It is just not happening. Her damage is too low and I usually die in a spider room in the cellar. If I do make it past that, I get nothing but terrible upgrades and die in the depths or the womb.

I swear when I was playing Cain they were tossing the best upgrades at me like confetti, but when I try to get through as Eve I get nothing but terrible spacebar items that no one wants.

Is it just me or is the Ipecac the least convenient upgrade ever? I end up taking more damage than I'm giving out (with the exception of the time that I had it combined with the homing shots)

Yes, I've started skipping it after dying every single time I get it.

I also skip chocolate milk because I hate having to tap-tap-tap.

Ipecac is not the most fun, but it takes down bosses super quickly. I don't recall if it works to bomb open doors, but that's probably the best strategy.

Do you have to multiple tap for chocolate milk? I remember just holding down one of the shot keys. As long as at least one key is held down, it won't fire until you release. I usually play chocolate milk the same as brimstone.

For opening doors it's splash damage doesn't count so you have to hit the door dead centre.

Chocolate milk has been nerfed real hard. The longer you hold it the weaker it gets (and the smaller the shot becomes)

It's great for bosses but awful for a lot of the random enemies, and honestly I have more trouble killing random enemies than bosses in most runs. Anything that homes in on you or moves quickly and erratically is an nightmare with ipecac.

Have you gotten super Dr yet? Its like having all your attacks be the doctors missile item.
I actually like ipecac, but perhaps I am odd in liking indirect fire upgrades.

I got a lot of range upgrades when I tried it out, it was good against slow moving tough enemies, but it was pretty hilarious when I couldn't kill a single red fly because it kept chasing me around the room and I couldn't get enough distance to not overshoot the little bugger. Eventually had to bomb him.

I ended up getting killed by Gurdy because he sits in the centre of the room, and I pretty much couldn't get into a position to land hits on him effectively.

Number 10 is already unlocked for me. Do you need to get Golden god?

Oh, I finally beat Sheol with Eve. Now on to Samson and Blue Baby.

I feel like all of my successful runs since Wrath of the Lamb have had both flight and technology. They're so easy to come by now.

I suspect so. It seems that only popped on my laptop for some reason...well then.

Spoiler:

Isaac Was Good Today challenge run. Really like the look of Squeezy with Pyro and the Nail active. Jesus Juice and the Cat-o-Nine-Tails just make him look super freaky.

It's funny I had an enormous amount of trouble getting my Cain run done but I just did Judas and Eve first time. I only managed to get Eve up to 3 red hearts.

Also I've been going up to heaven (e2a: apparently actually called The Cathedral) rather than down to sheol for all my wrath of the lamb runs.

And I've just discovered there is at least 1 hidden achievement that aren't displayed in the list of achievements to be unlocked. I got 'The Polaroid' achievement, and it doesn't list what it was awarded for, in the place of the description it just has "? ? ?"

e2a: Blue baby run done and on my first Samson run I took down Satan. 1 more samson run to do the Cathedral and then on to the challenges!

I'm having the worst luck with Samson, but I did get done a Blue Baby run by getting the Ankh then dying with Samson.

The game counts it as a Blue Baby win so I'm counting it!

I did pick up the "Complete The Womb without taking any damage" achievement on my Satan Samson run. Which was pretty awesome.

So golden god randomly popped after a failed Cain run so now its the new stuff and some damage cheevos to go.
Purist challenge is by far the hardest.

There's a bug that was introduced sometime after the very first free expansion. Once those new items and things were added the various components added up to 100% so golden god dings sometime before you've acquired all the items in the collection.

I am apparently missing shears. Seems odd.

Doh - wrong thread

I have Cathedral runs yet to complete with Eve and the blue baby, then I'll start in on the challenges.
Eve is proving very challenging in the early stages as I fight with her low damage and low health. Hopefully I'll pull a forget-me-now early enough to get a few extra drops early to help push me through.

Those randomly popped for me after I died on a failed run.

Isaac, Cain and blue baby (via Ankh) cathedral runs done.

I still haven't gotten my Eve run done. I had a great build and screwed up. I used the Joker in Womb 2, which took me to a Cathedral room (not a Satan room). I jumped down the trap door and it took me to Sheol
I also screwed up another nice run by grabbing Guppy before I realized that's what dropped from a boss.

So I've been reading all the progress that you guys have all made, and felt frustrated that even after 53 hours of gameplay, I still haven't beaten Mom's heart with ? ? ?, or even Sheol with any character...

...and then tonight I beat both those goals in one single awesome run. I had the Triple Shot, maxed out damage, tough love, sacred heart, ouija board, and a pony, so I basically sat in the rocks while my tears of death homed straight into my enemies.

Feels good man. I almost don't know what I should do next.

Do it again man.

The challenges are kind of fun. I was playing Meat Boy 4 Evr last night, which gives you a fully developed Meat Boy right off the bat, but removes all of the treasure rooms from the game.

I'm behind everyone else but it doesn't bother me. Just unlocked ? and Samson earlier in the week, and still need to do Sheol/Cathedral runs with everyone except Isaac. Oh and challenges. $3 gets you a lot of value in this game....
