Hehe, check it out. Here is a post on the 3DR forums with a nicely deduced timeline of DNF development, as well as some landmarks in gaming and the general world which have gone by since DNF was announced.
My favorite quote:
The rovers Spirit and Opportunity were proposed, authorized, announced, designed, launched and successfully landed upon Mars within the timeframe of Duke Nukem Forever's development.
hahah!
yeah...but there no strippers in NASA...
Takes time to program them correctly
Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter
Delivering Truth while the 10% deliver lies.
In sailing, ""DNF"" stands for ""Did Not Finish""
EDIT: Damn, I really need to learn to read...

You know it''s bad when a space program develops faster than you . . .
So too in car racing.

Ever read Bill Harris'' bit on the E3 Duke Nukem guy? Hilarious.

Yeah, kinda makes you wonder what the hell 3D Realms has been up to in the mean time.
I think evetually we''re going to find out that DNF is the biggest prank ever played by all the game developers on the community. You see.. George and the rest of the team don''t exist. It''s just various other guys like Carmack, Meyers, Molyneux, Newell, etc. all in a secret club taking turns posting under the GBroussard forum name and having a good chuckle at us. You wait and see....

Well didn''t the guy that played Klink have it written in his contract that he could never win against Hogan because he was jewish?
Crazy sh*t.
Yeah, so if I had had a kid when I graduated high school it''d be 13 now. If I had had a kid when DNF was announced it''d be almost 8.
Why do we even talk about this game anymore?
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
I still think it''s amusing as hell. Nobody talks about medals Greg Louganis won (did he win any?) they just talk about him hitting his head on the diving platform. Failure attracts interest like nothing else. A long, protracted, spectacular failure like DNF is all the better.
EDIT: Thread appears to have been locked. Anyone get an archive of it?
If there were any justice in the world, 'emoticons' would be a failed eighties Transformers spin off movie, in which all the bots transform into a symbol of an emotion, and which preaches gay rights.
Well, when Werner Klemperer originally signed up he expected Hogan''s Heroes to be a serious drama series. And being of jewish heritage- like John ""Schuuuultz!"" Banner, btw - he didn''t really feel comfortable participating in a comedy series with WW2 background. He finally agreed on playing Klink if he''s guaranteed to lose every time and under no circumstances makes it to triumph over Hogan. Not once. Well, that''s how the story goes.
All the more reason why I''d hate to be working on it now. It could be a great game, satisfy you sexually, and even cook you breakfast in the morning, and it''d still have a big ""yeah, but"" attached to it. There''s no way it could ever be judged a success.

For all we know, 3DRealms might have a photo-realistic engine like Doom 3 sitting in hiding somewhere and are waiting for E3 next year to show it off. Makes sense in a way, why compete with Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 when you can be there after they cool off a bit, polish up your product a bit, work on some expansion packs, clean out your car, learn chinese, recode it to run on an XBox2 and create a lifesized statue of Duke all by hand using macaroni pasta and glue.
Or they could have nothing but the worst smelling piece of vaporware since Daikatana slimed its way into retail stores.

Isn''t Shadow Warrior the last game that 3D Realms released? If I''m not mistaken, that would mean that 3D Realms has never released a 3D game.

A fellow named Zanzibar over atEvil''s forumsposted the whole timeline, which I''ll re-post here for your convenience.
Lock n'' Load, your faith in 3DRealms is.. amusing. <cue Imperial Death March>

I get the train wreck-ness of it all. But as BV said, it''s going to have ''the stain'' on it no matter what form the final release (if there ever is one) has.
If George likes playing in the corner with his GI Joes and not doing what the other kids are doing, let him be.

Hmmm... that''s actually only the first half of the post, but it covers the ''timeline'' part of it quite well.

Wasn''t there a DN side scrolling game they released a few years back?
EDIt: No wait that was Sunstorm who made it. So it looks like you are correct about them nver actually making a 3D game.
Oh, they''ll license Duke Nukem out but there is no DNF in the champagne room.
