HL2 to go GOLD on Monday

http://www.hl2fallout.com/forums/ind...

This is officially confirmed. Weeeeeeeeee

Update: Forum is down ugh. Message text from Gabe Newell was :
We're going gold monday...

Maybe they meant they were going to the olympics... I''d be more likely to believe that then them being done... but we''ll see.

It seems to be working again.

Also, I''m psyched. You know, I may actually play through the source version of HL1 before I go through HL2. I haven''t played the first game for ages. Could use some refreshing.

Thats it I give up, Steam will finally beat down my resistence for I must have Half-Life 2 as soon as humanly possible.

The Steam preload is so slow for me I hope it loads by then. If it''s gold it should also be ready to play from Steam at the same time. Oh please!

I wish, I bet there will still be some kind of delay. Don''t see why it can''t be deliverable via Steam 3-5 days after it goes gold.

Gabe better not go back on his word again.

I''m really wondering if that''s him or a hacked account. Sounds off to me.

It is a possible hacked account that posted I am now reading on the Steam forums. It seems like the real Gabe would have given a little more detail. Maybe he was tired and just had to say it because he was sure, I guess we will see Monday.

It is definitely appearing fake now, sources:

So, while you are bumbed out, enjoy the first HL1 Source screenshot.

Wow those are some beefy minimum specs according to VE''s news item.

2.4ghz, 512 megs of Ram, DirectX 9 card (probably Radeon 9700+ type) and who knows how much Hard disk space.

I hope they''ve made a mistake and mean the ""recommended"" or its going to be a slide show for most gamers. My machine isn''t too far over that spec.
The HL1 port to Source and CS multiplayer componen I hadn''t heard of, 3 games in one...excellent.

Hey! I remember that part...

I seem to recall that Source engine will scale down to your appropriate level of graphics card.. i.e. I dont believe a DX9.0 card is the min. just probably ideal.

Nooooooooooo damn i wanted this to be true. Find the bastard who did this and give him a public flogging i say.

Dammit figures, got my hopes up. I''m sort of in limbo here with no new games to play. Burnout 3 in 9 days, Fable in 16, I need something new now dammit! School starts Monday so my gaming is somewhat diminished this fall.

I doubt those are the real min specs, because there''s been a lot of hoopla about the Source engine being scalable to run on any machine, it just deactivates effects and so on.

Hmmm... A retailer sent me an email saying HL2 release got pushed back to November. yesterday.. Who to believe....

Yeah, it will technically run on DirectX 7.0 cards and up. Everyone should be covered one way or another.

Heh, to quote CSNation:

This post has been confirmed a hoax. An anonymous imposter guessed Gabe''s password, ""gaben"", and made the false claim. Valve has confirmed that this is was a hoax on the Steam Forums.

Here are the full details straight from Mr Bond:

Update: After one crazy night of theories, server mayhem and IP tracing, we''ve finally gotten to the bottom of this mess. In a twist of hilarity, it seems that Gabe Newell''s account password was set to ''gaben''. Person x guessed this and made the ""going gold on Monday"" post which we''ve heard so much about. The user (who we believe is the same person x) then made this post just minutes ago using Gabe''s account [announcing that he guessed Gabe''s pass as ""gaben""]

[...]

I think Gabe is going to need to start using slightly better passwords on accounts he uses to make public announcements on.

So thats how the source code was released... I always though it was like this.

I was right, woo!

Wait, so my being right means Half-Life 2 isn''t going gold yet. So.... conflicted!

Who announces gold on a Saturday? Especially for a triple A title. As they say too good to be true...

Dirty Bastard! Get A rope!

I hate to provide another rumor for the fire but it appears that although the game will not go gold on Monday, it probably will sometime next week.

Please don''t hang me though if I''m wrong, I enjoy living.

Get the gimp ready in case this turns out to be a hoaxorz!

I''m not even sure Valve knows exactly when it''s going gold, let alone weeks ago! Who knows what pesky bugs may crop up between now and a week from now? I would take the store, fan, publisher and press predictions with a grain of salt.
