Boston, MA Area GwJr's

The area is covered, though, so we can all remain pasty, freckly nerds :D!

I've been neither pasty nor freckled, ever. I feel left out already!

I'll be there, and plan to bring my two older daughters (12 and 9) for some boardgaming goodness. The early forecast looks like it'll be a beautiful day!

Also, please bring your 3DS's so I can mooch puzzle pieces.

I think 11 am might be a bit early for us since we're coming from my apartment, but I think we can be there closer to 12-1pm. How late are we planning on this going until?

Will do. If anyone has TWEWY and wants to trade stuff I'll try and bring that with me.

We'll go til we can't goes n'more. 12 or 1 is fine, I just want to make sure we have tables. Tried to reserve them, but you have to be a Northboro resident.

There is a small chance I may show up. My gf and I are having a bbq Sunday, so I will probably end up doing prep stuff for that, but if I can I would love to meet some goojers in person. If I don't make it, I hope you will all have a little extra fun for me.

I am in NH, so anything Mass related I'm not too far away.

I'm right on the edge of Cape Cod. I am not able to make it to this weekends event but will look out for future ones.

Ya I didn't see this thread until it was too late, I am all booked up as well, but now it's tagged.

I meant to ask you during DDO last night if you were coming, alas!

I just noticed this thread today.

Ok, so next question.... Is there any sort of landmark for where people are going to be? Or do I have to go around yelling "weiner bomb" or "shalalm baskur" to find everyone like at PAX?

Just look for the nerds carrying tons of board games.

Just picked up jumbo Cthulhu Dice. Bringing it tomorrow!

I'm in Belmont but I head out to Marlborough on the regular. I'm gonna be out in the woods on the 26th but I'm down for future MA Goodjeing.

I hate to pry, but - out in the woods? Hunt/camp/fish?

More relevant: I'm going to try and get to Marlborough around 12:30.

At the rate my kids are getting ready, it looks like noon is our ETA...

We're off to a slow start and we're going to grab a quick brunch on our way out. Should be there closer to 1/1:30 I think.

The girls and I had an absolutely splendid time today! Thank you VERY much TheGirlNerd for organizing this -- the venue was perfect (if a bit pollinated) for board gaming and Giant Cthulhu Dice. I certainly hope we do it again sometime soon, when more Goodjers from the area can attend, now that they're aware of it.

I've got some pictures of the event that I'll post tomorrow, though I suspect that PhotoBucket, et al, will limit them to merely 2d.

Me too! Cheers everyone, sorry if I was a bit of a liability with my lack of boardgaming knowledge. Looking forward to the next S&T.

Bonnie and I had a great time. I only snapped one picture during the Telestrations game before we joined in.

Thanks for coming out everyone. Girlnerd and I had a great time and it was great to meet some local GWJers! Looking forward to more pics

The 3DS camera resolution is a lot crappier than it appears on-screen. Apologies for the small & blurry pics, here.

O_O I have never seen a worse pair of pictures of myself. I'm selling all my Nintendo products.

Oh man! Just started looking for a mass gaming club today! Shame I missed this, it sounds really fun! Hope to hear about the next one.

Is it too soon to start planning the next one?

Never too soon!

I'm happy to do another one soon! The only venue I know of that 1) is free and 2) is big is the park. I'm not that familiar with ...well...anything really. Our house is a little too small to host more than 6 or so people or I'd offer that.

If we have some ideas, I'll start a thread.

We immediately bought Quarriors and the Zombie Dice expansion after dinner that night. I didn't get a chance to try out Lords of Waterdeep. Whoever has that should come over for a game night!

Be careful, I might just take you up on that.

I had a really good time, as did my kids and their friends. Thanks to everyone for putting up with the littlest one, he overall knows his way around a board game, but sometimes gets in over his head and won't realize it. The world's biggest Cthulhu Dice game was really funny, seeing all of those balls go flying in when the Cthulhu sign was rolled really sold the premise. Epic Spell Wars plays a lot better with more than 2 people, but 8 might have been going a little overboard - so many dead wizards before the first turn! I didn't get to play Pandemic or 7 Wonders, but my oldest son said both were really good.

Thanks again for organizing this, and thanks to everyone for showing up. I ordered Smallword for the next time, too!

I wrote up a list earlier today of all the games we played on Saturday, but these last few posts seem to indicate I forgot a few... here's what I had, for posterity:

  • Zombie Dice
  • Ascension: Chronicle Of The Godslayer
  • Giant Cthulhu Dice
  • 7 Wonders
  • Quarriors
  • Miskatonic School for Girls
  • Wrath of Ashardalon: A D&D Boardgame
  • Telestrations: 12 Player Party Pack

As for venues... I was thinking of suggesting Borderland State Park, in Easton/Sharon/Mansfield. It's an enormous park, featuring a (closed except for tours) castle, a pond, numerous hiking and mountain biking trails, and an 18-hole Disc Golf (frisbee) course... if outdoorsy stuff is your thing.

The park does charge a $2/day parking fee, to help maintain the grounds... If that's really going to break anyone's budget, I'll cover it. The park also asks that we get permission from the park visitor's office in advance, for groups over 20 people. The only real problem is that I don't remember whether the picnic benches have any sort of cover over them, like at the park in Northboro. I'll swing by tomorrow on my way back from dropping my youngest off at preschool, to scout it out a bit...

That castle looks amazing! I just wanna climb around in there. Eff a tour.
