You can favorite threads you know.

But... then how would people know that I'm tagging a thread?

We have questions, you guys have answers.

This is a very quick survey to help us establish some direction. Please take a look, it's only 5 questions.

Yes, but in case oily's putting together a rough head count, he can count a post but he can't count a favorite.

Re: question 1, please take into account any tragedy of the commons problems arising from provided food (e.g. people will eat more when they aren't paying by quantity)

re: question 5, there needs to be a second option about sneaking bourbon in inside toiletry bottles like in high school. Right? Right? Anyone?

(ETA just kidding smiley)

You are not alone, Fedora, my wife and I are also in the DDFL club. But we are clearly in the minority.

Edit: Sorry I shouldn't speak to Fedora's life plan and drinking, but for now he isn't old enough.

I also can't drive ;_;

Fedora, man, you ain't alive yet if you can't drink and drive. Wait that sounds horribly wrong.

I have surveyed. The questions were bold and intrusive, slightly metallic in taste, but it all went down smooth.

I know you're joking, but this has actually been a point of contention over the last few days. We simply can't have outside booze brought onto the property, it's an Ohio law regarding premises covered by liquor permits. Violating that could cost me my liquor license, and that's just not something I'm willing to risk - particularly as a new, first time permit holder I'm likely to be under increased scrutiny by the powers that be.

Since Oily is contracting with my company directly, rather than each of you contracting with me individually, he and his are responsible for making sure you and yours don't do something that gets me and mine in trouble. I don't think he's terribly comfortable with that, and I don't blame him to be honest, but it is what it is. So if you guys sneak something on property, I will be contractually bound to deal with Oily in true medieval style. While that would be entertaining for most of us, it could be a bit distracting for those attempting to sleep in the Dungeon room...

As for the beverages themselves, we'll have a good selection of beer, wine, and possibly ciders and meads on hand. Oily will have the opportunity to request certain brands, and I'll be discounting the drinks from the normal price.

I'm glad I got my edit in before you made your post, Teneman. Keeps me from looking too suspicious.

Didn't the survey say homebrews would be allowed? How does that factor in with Ohio law?

Oh, don't worry Minarchist, the Castle Watch already has you on the special list...

It did, and they are, to a limited degree (for the competition only). We're relying on an interesting interpretation of the law in regards to those. An aggressive interpretation, but one that I believe is defensible.

Serious question - this only pertains to open/shared space, right? What goes on behind closed doors is no man's business?

Hey, you're the lawyer.

All I will say is that, should I manage to make it: Oily, regardless of how much Delirium Nocturnum you manage to source, I will drink it.

Maybe a dumb question, but you've got soft drinks like Coke/Pepsi/etc on hand too, right?

Soft drinks will be on hand and unlimited, the con is paying for them.

I can promise you a good beer selection. Teneman wanted help picking stuff out to have in stock anyway but we'll be able to put in a special order just for us.

Granted, it's not how we've done things in the past but this should be fine.

skeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Not a dumb question. They're not currently available, but they will be by the time of PenCon. We're in discussions with Coke today in fact.

No, actually, it's property wide. That's because unlike a hotel with a separate bar/restaurant, our bar/restaurant are combined with the rooms, meaning the rooms are in many cases actually part of the licensed premises.

To avoid any problems, we simply agreed that nobody would bring anything onsite. There will be plenty of alcohol available at discounted prices, and combined with the ridiculous rate on the rooms themselves, things should still be cheaper per person than they were last year.

Now that being said, we're not going to have alcohol sniffing dogs at the door. We're going to be on the honor system. We're hoping that everybody respects that.

Edit to fix quote screw up.

Question: Sweet Tea. I know I am considered not to be part of the south while in Florida (Ironic in a way), but I do enjoy a cup of freshly brewed sweet tea. Will there be tea brewing going on, or will it be soft drink style branded crap (sorry, but nestle isn't good)? Now, I know that people farther north are not big tea drinkers, or specifically not big sweet tea drinkers, so I would gladly take a fresh brew of non sweet tea that is piping hot so i can stir an unspecified amount of sugar within it.

Serious mad props to all the effort that Teneman and the Pencon crew are clearly going through for the big event. Mad, mad props!

You and I will get along well sir/madam. How sweet do you like your freshly brewed tea?

I <3 Tea, sweetened or not. Just saying.

Hot tea, milk, unsweetened for me. Unless it's boiling out - then iced tea, milk, unsweetened

Yes, an area with hot tea and milk would be great.
I'm partial to black tea but not picky.
