The Binding of Isaac

I'm in. Of course.

If they do that, they might as well add save slots. You can scum a file like that by copying it.

Isn't there a way that they could make a particular file only loadable once? I guess it would be too easy to hack.

That's one reason why achievements for single player games suck. If the game did not have Steam achievements, there would be no reason to care if someone hacks their copy.

There is, but there's no way they could stop someone from suspending the game, copying that save file, and then loading up the original.

The solution, of course, is to run the game within a VM. Then you can suspend the VM whenever you want -- and even scum the VM hard drive & saved machine state file.

Why does the 28th have to be so far away?

I think I got about a nickel an hour worth of value out of the first game. They should charge more.

I'll be day one perching this of course.

I forsee the 28th being a long day of F5-ing the Steam front page...

That what they're calling it these days?

Now that you mention it, "I just F5'd your mom" has a nice ring to it.

I just want either native game pad support (I think it's included in Flash now) or a way for me to map keys.

The Binding of Isaac was meant to be played with gnarled, arthritic figers pounding away in futility at an uncaring keyboard.

Just think of this expansion as a heard start on carpal tunnel.

I use the xpadder app for key mapping for games with no pad support. It's really good and versatile ( swapping between mappings for different games could be a little more intuitive), well worth the $5 or whatever it costs.

I think Joy2Key is the recommended option although there was some Flash app recently which had Joy2Key bundled in. They really should do that as a work around.

I've used Joy2Key. It's still quite janky on last look.

Sounds refreshing.

Yeah joy2key isn't as user friendly as xpadder.

Also I'm a little disappointed there isn't steam pre-purchase deal for this expansion

Mostly I just want to pay for it so I stop having to think about paying for it.

Still F5ing. Took a break to play the actual game and got my first Satan kill, so I guess there's that.

I just realized it's coming out today and not tomorrow. Looks like no Diablo 3 tonight for me

It's up!

EDIT: It's like a completely new game. So much stuff!

Squeeeee!

DLC isn't compatible with Mac users right now. We found out about this the hard way

Wish this game were on Desura. Hate when there are Linux versions of games and they aren't on Desura.

Super fun, lots of new stuff. My one complaint is that it's hard to tell what a lot of the new items do. I already managed to beat the new final boss, although I think I got a pretty strong build of new items.

Spoiler:

Got flight from the Dead Dove although I suspect it slows you on pickup. Got the Holy Grail but not sure what it did. Blood Lust I think makes your tears bigger the longer you're in a room, I think the new character Samson starts with it. Doesn't seem to show up in the collection but I got a pickup that occasionally shoots a tooth with your tears that's big and may do more damage. My on-use item was the Prayer Card which gives you a new type of heart where if you get two of them it gives you one new whole heart. Not as good as soul hearts in my opinion, but still fun. I had plenty of health and damage for the final boss so not sure how hard he really is, very bullet hellish though.

There don't seem to be Steam achievements for the new stuff, at least not yet. Also the challenge mode stuff seems interesting, although I noticed a bug where you can't turn off a challenge without restarting the game.

Spoiler:

Holy Grail gives you wings so you can fly too, but you already had that from Dead Dove.

I got an item that let me shoot poison bombs like Pestilence. Very useful, but I had a lot of trouble hitting enemies that were chasing me.

Sweet. Only got a chance to play a quick 25minutes between my new ipad and going out for dinner with the gf. Saw about 6 new pickups and plenty of new rooms.

Was I imagining it or do you move more slowly over the wooden floorboards?

Especially when there are webs on them.

I started a new game and the first level was called "Cellar XL." It was gigantic, something like a solid 3x4 grid of rooms with a few coming off the edges, and it had two treasure rooms. Both were locked, but I found a gold key so that wasn't a problem.

I just wish I had a better idea what the trinkets do. In a fortune telling machine I found a "cursed skull" and eventually discarded it for something that looked more useful, but then it turned up again in a Satan room. It was the only thing in there. Maybe that's why it's "cursed?"

Ah! Of course.

The hard way being, I bought the expansion then realized it wouldn't install and that my BoI looked the same as it always does. And then I flipped the table.

Apparently I've heard the Mac version is dropping today though. I sure hope so!

Did a run last night with Cain, got a nice surprise ending after killing Mom's heart.

The game does seem a bit unbalanced though. Strong pickups seemed plentiful, and I accrued more money than any pre-WOTL games. I felt way over-powered by the time I finished my run.

Although I have heard that the new "challenges" make things considerably more difficult. So perhaps the expansion made things easier in some ways and harder in others?

For me, this is like 60% of the fun of this game.
