Diablo III Spoiler Thread

In the cartoon they alluded to Imperius being something other than an angel. I think the line also talked about his rage making him powerful.

Going through the game again I also find Zoltan Kulle's taunts and coercions to be much more interesting. The thing about how adria and tyrael were manipulating you to their ends is definitely more of an ah-ha moment. Also, it is clear that he knows Leah is the vessel for Diablo back in act 2.

Its actually really funny that going through the game again coop I have to resist a strong urge to say, "Can't we just kill her now? What is all this total BS about her wanting to run an inn?"

Actually I'd like to see a boss fight built around exploiting our desire for loot.

Each item in your inventory gives you a stacking +10% damage received debuff.
The drops from enemies are actually mines.
Boss hits you for a fraction of your gold amount. :)

Ah ha --half the items are mines. The other half is legit!

The more gold you carry, the more damage the boss does. Boss drops lots of gold --but it disappears as soon as he dies!

Aw, I wanted to work at her inn. As it's resident Demonhunter? Maybe trickshot to pour drinks?

I think that the Cartoon was implying that the Demons had started to corrupt Imperius -- just like they did Izaul. I think he's due for a fall, maybe become bound to Mephisto, Lord of Hate.

Wait-- just re watched the cartoon. Isn't there already an aspect of Wisdom? How can Tyrael become wisdom? Are the heavens just doubling down on wisdom? Or do they switch spots? Or a new angel of Justice entirely pops up?

Edit: The internet tells me that Malthael, the Angel of wisdom kinda went crazy after the world stone was destroyed, and left the council, but with out him dying first, no new angel of Wisdom was formed. So, the council went on, without wisdom. Er, Wisdom.

Smells a bit of expansion or sequel, eh?

The whole thing about angels being "replaced" by the crystal arch is kind of odd and never fully explained. I wonder if it's something that the Angiris Council controls or if the arch just pops out a new angel any time one dies.

And what is the significance of Tyrael ascending to the aspect of wisdom as a mortal other than chest thumping and a borrowed plot zinger from ST:TNG?

The Belial fight still sucks in co-op. That was the first time I've seen an entire co-op group get wiped and it happened twice.

I was really hoping that Imperius and Diablo would turn out to be the same person.

BTW, Diablo does drop the Staff of Herding plans. So farm that if you're having trouble instead of the miniboss.

I can't tell if Blizzard takes their stories seriously or just do what is most convenient. I know they have a full time lore guy but with the amount of retconning it seems all he does is find ways to shoehorn in ideas that fit (either thematically or gameplay reasons). For such a gaming giant I am consistently impressed with the lack of creativity in regards to their stories.

How could that possibly be easier than the miniboss? The only annoying part about the miniboss is that you have to run through one floor. And I literally mean run. You don't need to fight anybody before the miniboss. That's still going to be faster than a three-stage boss battle.

What bosses throughout the game are easiest to get to? I like going back and killing bosses but I don't want to go through several levels hunting for them.

What is up with the liquid rainbow for the staff so I can go to Whimseyshire? I've tried 20 times now to get the guy to spawn outside the cave and he just isn't there. It's quick enough to reset the game but am I doing something wrong? Do I have to kill something to make him appear?

Out of the 8 hours or so it took me to get my staff made 6 of it was spent trying to get that chest to spawn.

Because not only do you need the dungeon to spawn you also have to have the chest to spawn inside as well which doesnt always happen.

Clarified that for you.

But the third time was pretty awesome, in my very humble opinion, since all 3 of us were dead at one point during the fight -- and THEN I clicked the resurrect button and proceeded to get you both back up so we could finish Belial off.

Did you have large periods of time where the guy just wasn't there? He was there on my first runthrough on Normal and the chest wasn't there (That was my "explore 100% phase). I have not seen him since that first time.

I went down a lore hole. I have answers I think.

So, heaven and Hell used to be a single God entity. The entity split off its "good" parts from the "bad," and became a Perfect entity...unfortunately, like the plot of Twins, the bad stuff formed a second entity. The two fought for enterinty, blah blah, then split again. The evil Danny Devito dragon heads split in 7 (hatred, anguish, pain, sin, destruction, lies, and of course terror), and the body formed the burning hells. The Good Arnold Schwarzenegger twin split in 5 (valor, justice, wisdom, hope, fate), and its body formed the arch/ heaven. Angels and demons are formed from the centers of those realms. Destroying one, would basically cut the supernatural entities cycle of pseudo reincarnation off at the source. The world stone is aparrently the good gods eye? Maybe?

The important part is that Danny Devito should be the next diablo voice.

I think it just means that having Wisdom return the council, means theyll be less stupid. Less stupid about mortals too. I also think it'll tick off Imeprius/valor.

It's clear that they're part of the same coin -- bravery, and fear. I'm sure they'll be a melding down the line. IT's too tempting a plot line not to happen. Think two-face in Dark Night.

LONG POST!

People keep posting about that fight and now I'm worried for when I hit it (probably sometime later today) in Nightmare. On my normal playthrough with my Barbarian I just WTFPwned the guy first shot with no trouble at all. After listening to people Female Doggo about the fight for a week now y'all have me worried it was a glitch or something that it was so easy.

Ya it took FOREVER for him to spawn for me. Keep in mind he can spawn in 2 spots. I started off checking that area south and then running ne to check out the other spot, but that was starting to take too much time and went back to running over to the first area first and if he wasnt there just restarting.

Yeah, I found the fight easy on Normal... but surprisingly difficult in Nightmare. I may have been dragging the team down a bit, though, as I was 4 levels below if I recall correctly.

I just thought it was a really cool way to do a sort of credit roll. :)

I found the "Quality Well" in act 1, it was full of QA testers

Azmodan is apparently the power leveling sweet spot xp per minute.

I'll have to look into him. I might just go after all the Normal bosses and show them what's what. I like exacting revenge.

I'm not sure it would have gone much better on normal. I didn't even have three of the skills that I used this time at that point. That miracle resurrection was awesome. I had no idea that you had been resurrected in time and was about to hit the "revive at last checkpoint" button. I saw you walking around just in time.

Being underleveled on nightmare can be a Female Doggo but you can gain level quicker and usually get some pretty decent loot (even if it's too high level for you to use at the time). You really need to stack vitality if you're going to be underleveled and, unfortunately, you didn't have any socketed armor.

I just looked up a video of that. I think I might have found that yesterday but I didn't pay attention to the names. Either that or there's another well that's full of gold.

Just wanted to chime in after watching the end cutscene again.

The plummeting piece still intact after diablita disintegrates into ashes is the black soul stone.

To be fair, I wasn't that much better off with my monk. If I didn't dodge Belial's arm slams/exploding whirlpools it was a one-hit KO. I probably shouldn't neglect my str/vit in favor of dex so much.

I also wanted to add some talk perhaps about the inevitable expansion.

What class do you think they will add? They have 2 int, 2 dex and 1 str based class so I was thinking it would be another str based class. The first mechanics that come to mind from d2 not represented in d3 is the druid's shapechanging and javazon skills.

Here are the skill tabs for d2:

paladin - defensive auras offensive auras combat skills
sorceress - cold lightning fire
assassin - martial arts shadow traps
barbarian - warcries cmb masteries cmb skills
necro - summoning curses poison
druid - elemental shapeshifting summoning
amazon - javelin passive bow

sorceress skills are well covered by the wizard
barbarian skills are well covered by the barbarian
martial arts is covered by the monk
traps and shadow are covered by the demon hunter
auras are covered by the monk
bow skills are covered by the demon hunter
amazon passives are well covered by the monk
necro skills are covered by the witch doctor
druid elemental is covered bythe wizard

So that leaves a javelin and shapeshifting class. It is just speculation at this point of course. I'd also argue that maybe the witch doctor summons are more akin to druid summons than necro summons. So that may be a possible third tab for this character. That may seem over powered but to be honest, take any class from D3 and they'd waltz through d2.

I'm guessing they'll introduce some sort of sword-and-shield centered class.

Slacker1913 wrote:

The way that weapons work in this game, I seriously doubt it. They seem pretty keen on letting classes use a variety of weapons. I think the best you might see are runes or passives that give some sort of bonus for having a shield equipped, but AFAIK there are no abilities currently in the game that require a specific weapon type.

Well, each class has a couple of gear specialties--exclusive items for specific slots. Barbarians get 2H or 1H weapons and belts. Monks get 2H or 1H weapons and hats. Wizards get off-hands and hats. Witch doctors get off-hands (and hats?) Demon hunters get one-handed crossbows and cloaks.

So I could maybe see a new class getting special shields. But I'd be less surprised to see them get a new special weapon type. (Like javelins, for example.)
