Great Big Tracts of Land, or How I Bought a Castle

Congrats on the progress, Teneman. Keep us updated.

You really shouldn't be. People don't value what you give away for free. CHARGE!

It does have the potential for swiping cards built right in..

Chip and PIN transactions are a little awkward though.

I'm working on a Near-Field transmitter, so I can take Google Wallet

My Galaxy Nexus is not getting anywhere near that.

Question is how his wife feels about people making deposits.

Well this thread took a sudden and disturbing turn!

When I said "stay tuned for more announcements" in my post yesterday, I hadn't expected to make the first one so quickly. But I'm not exactly a patient guy (that laughter in the background is probably Oilypenguin, just ignore it), so here's the first announcement, Hoop & Stick, a Child's Play Event.

Event sounds awesome - also glad to hear that the purchase is still being made, because not many people get an oppurtunity to own their own castle

Just booked our next event, a gentleman that puts on full weekend murder mysteries, complete with a few planted actors amidst the actual guests. By all accounts his productions are Legen - wait for it - dary! He'll be putting one on for us the first weekend in November.

I put this here not as an announcement or advertisement, but because it's exciting news for two reasons.

First, he also does Zombie Outbreak weekends. Think Halo "Infection" mode in real life crossed with a murder mystery. This is a thing that will happen, and I had a feeling a few of us zombie loving Goodjers might be interested.

Second, and more importantly, scheduling this guy for the first weekend in November was a part of a convoluted way of clearing an existing reservation on a particular weekend in October. What weekend? Oh, I don't know, you'll have to ask these guys...

Spoiler:

This does not mean that we are definitely having that particular event at this particular location, Oily and his team are still making their plans. All this means is we may have cleared the major stumbling block on my side.

Dude.

Let me know how to sign up for that murder mystery weekend... Sounds awesome.

Will do Lester. The date for the first one is November 2/3 if you want to mark your calendar. We'll put it up on the website and start taking reservations as soon as we have official control of the castle. The spots sell out fast (or so I'm told), so I'll give you a heads up before we make the announcement.

We would also like more information on this weekend. Although at this time baby management may be a hindrance. Still we would sign up for news letters regarding events you are planning.

I'm working on creating a mailing list from the existing guest database now, and will likely have a newsletter at some point in the future. If you'd like to send me your email I'll add it in - but to be clear I have no idea when the newsletter will be live (it's a priority, but not top priority at this point). We've also got a new website under construction, which will likely have an RSS feed of some sort for event updates. I'm hoping that is up sometime in early to mid June.

In the meantime, the best way to ensure you stay up to date is to Like the Facebook page. I've taken over unofficial control of it and am in the process of rebuilding it. I won't be posting any event updates until we close, but as soon as we do that will be the first place I'll be updating things. Yeah, it's Facebook, I'm not particularly a huge fan myself. But on the other hand, that's where the people are.

I despise Facebook, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be the 1000th Liker of Ravenwood Castle!.

Edit: Also going to start seeding plans to bring my wife and/or kids to Ohio sometime soon. October/November events sound like fun, as does the Child's Play event, if it's early next year.

And I could kiss you for this. My PenguinCon 2012 wishes came true.

This may have been asked earlier, but are the fireplaces wood, gas or electric?

Electric and gas. One wood I believe.

So the proper answer would "Yes".

Just got an email, closing is set for June 1st! Ten days and I own a freaking castle!

Congrats! We'll be there with bells on in October

This is how I'm imagining the S&Ts will go.

I hope to visit one day, but it won't be happening this year. Gratz!

This is awesome news and it comes as I'm 99% sure I'll be moving to Cincinnati next Spring.

Please be in touch then if that happens. We'll have to welcome you in style (i.e. with lots of beer).

That is great news. I hope the next week and a half goes smoothly.
