Alright, do not read on past this post, if you do not want anything spoiled.

There seem to be varying definitions of how spoiler thread should be on these boards, but how about using Spoiler Tag for any end-game spoilers for the earlierpages? And then it's no holds barred after ONCE the general discussion gets to the ending/late-game?

The bonus level has been discovered

Minor WD achievement spoiler: last night I got one called Hotdogging for generating 3 zombie dogs using only the passive. Pretty cool

Pikey: I think you broke the page by pluralizing the spoiler tag.

Posting in the spoiler thread just in case this is considered a spoiler of sorts.

Leave it to Blizzard to spend development resources on inserting into the game a playful "f*ck you" to everyone who Female Doggoed about the color scheme of those early screenshots.

Never forget.

Got a good chuckle out of finding "the corpse of Stilgar" in the desert and then being surrounded by sand worms.

A very spoilerific question for those in the know regarding End-game/Act 4, it's been driving nuts trying to figure this out but there's VERY little information on this.

Spoiler:

Is it Jennifer Hale still voicing Diablo with voice modulators?

huh strange. i didn't notice anything.

i did fix my spoiler tag hopefully that fixes whatever was broken on your end.

(my closing tag was pluralized by accident. =/)

Secret level delivers. I called that about a year ago. Seriously, you can make a ton. And it dropped crazy amounts of jewelcrafting and smithing pages.

Do the items you need for the secret level drop at random? I got Leoric's shinbone with my second character and I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything in the same place with my first character.

No, they have to be farmed unless you're lucky.

It took me a little over 10 hours to complete normal difficulty with my monk. That is not really rushing but pretty much following the story and ignoring 90% of the side quests. I am sure I can shave off time the next time through normal as there were points where it was obvious where you should go and they gave you an arrow anyways. But there were also times where it was not obvious and they didn't give you an arrow until you were right on top of it.

My monk's bread and butter was crippling wave main attack with the rune that increases damage. I also used exploding palm a lot and had a spirit ally with water rune. I used both healing mantra and breath of healing with double healing runes but I didn't need them often with the templar healing and passives and a lot of heal on hit mods on my equipment. Lastly, I got in the habit of firing off seven sided strike at the onset of encountering a 3 pack of rare monsters. It just made life so much easier to get them hurting right away.

I must say that I am disappointed with the story. I think that is the key with Diablo in that events happen and there is a twist that is usually a slow burn of discovery and a lot of sacrifice.

They totally overcomplicated things by trying to add depth and characterization. I believe it is for the worse.

Of course there is always this (only for those that have finished normal difficulty):

Spoiler:

Okay so lets kill off Cain, one of the most beloved characters. It starts off okay as long as there is some meaning or purpose to it. But there is none.

And then make Cain's charming heir apparent, Leah, the game's incarnation of Diablo. Of course we can see this coming a mile away but don't really believe it will happen because their will be no one left to like. And I really don't see any purpose to this either.

And then lets take another likeable and nostalgic character, Adria, and make her the behind the scenes betrayer with a weak motivation for producing an offspring with the Lord of Terror. Again we can see this coming a mile away but there are so many abrupt breaks in her plot line it seems like they will abandon it only to come back with a hammer blow out of nowhere. It is supposed to be some major twist but it is a ho-hum, oh by the way reveal. Welp and we should know who is the villain for the expansion as I don't recall a boss fight with her.

And then there is Tyrael, another nostalgic and beloved character. He makes a great sacrifice and becomes mortal, ok so far pretty cool. But then he kinda just stands around and then he gets depressed in act 4 and then he ascends as another aspect Wisdom as a mortal? What? So is justice has been served so there is no need for that aspect anymore? Are hope and fate still around? And what ever happened to Imperius, is he just punked like that and gone forever? No more valor?

Oh and lets throw a random Izual battle in there for good measure.

Okay and what about the Diablo fight? As a lesson, start stacking vitality, it seems you need at least 1700 health to survive a scripted attack that happens 3 times in the fight. And what is the point of fighting Shadow Diablo? I guess they really don't want people doing boss runs. I can't think of a single one I am looking forward to again.

I think that is a major gripe with this game. I enjoyed it throughout despite my grievances, but I can't think of a single area that I'd like to farm.

BTW, those poison arm guys in act 3 are a Female Doggo. They might be easier to take out at range with a demon hunter or wizard but they are tough in groups with a monk or barb.

It's the elephant in the room so I'm just going to say it. Diablo was kinda sexy, right?

He had some shapely legs. I'll give him that.

Hurray! I can enter the spoiler thread now. Not sure where the sexy is coming from unless you get turned on by the aliens from Alien. Now that I think about it, I get it. I brought up this question when playing with 3 other fellas. Is Diablo or the Balrog from the LOTR movies more cool? It was a toss up for all of us. I think I like the Balrog better just because it has wings. Diablo's tail is pretty awesome, though...

Very.

As to the ending, sweet mercy was that cheesy. But not unexpected. Ah well, on to Nightmare I suppose.

I told you while we were fighting him and I'll tell you again. No!

Makes a certain amount of sense that the Wanderer would be the king's son. As for the human/demon offspring thing, it would explain why humans can overcome demons and succeed where angels or demons can't with regards to taking on the powers of heaven and hell. Our biggest enemy is ourselves. All in all, I don't really see it as a retcon but an expansion of what we already knew. It's probably why Tyrael told Marius "Go to the hellforge" instead of "Get another angel to go to the hellforge." As a human, its possible he could have found a way. Tyrael just backed the wrong horse is all.

I'm sorry I have to say this Certis, but I don't think it crossed my mind...maybe its just the kind of kink you're into?

Speaking of questions that don't need answering, I just don't understand why the blizzard writers went out of their way to retcon lots of diablo 1 & 2. I was expecting a good reason, but the game never presented one. Why is the dark wanderer, suddenly Leoric's "Second son"? Why does it matter if humans are the amalgam of demons/angels?

I know story really isn't a real strong suit of the original games (in-game at least, the manual was hefty). But does anyone else feel annoyed by these changes?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought I saw Diablo walking with a feminine gait. Plus, that chestplate really stuck out to me. Not that I was staring at it or anything...

One of the small details I really like is that Diablo, like the xenomorph from Alien series, tends to retain something of his host's form. In the first game he was kinda smallish, reflecting the fact that he was being reborn from a child (yeah right, this was probably from engine limitations, but I can dream); in the second game he got a more larger, slightly beastly form, and in D3 he was somewhat feminine.

Ugh. Farming the items for the Staff of Herding is quite tedious. And I haven't even tried to get the "hard" one yet.

Aside from the fact that the mage and warrior were a different ethnicity and the rogue was a woman...

That is one of the things that bugged me a little is that they could have and didn't make the dark wanderer gender neutral. (in d2 as well)

Does anyone else wonder if the writers wrote the whole "prime evil" thing with a straight face?

Yeah, they made the warrior Wanderer, rogue became Blood Raven and sorcerer is the mage you kill in Arcane Sanctuary.

You just have to look at whimsyshire to find your answer.

took me around 8 hours over a few days to finally get all the pieces. The piece out of the 2nd act was around ~50 runs where out of those 50 it was around 6 times the dungeon spawned before it dropped my piece of the rainbow.

Does anybody want to help me get the gibbering gemstone and the plans for the staff of herding tomorrow evening? For the gibbering gemstone you need to search the Fields of Slaughter to find a cave so I figure it would be easier with at least two people. And, the plans are dropped by Izual. Even though I'm up to level 40, I'd prefer some help running through part of act IV with some help.

edit:

I did that one and the mushroom today. Had to restart the cathedral level about a dozen times for to get the mushroom and it took over 20 runs to even get the merchant to show up to open the mysterious cave. I didn't even know it could spawn without the rainbow inside. That would have really pissed me off.

The staff of herding has to be purchased again for Nightmare. Recipe is 1g, but to craft it cost 200k.

Hearing Deckard Cain talking about the "Lesser" Evils and the "Prime" Evils reminded me of being served at Starbucks.

Can I have a Grande Evil to go please?
