DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

I agree... do everything up to the vehicles. Plus it helps map your keys in a safe environment.

Ugh, yesterday 3 of us were on a server with no zombies so we tried to group together before we went on another server. Right off the bat another survivor killed me which I GUESS is part of the game. What I don't like is the next time someone started shooting me in the ass, I turned around and started firing at them. We both ended up killing each other but what sucks is the next time I spawned I was a bandit! The game has to allow defending of yourself, right?

Not yet. You still lose humanity points. You can earn them back by killing zombies and healing other people and stuff.

you lose humanity points by killing bandits too?

Just bought Arma 2 oa just for this mod, doesn't hurt that it's on sale on amazon.

Ugh so pissed at myself right now. Made a solo daylight infiltration of the Stary Sobor military base, found a MP5SD and three mags for it, also found a 4th mag for my DMR, passed on a PDW in favor of my 1911 and it's more frequent mags. Anyway made my way back out of the base and to a log off point. Wanted to see what the MP5SD looked liked so I dropped my DMR and MP5SD mags to the what I thought was the ground but didn't realize I had my backpack open so they dropped into nothingness.

So now I have a DMR with 1 extra Mag and a MP5SD with the 30 rnds in its loaded mag.

Guess I'll need to make a few more raids here to replenish my mags I lost.

Count yourself lucky. I made it to the big airfield as well. Raided the hangers and got the uzi. Also went through the buildings and found a tool kit in the shed, along with some barbed wire. Thought that could be useful. In the building tower I found AK 74U with a couple of mags. Pretty much cleared out the whole eastern side of the airfield. Except the control tower. I could not figure out how to get into it (and still haven't--so if someone wants to give me a hint...) so I kept standing up to try. Eventually I aggroed. Ran into one of the hangers. Seems zombies are somewhat capable of running inside those. They get confused a lot, but can still run. Anyways... Managed to kill off the horde. But there were more around the control tower. I decided to kill them all off, since I already started shooting. I climbed ladders on the roof of the fire station and tossed a smoke down in front of the building. This grouped all the Zeds in the spot and I could pick them off with ease. Except one survived. He was sort of under the building I was standing on. So I edged up to get a bead on him and... well you can guess what happened. Hours of crawling on my belly through hundreds of Zeds... all for naught.

I could not figure out how to get into it (and still haven't--so if someone wants to give me a hint...)

Every video I've seen around the NW airfield control tower shows people having problems getting in the front door. There should be a ladder on the North side of the build that leads up to the control tower level and you can get in from there.

Even more pissed now, I got discon from a server when I was right next to a deer stand north of Sobor. Logged on to a different server and another survivor was already in the stand and had just started the animation to come down the ladder. He must have saw me at that point because he immediately went back up into the stand. I put a tree between us and issued two friendly messages with his name attached to them, lowered my gun, and backed slowly away facing the stand. I then tried to beat feet around a pine tree and use that as cover, he drilled me at that point one shot one kill.

Made the run back up to my corpse collecting an AKM on the way, back to my body and was hoping that the dude was still in the area, but saw him log discon about halfway up.

I was on after lunch just long enough to spend an hour trying to log in, and then another hour working too quickly and getting killed. Moondragon was there, hoping you kept the AK I scored off the bandit we were engaged with at the power plant.

I have most all of the day tomorrow to myself, which is amazing. I plan to log on in the morning, around 10 AM central, and try to see how far I can get towards a military base and a decent scoped weapon.

Man last two times I've either logged or been disconnected from the server I've ended up unconscious when I logged back in. Really annoying laying out in the middle of a field unable to do anything when you log into the game.

If you're reading this thread and trying to talk yourself out of buying ARMA from the Amazon sale, note that it will take several hours to download. Maybe the delayed gratification will be enough to keep you away. You'll just be making more forum posts and requesting a Steam group invite and stuff.

Speaking of which, can I get an invite to that Steam group?

Almost messed that up and bought the wrong game. Amazon was super nice and let me return it so I could by the right one. Still this download is taking forever...

Spent a decent 90 minutes on Ohio 1 this evening. It was daytime there. Virginia 11 was as well, but flaked out. I'm west of Elektro near a lighthouse on the coast ATM. I'll be back on tomorrow in the AM.

I find myself balanced on the edge of picking this up. I am interested enough in the game that I'm reading this thread. Trying to wait for a Steam sale, but outlook not so good. Go Go Gadget Willpower.

One for me too, please.

I tried playing a night for a bit, then gave up and logged on to Ohio 1, which was conveniently at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Wandered inland for a while, trying to avoid everyone. Saw one other player so far, and no zombies until I got close to one of the villages. I shot one, but there are a bunch more wandering around and I'm holed up in the middle of a barn. Little worried about what I'm going to find once I log back on, but the tension is part of the fun.

I have no idea where I am either...the two things I'm looking for right now are a better weapon and a roadsign.

Looks like there may be an update sometime today.

I got a text from my cousin yesterday saying "Have you heard about this DayZ game? I'm thinking about getting it.". After a short discussion with him, I gave in and bought the Amazon Digital copy. I look forward to see everybody on the other side.

Nope, just survivors. I killed a bandit earlier and my humanity is still 2500.

When you first login it flashes your location in the bottom right corner. Made a note of that and then look at an online map.

Hey can I get an invite to the Day Z group? I just downloaded the game from Amazon last night and I am in the process of installing the mod. I hope to play some this afternoon.

If you're downloading from Amazon, don't forget to install the 1.60 patch: http://www.arma2.com/supply/game-updates
Mine installed as 1.59.

Oh god I had a fun if horrible ending run just recently.

I was scrounging around a town and I basically hit the jackpot. I had more food and water then I needed. A rifle and a better pistol then the starter with ammo for both. Plus knives, matches and tools for cooking. It was going great. Then I was forced to shoot a zed, and at that point the entire town decided to rush me. I ran for it, finding a very narrow dock from which to defend myself. It was too small for them to walk across it. So I thought I was safe. Then they started swimming. At this point I jump into the water and swim to the other island. I turn around to see the zombie swim team still chasing me. Like some twisted tower defense game I shoot them down while they did the breaststroke. Ran out of bullets before I ran out of zed. Still I manage to hightail it to a house, and praise the lord I found some ammo. While sitting there a zombie walks into the house and directly towards me. I shot it bring a whole other hoard after me. I ran away and jumped off a rather high point back into the water. This caused me to lose nearly all me gear, and the zombies jumped in after anyway. I manage to swim all the way back to the docks i started at, and climbed onto land finding ammo in a little booth. Ammo for my rifle which was now at the bottom of the lake. At which point another zombie decided to say hello, promptly killing me.

That was awesome and probable my best run to date.

Had a hell of a few days just trying to get into the game, and this morning was no exception. I did run into Moondragon last night, and he gave me back the AK he scrounged off my corpse the last time I died. No ammo, but it was a good start. Me, my trusty Makarov, and a new CZ550 made our way north west from Chrnogorsk.

My next few sessions ended in frustration, couldn't log in anywhere. Got linked up with Taidaan and Vega, but we were stuck in a night map. We logged out, but couldn't get onto another day server. We sucked it up, lit a chem light, and started heading north to Zub, a small castle I've been two once before. We found it filled with only a few zombies, another compass for Taidaan, and a 1911 for me. We then endured no less than two reboots of Chicago 2 server before it stabilized, and then Taidaan and I began to make our way towards the airfield.

Low crawling across a huge open field Taidaan spotted a bandit behind us, running. But he kept going and didn't see us. When we made it to a stand of trees south of the runway we came across a nearly working, half-filled with fuel car. In the boot I found a magazine for my AK, tripling my ammo stockpile to 30. I also had a green dot site. Pretty slick.

IMAGE(http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb104/charhal/ArmA2OA2012-05-2015-03-31-91.jpg)

We hugged the trees, Taidaan taking point, and low crawled our way along the eastern edge of the airfield. Moondragon, teaming up with ErikTheRed way to the south at the time, was talking us in warning us of the hangers and how they don't slow down zed the same way barns do.

IMAGE(http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb104/charhal/ArmA2OA2012-05-2015-31-23-21.jpg)

We bypassed them and went for some smaller buildings north of them along an access road. We breached the wall and immediately found ourselves somewhat trapped by hoppers north and south. We found a gap in their pattern and crawled into the firestation. The rear door was closed, meaning someone had been there recently. I popped in first since I had the automatic. Clear, save for some barbed wire. It had been expertly placed in front of the doors leading to the tower. Now that I think about it, if we had gone outside the house to the ladder we could have come down the tower and been relatively safe behind the barbed wire. We didn't have a lot of time to think though, because through the wall a zed caught Taidaan's scent. As it came in the back door he hit it square in the chest. He had no choice. The horde streamed in through the open firestation bay doors. We took down maybe 20 or 30 of them before they stopped. We were very low on ammo but alive.

IMAGE(http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb104/charhal/ArmA2OA2012-05-2015-47-49-83.jpg)

If I had been thinking correctly we would have gone up that ladder, but I wasn't. I just wanted more ammo so I could feel safe. The control tower was across the tarmac, zeds were quiet and distant. We had a good chance to make it there if we were quick. Taidaan made it, but at least four zeds pinned me up against a pile of rubbish at the main door. I dropped one, maybe two, before they ate me. Taidaan never heard them, so maybe it was a glitch. I know that the zeds are controlled my the local computer processes, so perhaps his PC came unsynced from mine. I'll never know. He was able to kill the rest of the zeds and loot my corpse though.

I think next time I'm going to make my way to the airfield and log out, have a nice meditative walk around town IRL, and come back the next day and hit it hard with a clear head. Half the battle is getting where you want to go. Maybe we stockpile GWJrs near that airfield and then, one weekend evening, we have like 8 or 10 of us run through covering each other and kick some ass.

Anyone have the stones to try and set up a server?

Edit: Just got this from Taidaan over Steam chat - Taidaan: server crashed. finally got back in, and no zombies spawned so I started to get out of the airfield. Found an M4 in the firehouse on my way out, and as soon as I equipped it, I got shot in the face.

I'd be in there with you guys if I didn't have a week-long trip starting tomorrow. I'll see how things are going when I get back and if they are good I'll join up with you folks.

I found a sniper rifle in the barn I holed up in last night. That would have been more useful on a server that had the automatic rangefinding on, but I eventually managed to guess the range. By that time I was running low on bullets and water. Running out of bullets for the pistol was bad, running out of ammo for the sniper rifle was worse. Ended up getting chased by a zombie across who knows how far. I tried to take shelter in a deer stand, but didn't manage to make it to the ladder. Final count: 12 dead zombies, one dead survivor.

Someone please do, I need someone with admin powers to kick the racist jerks that were randomly spamming chat because they were waiting for server response.

Edit: Looks like this guy is the one to talk to, if someone wanted to get serious. Or do it yourself, though running a server sounds a bit more involved than normal, because of the persistence and alpha state.

I am currently on a hill above a military base. The sun is setting (in real time) and I'm watching a bandit running around in the base shooting zombies. I don't want to engage him, since he's clearly got more bullets left than I do, but sitting up here and watching through my sniper scope is unique.
