There are some great new interviews out there with Rocket, the creator of Day Z.

I find it interesting that his next step is to add environmental dangers to the game. Weather and temperature, infections, hypothermia, etc. You'll actually need to seek shelter if its raining and camp fires and tents will have an actual benefit. I thought it was pretty hardcore as it is, but that will take it to a whole different level. I actually can't wait to see how it plays out.

I'm a pretty typical GWaJ, with most of my gaming coming in fits of console action or light PC stuff (really just Minecraft at the moment). In another thread (or two) I've been talking about building a gaming machine. Is ArmA2 very resource-intensive, i.e., am I going to need a pretty modern GPU or can I get away with a mid-range card?

IIRC and don't quote me on this, Arma2 is fairly CPU intenstive.

I run it at 1680x1050 with lots of bell's and whistles with a modest system - Dual core E5200 and GTX 560 Ti.

View/draw distance is the real killer with this engine, since they've optimized it quite well with patches.

Yeah, the videos look nice, although movement animation seems a little choppy and I see bodies sliding around like graphical glitches regularly. So, your experience suggests I don't need an i5-2500k but probably need a beefy GPU. Danke.

No, I believe you need a good CPU and don't worry so much about the GPU. That CPU should be more than adequate though, it's what I would buy if I were upgrading.

Thank gods I found you all. I've been wandering around a castle for two nights searching for water pumps. Been telling my story to Twitter trying to find people to play with. I have been on Vent in the DayZ room and would love to team with someone. I play 8 CT onwards during the week. Gumbie, we need to hang ou regardless.

I found some dead bandits and have a map, watch, compass... The whole 9 yards. Someone be on Vent tonight!

i didn't even realize there was a dayz channel on vent.

Is 8CT the server name? I'll try and install it tonight but I probably won't be able to play/ check in to Vent until later tonight.

No, 8:00 central time. I have yet to find a home server. Something that is Zulu +12 hours (game is day when it is nigh Central Time). I played on a stable French server two nights ago and caught a bit of dawn light, but otherwise all my play time is in total darkness. Now that I have a map and compass land navigation is easier, but without help entering towns at night is tedious verging on suicidal.

Edit: aside from the tutorials in Operation Arrowwhead, this is about the most informative tutorial on gear and inventory management I have read.

Is there some spot that I'm missing when I'm searching for supplies? I've spent about 90 minutes in-game (different games/servers) and the only thing I've found a couple steel bolts, a bandage, and an improved backpack.

Enabled... is there a steam group?

That is the map I have been using in combination with the ingame map, which is amazing. All my odds and ends I found on dead bandits in a grocery store in Chernogorsk. There are some decent pistols and long guns in that town as well. Heavily trafficed as it is on the spawn beach though.

If there's not, there should be so we can post announcements.

The type of stuff that spawns is based on the building it is in. So, in and around hospitals you get a lot of bandages, pain killers, and morphine. Grocery stores you get a lot of food and water items. And military structures you get the nice weapons and higher end items. And then I think the towns and villages you just get random items. There's also random dynamic helicopter crash sites that you might come across that have nice items.

Large map showing location of various types of buildings

From what I hear the military structures tend to have a high population of bandits, so be extremely careful when approaching. But high risk, high reward.

-Edit-
Here's another map. Mostly the same, but town and city names are easier to read.

I'm expanding my GWJ resume by making one. Stand by...

Oh, I have no clue what I'm doing, so we'll see how it turns out.

Ok, the group is up, more or less.

Due to the popularity of Day Z, I'd prefer to limit the members to GWJers via this thread. I'll probably hand out admin privileges like candy so I don't always have to be around to invite folks and administer things.

I also cleverly named it to throw off search engines, and because I think pronouncing Day Z as "Day Zed" sounds cooler than "Day-zee". Or you can think of it as "GWJ: Day Z'ed", whichever helps you get past my terrible naming ideas.

Here's the link: Gamers with Jobs: Day Zed

invite please.

I'm using a 42MB PDF that shows pretty much everything in Chernarus, except deer stands. It was made for ArmA II, so there are no specific Day Z things, but it is still insanely useful.

You can find it on this page, near the bottom. Beware: it is every bit of 42 MB to download, so you may not want Adobe/Foxit/Whatever to open it in your browser! "Right-click>Save Link As..." is your friend.

I'd like an invite to the Steam group, link is in my sig. Thanks!

Elycion, Lucky Wilbury, Redhwk, TheWanderer, Vega, Grubber, MoonDragon, and Karmajay all got invites. If you didn't request one, but I've seen you post here and I already have you on my Steam friends list, an invite was sent. Unless I forgot/didn't notice, because that happens too.

Id like invite please to steam group. Lahndon. Thank you

Lahndon, Lester_King, and LockAndLoad all have invites. Gumbie, I can't send you one, which probably means someone else beat me to the punch.
