Tex Murphy Kickstarter (May 2012)

The creators of the Tex Murphy series have decided to jump on to the Kickstarter bandwagon. However they claim they are not starting it until May so they can get ideas for prizes and get fan feedback.

I will follow with a link to the story shortly..

I'd be up for that. I loved those games. Not sure it would be the same unless they had the same actor as Tex, and I don't know how well he has aged.

It's the same actor (Chris Jones). He is the lead creator of the games and is behind the kickstarter. He's aged damn well too.

(I don't want to steal McDonis' thunder. Suffice it to say, this looks like another win.)

So yeah.....this needs to happen.

yeah. I forgot until I saw that that he was one of the creators as well.

Played Mean Streets back in the day but that was it. It was pretty fun. I didn't realize that the several sequels had anything to do with Mean Streets until a few years ago. Just based on the humor of the YouTube clip I'd say they were worth a donation.

I played Under a Killing Moon way back when, but my computer really wasn't capable of handling it, so it wasn't a pleasant experience. Might kick in, once the Kickstarter's live.

You know, I just never got into these games. I did try them, but I didn't like them at all. They just seemed kinda crappy. People keep talking about them, and I've never been able to connect their enthusiasm with the strong feeling of 'crap game' I got, way back when.

Normally, I like adventure games, so I wonder why my memory and everyone else's are so divergent?

I can understand especially if you played them say past 2000. For their day it required a pretty hefty rig to run but those 1994-1997 graphics are kinda hard on the eyes now. The main draw for me was Story and comedy. I really liked Tex as a character and got emotionally invested in his story. I think another element that made these so good was for their time there was a lot of content and depth to the story. A lot of FMV games were just mailing it in or worse, this series did a pretty good job in writing and story progression.

Having said that some of the paid actors were definately not giving their best. The guy from dances with wolves comes to mind.

I really hope they can pull of a new game but I seriously doubt it, the Tex fan base has been getting smaller and smaller over the years (its been 15 years since the last game) and have to wonder if that many folks will fund a new FMV game. Its not like wasteland where there are prob tens of thousands of fanboys out there.

I am one of the tens of Murphy fanboys. Just played all 5 in a row after getting them on GoG. Same as above. Character, story and humor were what made those games memorable. "Danger is like Jello. There's always room for more"
The later games were also some of the first I experienced that kind of had multiple paths based on your conversation choices. I also just love FMV which I know puts me in a minority.
And my experience with them makes it memorable. Tex Murphy and the Myst series were games that I played along side my mom.

I do understand the worry about not getting enough backing to make a new Tex Murphy game. That's why its up to us to be vocal and spread the word. I've been posting the story in different places and am going to call in favors from friends whose kickstarter projects I've donated to in the past.

It appears they made it to 175K in 2 days....

Seeing what happend to LSL I think Tex still has a good shot of making it. I hope they can make a good tex game on 500K...

Bump (over my new thread). Best news ever! Great "please contribute" video posted:

If you are reading this and you enjoyed a 90's adventure then frankly you owe it to yourself to give a few bucks to this project.

I know that sounds self-serving but its true. This series was one of the best adventures out there and it more than deserves a measly 15 bucks from ya.

Update 6 posted to kickstarter today! Looking good but they could really use more help. Maybe a shout out on the podcast? Donate many monies!

We did it!!! Tex Murphy is fully funded! FMV games will live again!

I dropped $15 on Tex Murphy. Looking forward to the Two Guys from Andromeda meeting their goal next.

Review of Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure.

Ultimately, it's Murphy himself who saves not only the day, but his game as well. The most beloved adventure games in history are those with strong charisma. Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure has it. Or, to use a more appropriate term, it's got moxie. If you're a fan of the noir genre or '90s adventure games, you're gonna like the cut of its jib.
