I don't even know if I'll be able to find anyone local to play this 2-player game with, but I think I need to get this DS game:

It's the newest Jason Roehr game. He thinks about games in very interesting ways.

f*ck, me neither. But that sounds really awesome.

Yup, and I don't have anyone local either. Or, at least, not often enough that it'd make it worth the cost.

Just backed it. I wonder what the physical inclusions are in the limited edition game, seems a really odd thing.

For the tabletop crowd:

Pinnacle Entertainment just started a kickstarter for a new Deadlands RPG setting based in 1930's New Orleans. Think "The Big Sleep" with zombies, voodoo, and crazy weird science. Like Deadlands Reloaded it will use the Savage Worlds game system. Color me excited!

It's a card game where 2-4 players act as tentacles, disguised as students, who go around an all-girl university trying to "snatch" the other students. The video is really a must watch if you are interested in hatred.

Don't rush for your wallets from sympathy, the project was funded quickly, they've near twice the goal. Of particular note is the variety of $500 backer incentives: you have your wife/girlfriend drawn by their artist and put into the cardgame as one of the women to be fondled. Those are all sold out, of course.

Damn Hedgewizard for sending me this link. I watched the video and now I feel like I need to scrub all the skeeze off of me with a brillo pad.

I've been thinking about kickstarting a board game where you put chloroform on a rag and stalk people. It's called, "What the f*ck is wrong with you?" I've already got the expansion planned, "Welcome To Prison Rape." Who wants in on the ground floor?

Snark aside, are you at least going to bring your copy to the next S&T?

If you're down for playtesting and sign this "I won't sue him no matter where he touches me" form, sure.

I won't do it without the excuse of alcohol.

Looks like that Kickstarter was cancelled at some point. Not terribly surprising although it looks like they hit their funding level....

They moved funding to their own site: http://girls.sodapopminiatures.com/c...

I'm not sure if canceling a kickstarter gets you the money. They must've wanted a bigger cut.

Perusing the comments it seems that Kotaku's coverage garnered enough protest of the game that Kickstarter itself pulled the plug.

I don't approve of the game or the repression of the game. The company is now taking donations on their own website, essentially doing exactly what KS was doing, but without giving up a cut. It'll get funded again, because there are plenty of weird people.

Reading further, it seems Kotaku's hourly attempts at sensationalist bullsh*t headline writing has cost these people some of their livelihood. Commenters are circulating a letter to send KS stating that the articles that drew the game ire were misrepresenting the game as depicting rape. I don't know anything about the game (nor do I plan to further investigate), but if that's true, f*ck Kotaku.

I don't really need extra reasons to say that about Kotaku.

That seems doubtful.

Ah. Like I said, not surprising. Sudden cancellation like that would indicate someone started complaining...

I'd be really surprised if they weren't expecting some level of controversy from the subject matter. This was the first time I'd heard of the project (and I barely skimmed their KS page), but tentacles and girls is pretty much asking for trouble no matter how you slice it.

I don't really need extra reasons to say that about Kotaku.

Agreed.

I don't take this tentacle game as in the same group, but I do think there's a place in the medium for Super Columbine. I would write something pretentious and academic about your proposed game.

HEY. Do you like video games? How about beer? Comics? What about sustainable development?

Because Arcade Brewery, that's why. Seriously. Give them all your damn monies.

That looks pretty cool! Too bad it's a decidely Chicagoan adventure. When they open a Bay Area arm, let me know.

Same boat, but on the other coast.

This reminds me, I'm actually really surprised Harpoon hasn't done something game themed during PAX season since they're just down the street from the BCEC.

Deadspin is the only part of Gawker media that I have any use for, and even then I don't go there anymore. Kotaku = blargh.

io9 is pretty cool.

And so is this kickstarter!

Gizmodo is the only one that I ever use.

Learning about this from the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland last week, I do hope this gets funded, mainly for the crew and Mr. Moyer’s sake. The art panel I sat in on with him allowed me a little insight on his experience with Kickstarter. He mentioned almost with exasperation that it's not a fit for him. I sheepishly did not extend the discussion as I was there to engage about Lovecraftian art. It would seem Kickstarter is something that put him out of his element and hasn't been fun to handle. All in all, more power to Mr. Moyer and crew and when this does come out, I plan to buy it, including the fantastic pewter figurines.

Enabled as well. I'm having a real hard time finding boxer briefs that I like that last a while. $75 bucks for seven "pairs" is pretty great.

Kitaru

Kitaru differs from other RPGs with its many mini-games, turn based active-time battles and intuitive touch controls. The epic story of Kitaru unfolds over numerous episodes. The action packed game mixes RPG classics with postmodern storytelling. Kitaru features turn based active-time battles, third person exploration and conversation-driven NPC interactions. Battles are turn based in active time, where every ability has the potential to affect the flow of time for one or more characters. Strategy comes from players using time to their advantage. A command queue allows for macro management. Covert ops, assassinations, diplomatic duties and game-altering decisions are all at the mercy of the players in this intense narrative.

Kitaru seems to take a lot from Ghost in the Shell (especially the second movie), but I'm good with that.

Not sure if I'm going to pledge or wait for the finished project.

Since I missed the Kickstart, I'd love a review if anyone goes for the knit boxers. Comfort can be hard to find.

That is what I ordered, sounds like it will be a couple of months for delivery though.

World Realms

$11 pledge gets you a copy of the game.

19 hours left in my Kickstarter:
Poul Ruders: New Symphonic Music

We're about $2,800 shy of the goal

Probably worth mentioning this is by the Kingdom of Loathing guys which has two Hall of Fame threads. Also, $37 gets you a KoL item as well (no details on the item yet I think).

Understatement. Kingdom of Loathing dudes should be mentioned before the actual Kickstarter link.
