DDO Orien server catch all - Static Group nights Tuesday and Thursday 8PM EST

Any thoughts from the more experienced players on whether I should be sinking skill points into intimidate? Some of the stuff I've read has talked about it as being essential, but others have said to just ignore it, and that I should be able to generate enough threat to tank adequately as a barbarian based purely on my dps. Or are we casual enough that I shouldn't worry about it too much?

I would not worry about it much. Barbarians should be doing enough damage to keep aggro on boss mobs just be being in melee with them. I'll quote Shade who is known for being the #1 barbarian player on the DDO forums.

No (active use of) intimidate? :
Your a low AC death dealer, you do not want agro, you want the enemy dead before he makes you dead. Hold the agro with your weapon when the situation demands.

Balance should be your top skill to keep maxed. Have enough Tumble to dodge and a good Jump.

I recommend Shade's guide for playing a Barbarian
http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...

He also has links in there for specific builds.

Humm...well it looks like I wont be needed to do any utility...I think I might make a barbarian/rouge. I know it sounds weird but I've used it for pen and paper d&d and neverwinter nights back in the day. It depends if sneak attacks can be done with a 2hander or not.

They do, but won't be as effective as those of a full rogue. Before anyone gets into multiclassing they should look into the pure-class benefits (called capstones) they are giving up and weigh those perks against what they're gaining from the other class. Capstone enhancements are generally very powerful.

Here's the list.

If you do decide to MC rogue it is generally advisable to start as a rogue and then MC into whatever else, to get the high number of skill points they get at the first level. It kinda depends how many levels of rogue you want to have.

I went with Fighter. Going to make it a kensei.

Liquidmantis just created some channels on the Vent server for us. If you need access to the vent server details are here:

Subbing but not able to play right now - 3 month old son, etc.

I played with the GWJ crew at launch and absolutely loved the DDO dungeons, which I've never seen the like of in any other game.

Pfft. I have a 4 month old and more kids, Fed.

I'm tempted to join, but I'm primary caretaker for my two-year-old (wife works evenings from home), and 9 PM is right about when I'm getting him to sleep.

I have a friend key to the beta for the expansion if anyone wants it.

I've thought about it, and if people are willing to accept the possibility that I may be playing with a tired/not-so-tired two-year-old on my lap.

So, if folks are okay with that, I'd be happy to
play a healing/support cleric for the first group.

I'm good with it. I regularly have a cranky 19 month old on my lap while I game.

I have no problems with it. We are just playing to have fun, we are not expecting pro level performance.

Are we going to have to do the Korthos quests on normal the first time? I daresay AnimeJ and Toanstation's collective brood could beat the quests together on that difficulty.

The way it reads to me, yea. There's definitely room to roll through them again on higher difficulty if folks wanted to as well, I'd imagine.

We should start the first couple on normal since there are a few players in the group that have never played DDO before. Once people are comfortable we can start doing quests at a higher difficulty. There is an XP streak bonus for doing multiple quests on higher difficulties if it's the 1st time your character as completed them.

I started a Gamers with Jobs Guild on Orien. With 10 people playing together it should not take very long to get an Airship.

I cannot send Guild invites to my Alt since there is no mailbox access while on the Snowy side of Korthos. When we get going tonight I'll make one of you an officer and then you can invite me.

My Artificer is a Warforged named Safehouse. I'll have him sitting right where you exit the tutorial area. He will hard to miss.

I'm all set: human cleric named Mairghred. She's been through the tutorial, and I've spirit-bound her to the tavern. Currently, she has Shield of Faith and Divine Favor prepped, but I'm open to suggestions/requests.

Should I go with human or dwarf for a Kensei fighter? I can't find too much about the human that I'm really into aside from the extra feat, and the armored mastery enhancements for the dwarf look nice but I'm also not sure how much dex or weapons I want to have. I do think I'm going after Whirlwind attack, so I'm not sure what would be good for that kind of build.

Are you going Two Weapon fighting or Two handed? For Two weapon go human with a DEX of at least 15 (You can get tomes later to increase it to 17 for the later feats) Spend the extra feat on Exotic Weapon Khopesh.

If you are going two handed weapon then go dwarf and use a great axe. Normally for a THF build I would say do not worry at all about Dex, but since you want Whirlwind attack, you will need at least 13 points in both DEX and INT to meet the requirements. That is a very big investment for a new player that does not have 32 point builds unlocked yet.

Didn't this start off being planned for Diabloday.. I mean Tuesday? I can't make it tonight, sadly. If you guys fill me in on what quests you completed, I will try to catch up before next week.

I'll keep a list on the 1st post with what we ran each session and approximately what level and rank we ended up on.

ok...so I dropped Whirlwind. And I found a guide for Two weapon fighters that made an interesting case for an Elf twf that I wanted to try out. if this build goes to hell I'll just change over to a lvl3 sorcerer that I made on the server a long time ago...not sure why I made that sorcerer a female but its already lvl3 so I'm not going to bother re rolling it.

Hello folks! I'd be interested in joining in if I'm able. I was thinking of going rogue. Not in the crazy, dooming the party as I do my own thing kind of way. I mean the disabling traps and finding secrets sort of way.

Ok, all set here as well. Mellesara, Elven Cleric, Divine Favor, Shield of Faith and Cure Light Wounds set to go.

Safehouse (That's me!) will be in front of the Tavern ready to hand out Guild invites. Also I'm in vent.

I'm finishing up dinner and then I'll head on. Fourd, Dwarven Barbarian, carrying a big axe.

I should have posted Kirwinn is my rogue name

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight. Had a blast. I'll update our progress on the 1st post tomorrow.

Hope to see everyone again next week!

That was fun. Thanks Arovin for organizing the group, and thanks everyone else for participating.
