DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

Currently the clock on the Portland server is set back about 8 hours or so, talked to the admin he wasn't sure if he was going to keep it that way or not.

To sprint double tap w key but dont expect to be able to shoot accurately after sprinting because of being out of breathe. Dont go up ladders with a hand gun, you may fall off and die or beak legs when you reach the top, because of a bug I believe, go up instead with a rifle.

Ah, so that's what happened to me last night. If I aggro too many zeds and start running for my life, my typical escape plan consists of looking for the nearest ladder or stairs. I made it to a ladder and climbed up only to fall off at the top and land right in the middle of the horde chasing me.

Anybody want to gift ArmA 2 to me? This game looks amazing. This is the zombie game I've always wanted. Which is weird, because I thought I was done with zombies....

I thought that the mod works with the free ArmA II they are giving away?

You still need the OA paid xpac and even then people say it's even harder to get going than the full game.

Ergh. Don't have expansion.

Tagged.

Buy it and support the devs. I'm glad Arma 2 is getting some love finally.

Steam is showing Arma as the top seller. Looks like plenty of people are dying to try out this mod.

I'm considering emailing that Steam sales chart to every company that doesn't allow their game to be modded.

You see how many sales you're potentially throwing away, folks?

But you cannot sell mappacks with 3-4 maps (2 of them from the last game!) if people could just make them themselfs. Not to speak about those poor designers that could get outclassed by non-industry people!

I know it's a satire post, but seeing as I have actually heard this before...

Pretty sure ARMA's still sold expansion packs.
TF2 is totally hurting on it's microtransaction model.
And how do you think the designers got good in the first place?

Is there a group of goodjers playing? I'm interested but don't really want to play solo.

After reading a bit more about the mod and watching some videos, I enabled myself and am installing ArmA now.

There's not a huge group of us playing, but I wonder if it's worth setting up a Steam group to make it easier. Or maybe just list everyone in the OP.

16 GB to install ArmA and AO. Guess I'll have a little more downtime until I can play.

I will bite the bullet and buy the ArmA 2 expansion as soon as I get confirmation that this is, in fact, cool for more than 15 minutes, and not another The Ship or something.

I would if I wasn't so poor. I might figure out something once I get my next check....

I suspect you'll see a sale soon, or wait until the Steam summer sale.

So I've put some time into it and, when I can actually get into a server and start, it's been great. I've gotta curb my L4D instincts to kill every last zombie. It's led to each of my 3 demises.

There are some great new interviews out there with Rocket, the creator of Day Z.

Just a heads up but Amazon is having a sale on ArmA2:CO for $14.99. That's right on the edge of my impulse buy threshold...

Very tempting, I hate buying stuff not on steam, but Amazon will work. I bought a digital copy of Farcry 2 with them and I never had a bad experience.

Downloading now.

I'm a pretty typical GWaJ, with most of my gaming coming in fits of console action or light PC stuff (really just Minecraft at the moment). In another thread (or two) I've been talking about building a gaming machine. Is ArmA2 very resource-intensive, i.e., am I going to need a pretty modern GPU or can I get away with a mid-range card?

IIRC and don't quote me on this, Arma2 is fairly CPU intenstive.

I run it at 1680x1050 with lots of bell's and whistles with a modest system - Dual core E5200 and GTX 560 Ti.

View/draw distance is the real killer with this engine, since they've optimized it quite well with patches.

Yeah, the videos look nice, although movement animation seems a little choppy and I see bodies sliding around like graphical glitches regularly. So, your experience suggests I don't need an i5-2500k but probably need a beefy GPU. Danke.

Willpower... fading...

just had my most successful run, successfully cleared out a village and found a new backpack (that was it, nothing else in the village). Started clearing out another village but ran out of bullets so I bolted for a nearby lighthouse and figured there'd be something there (there wasn't). I climbed the ladder and figured I'd go get a drink, because obviously zombies can't climb ladders.

Spoiler:

apparently they can, I came back and was dead.
