Fourteen episodes is a good run??

Ask the Young Ones and Fawlty Towers.

That's the area I'd like explored too. Either in comics, or cartoon, or perhaps a mini-series (which is certainly doable, though harder with an aging cast).

All this Firefly talk has me teary-eyed....

The only thing I see that might have a chance of "ruining" things is the fact that, by the time new episodes could be filmed, the cast would be 11 or 12 years older and would appear that way on camera, even with Hollywood magic.

The candle that burns brightest and all that...

Seriously, many of the actors are busy now. If this WERE to come to pass, the only way I see it happening would be in animated form. Cheaper, easier on the actors' schedules, etc...

I'd like to see more licensed content in the Serenity universe, like the prequel / sequel comics on Shepard's Book's history and Wash's wake. I wouldn't mind seeing an animated series, but as much as I liked Firefly the TV show, it's window has come and gone. I'd like Joss to use his Avengers money to pursue a new project, not wallow in the past.

Maybe at some point we could have Firefly: TNG or Firefly: Persephone but the original opportunity has passed. I'd hate to see a middle-aged crew trying and failing to recreate the glory days.

I think this is where the best opportunity would lie as well. They laid out a solid framework for a society, and solid writers could take it in any direction that they wanted. Picking it up a decade after the alliance coverup around Miranda is out allows for interesting possibilities as for what may have happened to society, and would allow for the occasional cameo by the old crew without worrying about whether they look the right age.

Yeah, Firefly:TNG sounds good. A different ship/crew, and the reapers down the road now that people know what they are and so on. Crossing paths with Serenity, or it's former members here and there.

Someone like Jayne could still be a merc for hire on this new ship, since he just finished a 5-year series, maybe he could carry this one.

OMG KICKSTARTER THIS!

Whilst we're all reminiscing about what we do have Firefly-wise, I would like to remind folks who may not have heard about it before of the novella "My Kind of Freedom". I've not read Steven Brust's other works, but I like what he did with the novella. It's also available free, as in beer, so if you haven't read it before you should go get it. I felt like he did a great job capturing the essence of the characters.

I wouldn't mind seeing an animated series with the original characters if that were easier to pull off or work around the original cast's current projects. If you got an animator skilled enough to understand the nuances of each of the cast members' quirks, with the original writers and voices for the dialogue, that could turn out pretty good.

I've been meaning to read that, because Steven Brust's Vlad books are the bomb-digging and one of the few ongoing series I am always eagerly awaiting.

I also have much love for Steven Brust.

Bomb-digging? DAMN YOU, AUTO-CORRECT!!!!!!!!!

That's what all the cool kids are saying these days.

Wiener-bomb-digging.

I've greatly enjoyed all but two of his Vlad novels.

I could get behind a Firefly Universe show.

Firefly/Serenity is pretty much done. He could continue the narrative, but it has been too long and not enough people know the universe and characters to warrant an expensive series or film.

Now a Buffy movie is another story. That is where I am going to pin my hopes. I think it is a real possibility. I just hope if it does come to fruition that they stick with the original cast and tell a more grown-up story.

Of course I require a lesbian scene between Buffy and Willow.

But the Buffy/Angel comics are handling that, and doing quite well.

That would be the source material. They are published by Dark Horse as well, so Marvel, at least, already owns a piece of Buffy and many of the TV series writers have contributed.

Buffy comic story + Joss Whedon writer + Joss Whedon director + Lisa Lasek editor + Marvel/Disney money = PFA (Pure. f*cking. Awesome.)

Except it would still be Buffy.

*ducks & runs*

Just think of it as the "Earth That Was."

You know the primary reason I ever click on this thread is to read Marsman's initial post. It and DS's response still make me laugh to this day.

Which also points out that this thread is close to six and a half years old.

It should be in first grade!

That's pretty crazy in itself...

Hopefully the Buffy fans have saved it a seat.

Marvel owns Dark Horse now?

I picked this up on Teefury last week. It arrived today, so I know what I'm wearing tomorrow to work.

So far as I can find, they're still self-owned (by creator Mike Richardson).
