What am I, chopped liver? (not until I can get in the game - hah!)

I guess I can catch up on Game of Thrones while waiting Thank you internet.

I do think Blizzard is one of the few companies that fans will (begrudgingly) let get away with always-on-DRM.

cmon servers!! My monk Ordunos literally only got to login for 10 seconds this morning! He needs to kick some butt!

UGGGH I HATE YOU BLIZZARD!

the boredom/anxiety made me click on spoilers on some forum..

what's been seen in the first 15 sec of the video cannot be unseen.

guhghghhh i hate myself, i m so dumb.

I was in a SC2 stream chat last night and the first thing i read was someone listing all the major plot points of D3.

Steam invites sent to all the people who requested on this page (I think).

I'm home from work, why do you betray me you evil evil game!

Thanks Tuffalo!

Now to play D3 - looks like servers still down

My game while D3 is down: keeping up with this thread. And reading all of the internet. Think D3 will be back up when I'm done?

I feel kinda angry at myself at not jumping at the NewEgg deal a couple months back.

"Noo." I said. "I don't want to pay for express shipping or wait 2-3 days!" I said. "I want to jump into the game, right when the bell tolls 12."

At least I didn't take the day off. That would of been terrible.

Gonna go chip away Xenoblade tonight I guess.

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!

My relative did the pre-order thing for my B-day:

1. Set the delivery address to their place (and is never home during the day)
2. Checked Amazon (or UPS or whatever) says "Expected delivery date of May 25"!!!!!!!!!!!eleventyone!!!

Also, has Blizzard not heard of outsourcing to cloud companies on a pay-as-you-go basis?

I'm not a software guy, but I am a datacenter guy for a cloud company, and I'm pretty certain that there is no way on earth we could have handled the capacity spike this would have created. Unless I'm vastly overestimating the resources that they would want to offload, Blizzard would be stuck with Amazon and maybe Rackspace, unless they wanted to divide it up between companies.

I don't know if even Amazon would have enough spare capacity for this sort of thing, and it's entirely possible that it's things like the load balancers that are freaking out.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have a private cloud to shift from WoW to D3 to SC2 for demand spikes on each one. At least, that's how I'd do it, but it still wouldn't be enough for this.

As IT support I have conflicting feelings about Blizzard right now. I'm mad that they screwed this up and at the same time I know exactly what they're feeling right now trying to make this work.

I have no sympathy for Blizzard over this, because they should have known. Why should they have known? Because this exact same thing happened when they launched WoW, and then again when they launched Burning Crusade. So they have had 2 separate product launches that should have taught them the lesson of having more ability to handle traffic than they anticipate, and they still don't get it right.

One time can be chocked up to growing pains. Two times is starting to look a bit fishy. Three times is complete ineptitude. There's no reason Diablo 3 should have had login issues at all.

I got error code BLZPTS00007 when trying to install. I can't get past Checking for Updates when trying to install. Normal with the servers down?

I'm in!

In!!!

The problem with that is that one "I'm in!" and it all goes away.

What really annoys me about this fiasco is that Blizzard will use it as an excuse for some outrageous humblebragging. "We knew people were excited, but we honestly had no idea of the incredible volume of people just waiting to partake of our always-on DRM. The hordes of impotent gamers dying to get down on their knees in abject worship of Blizzard's profound greatness surprised even us - a remarkable feet given our omniscience."

Sure, but that says more about us as consumers of games than anything else. However, that's an issue that has been discussed elsewhere before, so I won't bring it up here.

Can't wait to get home and install it, now that things appear to be better. I really liked Wizard in the open weekend, but I may go Demon Hunter first since I'll be playing with friends and I hear she's more fun with a group.

That's the thing for me, I think the takeaway will be that they (and others) can sell always-on DRM to zillions of people, rather than that they couldn't take the demand. Even if it's temporary, they couldn't provide the service/product they were selling.

Blizzard is the game company we deserve, not the one we need.

Steam community invite for me, please?

http://steamcommunity.com/id/sithload

First game I've bought on launch day in a long, long time. And I haven't spoiled much of anything for myself so far - very little reading online, only watched a couple videos. I did play the beta, but since there weren't any cut scenes, I'm pretty excited to dig in and play.

I've never played multiplayer Diablo before. Anything I should know?

Dont jump in too quickly, play solo for awhile get a feel for everything. Coop often feels very fast so play through the area at your own pace first (or second).

You know, when playing in groups it was so easy to jump into a game and it was such mindless fun that the thought of which class had better group skills never crossed my mind.

Body parts, goop, blood and bits just fly everywhere in 4 player games.

In like flynn
